I don't want to be mean or toxic, but I'm getting super tired of all those "English teaching experts" who are spreading wrong info. I realised I was also following this girl but I'm going to unfollow her asap. I'm personally a non-native teacher of English but I trusted her for some reason and was trying to improve my own vocabulary by watching her videos. Thanks A LOT for making such reviews, we need more of those

Can't agree more. We, non-natives, try to teach our students the best English we can while the so-called "experts" seem not to care about their audience at all. From now on I won't follow any non-native bloggers teaching us English

what baffles me is how a teacher of English - whether a native speaker or otherwise, but a teacher nonetheless - cannot recognize when a speaker posing as an ESL teacher is A not a native speaker B not a teacher

@@kimpanther it was clear that she is not a native+she doesn’t say she is and her bio on instagram states that. But the number of her followers and the frequency of her videos on my feed somehow made me believe she could teach people something. I shouldn’t have been so naive😁

@@catc870The issue is NOT being a native or a non-native English speaker.
Native speakers make lots of mistakes too but those mistakes are acceptable because they speak the language, many of them do NOT even know they make mistakes. I have tried to explain but some of them won’t even accept the right answer. 😂

I am a non-native teacher of English and Spanish as second languages. I've worked with several well-known institutes and have some certifications. I started to work as a teacher 30 years ago and I have taken German and French courses.
I just want to thank you for these videos. I do agree with you. I am very good at English grammar but I have an accent and can mispronounce words sometimes, so I focus on preparing my students for international tests, job interviews and make sure I'm using my knowledge and experience in class, and I compensate my weaknesses with videos and readings created by native speakers. In Spanish, the situation is the opposite. I am a native speaker but I find it difficult to explain grammar in this language, so I focus on pronunciation, vocabulary and speaking skills.
If we know our limitations and our strengths, we can be better and more honest professionals.
    Thanks 🙏

I must disagree... at least, to a certain point. If we apply this logic: the teacher makes a pronunciation mistake once, and the student unconscious gets it and this person produces the mistake when speaking. That'd mean that the student would get all the terms which are pronounced in the right way and starts producing them right away. This is science fiction.
A different situation is when the teacher's pronunciation is pretty bad and pronunciation mistakes are everywhere. This is something that many native speakers keep on repeating as if we were living in the pre Internet era.
      I'm sorry but I don't buy it.
      Cheers!

Hey, Evelyn, thank you for your video, I really appreciate your putting time and effort into making learners aware of the mistakes made by the content creators who shouldn't be teaching English. I have nothing against non-native teachers but I really think that it got to the point where their lack of knowledge, paired with unprofessional conduct when confronted about the mistakes does more harm than good. It's widespread on YT and now, apparently, on Instagram. What worries me is the fact that none of those "teachers" are held accountable for presenting incorrect pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. I feel for all the learners who, in good faith, rely on those videos unaware that they are being mislead

I teach English as a second language, and while this content can indeed be less than ideal I think it's worth mentioning that there are mistakes and "mistakes". Yes, you wouldn't write "I would prefer doing x over y" in an essay but I've heard countless natives use it like that. It happens. "Go to Cinema" on the other hand is a mistake that mostly non-natives, especially those whose native languages lack articles, make, and it just sounds wrong.

Either because we were taught incorrectly or because of our native language interference. Do you realize what it means that a young Yemeni man who hates pedantisms, talking about them, and hearing them stands transfixed by looking at you, smiling, as you talk about the mistakes that pretenders of being such native or acknowledge speakers ?
Do you realize how much he would love to be in the shoes of those idiots who show up wearing a headband or a tie to talk to you live just for the sake of telling you just how beautiful you look?
I will tell you then that there is magic in you that makes bad news pleasant.
It is the contradictions that make the mute speak!
I will tell you about your eyes and how they carry war and peace, death and life.
    Dear Evelyn:
Your blonde features are so beautiful.
But the color “black” on you is very, very beautiful.
Your mole in the middle of your left upper arm proves that.
Leave no shadow of a doubt that it is unjust for this color to be used in condolences.
You do not need evidence, eyewitnesses, or reporters to prove the truth of what you say.
Appear in a breaking news story in which you say that Jerusalem has been liberated, Sudan has become safe, Syria has become prosperous, and the wars in Yemen have stopped.
Talk about Biden and that he submitted his resignation, and that Arab governments boycotted America and Iran..
Our former ruler “Affash” is still alive, and our current president “Abd Rabba” is seven months pregnant!
Say those things and I'll believe them.
Only with you is all shows believable, and all tragedies that pass on your lips are beautiful.

Is it ok to say "...and a wine"? Does it mean one bottle of wine ? is it not better to say "some wine?"

Hi, teacher. I saw this video by a YT English tutor in which she said 'They didn't appreciate how great I am.' Shouldn't it be 'how great I was?' If I'm not mistaken although we use the past tense in this case, it is still true today. For example, 'I visited the Buckingham palace. It was really majestic'. It is more of an experience or an opinion.Correct me if I'm wrong.

I came across a lot of her content on instagram. I had noticed a lot of misleading wrong information but I recently started posting under Tetiana’s content about her mistakes because there are like thousands of them. And after a while she literally blocked me. I mean it’s one thing to act like an expert and give false information but what is with not owning up to the mistake and not correcting it? There are like literally millions of people who watch those misleading videos

I find this so embarassing...how can she be so confident and kind of narcissistic while she makes so many mistakes? Jesus... anyway, thank you for all the explanations and for dedicating your energy and time for this :)
