In ALL of television news, even at the network level, Bonds is 100-percent right on (past the 1:50 mark) If reporters (network AND affiliate) lose touch with people, they miss some of the best news in town (and across America).
we'll i'm not ashammed of being from detroit i live in alabama now but it ain't a day that i don't long to be back there i been back to visit but not as much as i would of like too.
@@aliciaboudreaux7262 Yep. Essentially every US city was a crime ridden disaster coming out of the late 1970s and into the early 80s, a cycle we look poised to repeat.

Such blatant propaganda… that worked! Forty years later I still occasionally sing this song in the shower. There’s no town like Motown…. And then we got the Hip Hop Mayor and it only got worse.
I remember the shock when people first saw Bill Bonds in these spots sitting down at the diner table with the late then-mayor Coleman Young (they had a famous feud going). Here's another Channel 7 commercial that should've been included: "Bonds, Kelly, Ackerman, Turner - Now THAT'S a Team."
I clearly remember when this was playing on Channel 7. Miss Bill Bonds.I knew his daughter. How unthinkable her tragedy was. The Action News team was where its at at our house. Robbie Timmons, Diana Lewis, Jerry Hodak. Remember : KELLY & COMPANY & COUnT SCARRY? Left Michigan in 2002 due to new jobs elsewhere. We desperately miss Detroit/Metro.
@kgoundan Bill's commentaries were also spot on; kind of like Keith Olbermann's today! I miss those years, growing up in and around Detroit. It use to be a glorious city with a lot to offer. It now seems like a bombed out third world nation. Very sad.
Rest in Peace, Billy Bonds: Will always be sorry that Coleman A. Young never accepted your challenge to go one on one. No doubt you would have whupped him. I know you'll be telling St. Peter that you were from Detroit:
You really can't appreciate this unless you have lived here. Bill Bonds is 80 years old now.We were a hell of a town before it was sold off to China for a buck 2 85: Bill Murray was a Bill Bonds character. To Plopsmom, 5 million people in this area are not gone!
I've been living in the University Distict of Detroit since 1971. Won't leave. Detroit gets a very bad rap and I realize the latest "happenings"in the news don't help. The problem is the media keeps regurgitating bad stuff and not reporting this good things and good people in Detroit. There has NEVER been a movie made in Indian Village, University District or Palmer Woods, only some burned out area of the city which probably hasn't been populated in 50 years.
as someone who still lives in Detroit... uh... you wouldn't want to see Belle Isle now... it's horrible.... I love my city, but Belle Isle is a disaster...
I am so ashamed of being from Detroit, I don't dare tell any one I am, I was born there. I usually will not even say I am from Michigan, if I do. I am always from "Northern Michigan"
I love the bits with Bill Bonds and Coleman Young fighting over the Coney Dogs! Classic, thank you!
Now it’s “Stand up and tell them you left Detroit!”
I have spent almost 18 years in the Detroit Metropolitan area, running two businesses and raising two wonderful kids.thanks Michigan and Detroit.
Priceless
Growing up in Detroit, Bill Bonds and the rest of the Channel 7 team made news interesting to watch.
Bill Bonds is a legend.
Lights went out in early 80’s

Great journalist from Detroit who told it like it was. He is missed...
I've been looking for this commercial for a very long time. Thank you so much for posting it up!

Hope you’ve come back since
With all the problems Detroit has had recently, they need to do an updated version of this campaign.
agreed!
They really used the music from a Denver tv station campaign called "Colorado Style"
rockvilleraven Check out KTRK-TV's 1985 "Houston's Great" video.

Stand up and texted them you're from Detroit! This was a great ad campaign.

That's the robust, live, energetic Detroit I remember.
"the world is Detroit, Detroit's the world"... I'm so tired of hearing how Bill Bonds drinks... he's a Detroit LEGEND...
How would you feel if you had to cover the decline of one of America’s great cities while still saying things are going to get better?

I miss him! He had his issues, but he kept it real!

He's STILL the man no matter what! He was very outspoken.

HE has a William Shatner cadence
He still does 'em on the radio, but after all his alcohol problems, he hasn't been on-camera much lately. Sonny Eliot still does a lot of radio, too.

I bet you though it was 99% designed and engineered there, and the people who help launched the vehicle wherever it was built came from there.
