An insane amount of work must have gone into this.
@Salaminized They were made in the 60s dude, and your point is?
@Salaminized Are you denying that it's hard to make something new that looks just like the original on a possibly lower budget?
Yeah - apparently Louis CK worked on it, too. Back when his work was allowed on tv.
@@rustinstardust2094 Also, Stephen Colbert! If you look closely at the credits, apparently he was one of the writers. I guess before he got all famous on the Daily Show. How cool is that!
Ikr!
I miss these TV Funhouse segments. They were so clever and well animated! This one appears to be actual stop motion. It must have taken them at least half a year to put this together!
This aired just three months after 9-11. Remarkable, isn't it?
They tended to be good, but there weren’t always the best. The animated cartoon they did on Michael Jackson’s aged poorly, looks cheap and isn’t funny. I’m willing to say that as a fan of SNL.
Why did they stop?
@@Redjoekido Contract Robert Smigel had with the show ended.
NBC canned Smigel and never asked him back.
I still miss the TV Funhouse series. Every episode was golden.
In 2019 I bought the entire series. It didn't have stuff like this though.
Imagine if they tried to air the ambiguously gay duo today! Oh lord the outcry 😂
They gotta bring it back
I miss it too!!
Ikr same! This is honestly be the perfect time to bring TV funhouse back
Me too, the tmnt one was hilarious.
Whoever did the Burl Ives voice impersonation did a pretty darn good job. That's a tough voice to do.
He doesn’t sound anything like the real Ives.
The Tom Brokaw was pretty good too
@@hankkingsley9300that was definitely Chris Parnell.
I think it sounds like Norm McDonald.
The santa sounds like joel goddard from conans late night days
Dear Sam the Snowman: You will be looking back at 2001 with fond nostalgia. Sincerely, 2020.
OMG ... I never would have believed it, but you are exactly right.
We are now losing nearly a 9/11 worth every day, and it will get substantially worse.
We lose more to trauma, diabetes, cancer, & other things. Like we did before...
@@matthewsandifer2673 diabetes is a bitch especially when you lost everything during covid and can’t afford insulin I will probably die from that
@@Horrorblonde I sincerely hope it gets better for you.
Boy do I miss TV Funhouse. These segments were not only funny, they were very well done! This really does look authentic.
“It’s not about you dooshbag”
Omg I’m dying 😂
Should be on bumper stickers.
@@emsleywyatt3400 Yes, and spelled correctly ("douchebag").
Dude nailed burl Ives voice
@Robert Lee, Countertenor this was released in 01 and Norm left SNL in 99.
@Robert Lee, Countertenor The voices are listed in the end credits and Norm isn't on the list.
@William Sharpton The Ohio Fan 2011 I have no idea.
AI generated.
Best line is Santa telling the narrator, "It's not about you, douchebag." Burl Ives (the real narrator) must be rolling in his grave... from laughter over this one. 🤣
Well said 🤣
That line was definitely written by Louis CK
Fun Fact: Lorne Michaels actually had full ownership of the original Rankin-Bass Rudolph special for nearly a decade.
oh well that explains why there were a couple of Rankin and Bass spoofs in tv funhouse
"It's not about you, douchebag" lives rent free in my head.
I miss when SNL did animation. :(
Yeah, they should bring Robert back, now that Digitial Shorts is gone.
That's because you only understand cartoons dummy. Mr Bill suqed btw. Try not to write irrelevant comments. Ha ha ha! MAGA!
I miss when SNL did comedy.
oprah/stedman one is still the best
I miss when SNL didn't do the "self-important grandstanding" they mocked in this video.
Santa's admonishment to celebrities to stop their grandstanding and making everything about themselves was well said !!!
Especially the Dick in Bush "celebrities" making it all about the Bone in Skull Club. Cipro providers were murdered for protecting U.S. and Uncle Sam the Snowman, from the disease of Anthrax, like Vaccine providers were murdered ...for protecting America from the disease of Corona. The Bone in Skull Club weaponized diseases, entering the war and exiting it. Healers were defeating their purpose. They were killed for tumblers full of scotch. Swallowers. They can't remember a freaking thing. Omnispreaders talk sick. Let them eat "yellow cake". 22 Vets a day are dead for it still.
Still true to this day.
@@MrWrestlingman85 Yep, everyone just ended up completely ignoring that admonishment!
RIP Jerry Stiller.

@@andrewpytko4773 you couldn’t hit water if you fell out of a boat.
They need to do a part II for 2020.
They should have done it, you mean. But it would probably have been too depressing.
"Still in Afghanistan"
Wasn't that an understatement at that time.
It was
Trump said he beat them....but,..but,....but,....
@James Brice Still fighting. Trump's a liar.
@James Brice Still in Afghanistan Jimmy.
@James Brice Jimmy, you're funny. Still there buddy.
I still love that skit. It's basically "Don't Look Up" in under 6 minutes.
Given that Sam the Snowman has been narrating since the 60's, it's no wonder he's sick of it all!
Robert Smigel is a genius. The unsung comic of Hollywood.
Liam Redmond Ace & Gary LOL so politically incorrect
He's not "unsung" as you say. This guy made his bones and there are many, even today, who sing this man's praises.

As Mr. Bill used to say, "Oh, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!.........."
17 damn years later.
We're close to total defeat so it should be over soon, right? Spoiler: It won't be.
Tbqh we should have seen that coming
@@Plisken65 He's only doing it because we're on the verge of total defeat and he doesn't want that embarrassment. And he's getting out of Syria because he got bamboozled by Erdogan.
Remember watching this live and really remembering this was the first time we had a laugh with the circumstances of 9/11. It was cathartic, but mostly funny. Smigel's cartoons were what I looked forward to most during that time.
The way he says "This country's under siege!" always cracks me up.
"It's not about you, douchebag!" LOL!
I always loved this-it was spot on when I first saw it early 20 years ago during the original broadcast, and it remains very strong today. I was able to pause it and read the credits, finally: co written by Louis CK and Stephen Colbert! Very cool.
No wonder it's so good!
The fact that this TV Funhouse was in last night's SNL Vintage episode makes me feel like they really chose it on purpose.
20th anniversary of its debut . . . plus its absolutely brilliant.
wow Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel and Louis CK co-wrote this
It cannot be easy to be funny...December 2001...now, someone else like this quick! I made it 911 likes!
Whaaaatt??!😱
With voices by Smigel, Chris Parnell, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler
The Santa is ?
And now the "self-important grandstanding" mocked in this video is all Stephen Colbert does.

D#%! is a bad word.
Jennifer Hupp No it ain’t
Jennifer Hupp ~ nah
The claymation Geraldo Rivera, worth the price of admission.
Ther douchebag reference would fit that.
People who weren't brought up on the original will never get how brilliant this is.
SNL is just a shadow of itself as well.
Some of this looks identical to the original Frosty short! I almost thought they were using old clips of that!
No one who wrote this realized the original Rudolph special aired in the middle of the Vietnam war?
Wow you showed them
Well, the 'Nam didn't start with 3,000 American citizens dying in an attack. I think this was a reaction to the amount of drama people were experiencing at the time in New York after the attacks.
@@The_Presitator
Exactly, also 1964 wasn't by any stretch of the imagination "the middle of the Vietnam War", the fact of the matter is in 1964 most Americans didn't know where Vietnam was, regular troops hadn't been sent there yet. The battle of Ia Drang Valley, which is considered to be the beginning of involvement by regular US troops, was almost a year away at that point.
@James Brice the first American (combat) fatalities in Vietnam were MAJ Dale Buis & MSG Chester Ovnand on July 8, 1959.
Learn some fucking history.
@Charles Comstock I think the MORAL here is that, if the USSA has been at WAR for almost every year of its nearly 300-year existence... SOMETHING IS VERY VERY WRONG.
(We're currently in 7 wars, and the Afghanistan Papers revealed we liberals were FLAWLESSLY correct: the Pentagon LIED 100% re Afghanistan, top to bottom, and stole trillions from us, murdered 2300 American soldiers, and maimed another 20,000! And that's just THAT war!!)
UNTIL WE START JAILING WAR CRIMINALS, war will never end for Amerikkka.

This sketch must have taken so much work, god damn
Well, at least they put the work into it.
It is insane how well they did this.
@@RansomeStoddard
Yep, they probably started working on it in July.
Did you see a few years back where someone showed up on Antiques Roadshow with the actual Rudolph figure from the show? That was pretty cool even though the guy who had it said he and his sister lost the original red nose when they were playing with it one Christmas when they were kids.
@@dukecraig2402 I bet it's still worth a ton today.
@@RansomeStoddard
I can't remember what it was valued at, I just remember it being neat as hell. If I remember the story correctly his dad was one of the production team or something like that and brought it home after the show was filmed.
I can imagine when they did this in 2001, they probably figured it would take a couple decades for the world to get back to normal and have this lose its relevancy. Well, 2020 gets the last laugh ...
The animation is so damn cute
It really *is* adorable. It's a classic. Edit: *Some of it* is actually scenes from the 1964 Christmas stop motion animated television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Rankin/Bass. That company made a bunch of very charming stop motion Christmas specials in that 60s and 70s time period: The Year Without a Santa Claus, The Little Drummer Boy, and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (which gave us some entertaining characters like Heat Miser and Snow Miser). Plus, an equally sweet traditional animation in 1969 of Frosty the Snowman. You may have seen them all, but if not, if you can stream any, they're all super cute.
It’s Rankin Bass, what did you expect?
Always loved the dog taking Lorne's show and Lorne is fighting with the dog over it.
"Come back here with my Schooowoo!"
I thought that was a US President. I never knew that it was Michaels!
Tom Brokaw impersonator was spot on!
I remembered watching this as a 13-year-old. Me and my older brother and sister were laughing our asses off, it also didn’t hurt that we also had a gamecube and smash bros. melee, waiting in the closet for Christmas waiting for us.
Ahhhhh good memories
Would have been a good year to see what the snowman thought about 2020
A snowman sliding through snow? Isn't that like a man sliding through flesh? It's confusing.
David conway~...er..not really...
They always do that. They don't have feet. Maybe you are confused because of Frosty.
It’s like a man sliding through snow.
Like a poo through the dung heap! Like a chocolate through the cheese! Like a bull through the China shop! All this and more, in the new one by Clive Barker.
A man sliding through flesh is the reason we' are all here today.
Sadly, Sam T. Snowman died from COVID-19. He won't be narrating anymore.
I thought it was global warming that did him in.
@@robgronotte1 That makes more sense. Plus, MADtv did a sketch were Al Gore told Frosty that global warming will kill him.
Did he have diabetes or something?
