    Thank you for this video! I was able to rebuild my 2 barrel Holley carb in about 3 hours based on the clear and concise video - would not have been able to do this without it! I spent about 2 of the 3 hours scraping old crusty gaskets vs. replacing parts. Thanks again for this clear, concise, informative video! Dave Raicevich

    I did mine about 3 yrs ago. I was curious about the settings. So I check the float level and such before I removed them....just to make sure they were in range....after I did this the boat would run for a while then die....... it was scting like it was running out of gas....DROVE me CRAZY, then I discovered I needed to replace the water fuel separator.....amazing at how we over look thinks like that... Thanks for the post. GREAT JOB!!!

    At 6:03, what is the red valve thing called? My carb kit didn't come with one and the original was loose in the diaphram, trying to find how to request that - will likely need to get another kit I bet. I think the audio quality is fine, and orientation works fine on a phone if you hold it upright. Thanks for the video!!

      I believe it's a relief "valve" of some kind. Good luck finding it.

    When the float bowl is normal way up(accelerator pump at the bottom), where should the float sit? Thanks, very helpful video..

    • @ShadetreeMechanic
      @ShadetreeMechanic  Рік тому

      I'm not 100% certain what you mean, but the float should be resting on an angle with no fuel. Once the fuel fills up it floats and prevents excess fuel into the carb. Give me some more info and I'll try and help.

    Why take the electric choke off at all? Just curious. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my carb. I have to wait for the bigger accelerator pump diaphragm and the umbrella valve to arrive, as they weren't in the kit I ordered.
    Oh, and you got lucky. Mine has never been touched before, so it still had the OEM Volvo gaskets. Volvo glued the gaskets to the carb and I had to use a Dremel and a wire brush to remove the gasket and residue. Took hours.

    I'm also wondering about the accelerator pump. Looks like you took out a 50cc & replaced it with a 30cc. Did it run after rebuild or have a stutter on take off? Also wondering if the extra travel from the 50cc will tear the 30cc diaphragm apart after awhile or does it all adjust out in the adjustment?

    • @ShadetreeMechanic
      @ShadetreeMechanic  3 роки тому

      Interesting, I haven't noticed anything different. I'll have to pull it apart to take a look at it.

      That's exactly what I noticed too! That kit has the 30cc pump and your old carb has a 50cc pump

      @@ShadetreeMechanic YEAH ,There are two interacting levers on the throttle shaft ,on the choke side of the carb. there is a spring in the middle of them. Mine was broken and I was able to find a replacement but I don't know how everything goes back together since Murphy helped me take them off and now he won't tell me how they work the choke high idle cam assy...I thought I had them on correctly, but now the spring holds the adjuster screw up off of the cam and it causes the idle to fluctuate and the rpms to run at 2k. @@ShadetreeMechanic Thanks for the reply. For the idler needles, i just screwed them all the way in and backed them out 1.5 turns as a starting place. When i removed them, i had 7 and 8 turns, respectively, but upon re-installation, they bottomed out after several turns. My friends kit didn't have "cork" gaskets for the idler needles which makes me a little nervous. Also, the gasket on the top didn't seem to fit correctly either. I really appreciate your time making this video. It helped a tremendous amount. This is exactly what my friend has and there are so many variants of this style of carburetor it can be a challenge to get the correct rebuild kit.

    Can you tell me what hooks to the brass fitting (vacuum????) on the electric choke portion. I bought a used boat and nothing was hooked to it but it is pulling vacuum when running?

    • @ShadetreeMechanic

      So forgive me, but I have no idea what the purpose of that brass fitting does.
