The better I get at guitar the more I realize how insanely good SRV was
May fav guitar player since I was 14, and I am 37 and yes I do love Malmsteen but tbh SRV's nuances are way more trickier then 99% of all other guitar players. Just even his bending he is a true master
@@stallionstudiosполный контроль , глушение , точность , скорость где это необходимо , супер крутой гитарист !!!
I actually broke a string practicing SRV style licks last week. I was proud of myself. 😃
I hope you kept playing and switched out guitars mid solo!
@@aiden4884 No, you just keep playing, no need to switch guitars.
72dodge340 nah i think Lysander was referencing SRV’s ua-cam.com/video/JIFdMbhCa94/v-deo.html
I did the same, then bought a new pack and went from 10s to 11s.
I felt the same way the day I broke an A string!
Stevie’s aggression while playing the guitar is unmatched
Sebastian Sanchez Stevie is the GOAT, but I’d have to say I think Todd Jones and Max Cavalera are probably just a TINY bit more aggressive lol. Aggression probably isn’t the right word.
his tone is something i still want to reproduce, cant play a damn thing but some blues but with that tone it doesnt matter lol
Jeff Beck's comes pretty close
@@jakeybball Shit dude, if you are gonna through out a name like Cavalera you better mention Dimebag and Mustaine. SRV ain't the GOAT, but damn, I wish he was still making music.....
Look up Philip Sayce
Habit 1: Sweating like he just ran a marathon.
drugs are a hell of a drug
@@Gabe-1997 cocaine is one hell of a crack
Alright. Got that one. What's next?
@@HEATHENYT lmao
His fingers did.
Palm mutes, 13 gauge strings, Jack Daniels, cocaine....SRV.
TheMidNiteLiteCompany Houston You forgot god- like guitar skills.
SRV actually seldom ever did any traditional palm muting techniques at all in my experience. Muting was done with his left hand and beating the fuck out of the strings with his right hand. Beating em like they owed him money.
Dave Matney it doesnt matter how they do it if he beats the strings or plays them gentle but thats wat he does and he knows how to do it good 🤷♀️
You do know he played even better when he got clean and sober
@@dalton7145 Yeah after he became awesome from smoking dope. The best guitar payers smoked dope. Fact.
The only habit Stevie Ray had, was he made damn good Texas blues..
yes
greatest of all time. Texas bby
also alcoholism
SRV got clean, man. People often die after reforming, though. Stan Getz, Art Pepper, so on... Maybe that's why they were here, to get clean. I'm glad I was born into a nation that had such great music.
Eli Ramsay.... Your an idiot for that comment!
I mean... and all the things this guy said in the video
This is the first time I've seen anyone explain the 'rhythm and lead' way of playing exemplified by Hendrix and SRV. I saw Hendrix 3 times live and SRV many times. It was like watching one person and hearing two. That rhythm action, or 'habit', is the key to everything. A really excellent guitar tutor once said to me 'whatever you're doing, don't stop playing, keep the rhythm going'. Good stuff.
Agreed. This young man teaching this old man is humbling. Thanx for the great video.
Chet Atkins was good at that too.
Arpeggios- learn them, they're your friend. But- before you can arpeggiate a chord- you have to know the chord- that was something Hendrix and SRV both understood very well. My friends made fun of me while I was in high school because I was learning old major blues style rhythm- bar chords and triads. But- the reason I was doing that was because I understood that knowing those chords meant I could eventually arpeggiate them and play in the style of Jimi and Stevie. I also emulated guys like Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins- finger picking. I got really good at it while I was younger and it helped me tremendously playing lead when I got older.
You’re missing the open string playing in Stevie’s Texas shuffle, his biggest habit
Absolutely - that was one of the least SRV like renditions of pride and joy I’ve heard
Andrew Coe lol
@@andocobo with you on that, I had to pipe in because it wasn't even close, passing on his meager "knowledge" to unsuspecting wana be's. I mean if you are going to do a video lesson do it right or don't do it.
And the circle strumming technique.
Where’s the treble strings
Oh this is easy....
1. Practice
2. Practice
3. Practice
4. Practice
5. Perform
6. Practice
And I am not talking about just playing. I mean HARD WORK at improving your weaknesses.
Yesss I agree!!!!🤘👍👍☯️🎸☮️
It seems like once all that hard work and practice is in it doesn't take as much to keep in shape and keep your lichtsinn Good standing.
Lol practice all you want, If you don't have the talent he has, you won't play on his level... That's the harsh reality. People practice all their life but won't be as good of a musician as stevie was in his teens lol
@@goodtogo2876 it goes back to practice, yes some musicians are just different...but stevie never went without a guitar, he was constantly playing one. he couldnt just magically play it he practiced day in and day out.
@@Bidwellz9 of course! i would never claim that talented people wouldnt need to practice their ass off. All im saying is that your reach a much higher stage much much earlier when you have a talent. And i can see that first hand, as i have a talent for drawing.
SRV is the true master of displaying soul through a guitar like no other. No one comes close.
Looool hendrix would laugh
id argue david gilmour
@@dvr1337 Frusciante would cry
Rory Gallagher
Jimi Hendrix
Albert King
B.B. King
And more
I absolutely love how you emphasized that incorporating techniques in your own playing is more important than trying to copy a guitarist note-for-note
You forgot one of the most important SRV habits: That Stank Face!!!
Eric Beaty Creations and the pimp hat!
and flying with helicopters
@@GammaFZ well look whos jealous cause he can never play like srv
people who don't know much about SRV call thatthe stank face. It's the Vaughan face
Habits of BB King maybe?
BrynP vibrato
God fearing clean and sober start there.
Not Applicable shooo fly
Ain't but 1 person who can stop em cold with 1 note. Worthwhile to spend the rest of your life (& death) studying his vibrato
Only sing when u stop playing
The habits of Stevie Ray Vaughan was to play Rhythm and Lead at the same time perfect
Instructions unclear. Arrested for drunk driving and cocaine possession.
Bwahahahaha🤣🤣

Do a habits of Jimmy page or Eric Clapton
Michael Tsi yes please!
YES
Oh habits of Eric Clapton is easy, steal your best friends wife and make a career of playing dull versions of people you hang with. 1 out of every 86 songs will be famous.
Michael symber lol
Michael Tsi yes please. Saw them both in concert and they were awesome! Jimmy Page is the greatest ever! Zeppelin best band ever!
Habits of Gary Moore. This is a great idea man.
I agree could play anything
You forgot playing the guitar behind your back while chewing gum with a broken string😂
First of all why youtube didn't recommend me this video
Second one you deserve an award for this video
I absolutely love this dude. I've been trying to figure out Stevie's percussion picking but he breaks it down to an understandable level. Thanks bruv SRV for life
habits of Mark knopfler plzz.. finger picking style!!
Edgar Mendonca yessssssss
Yes Please!
Edgar Mendonca There's a dude who done a sultan's of swing cover and he has a video teaching you how to do the cover and in it he shows you knopfler habits/licks. his name's Josh turner I think
Edgar Mendonca omgggg yesss mark knopflerrrrr
Edgar Mendonca yessss
When I was living abroad . My friend came to me and told me a guy in the bar down the street played bass for SRV in Paul Ray and The Cobras . We went down the street and met Miles Alex Napier . Alex stuck around town for about a year . We would sit around drink and smoke and he would tell us stories about growing up with the Vaughn brothers in Oak Cliff Dallas . RIP Alex and SRV
Even once Stevie had become successful the one habit that got him there was practice and when he wasn’t performing he was practicing. Brother Jimmie said that Stevie was always playing. If he was not sleeping or showering or eating he had a guitar in his hands. Practice makes perfect!
Habits of Mark Knopfler, pretty please!
ye
YES!
Habits of John Mayer and Buddy Guy!
Kaito Bellamy buddy Guy is underknown
i dont think so
agreed.
Buddy Guy: Pull the bend, let it sustain for 2 years while smiling 32 teeth.
Barış Karasakız LMAOO love buddy's smile though he just a happy dude
At 9:45 when he says "I'm not going for tone or note for note because I can't do it- nobody can" is the truth
You know, I wasn’t really into this channel until I started studying music on college and can actually understand what you teach, damn Taylor you have some great knowledge, thank you for sharing.
habits of john frusciante
Reggie Smithers that would be amazing
Daniel Mayfield i know right
pls
Reggie Smithers do drugs
Reggie Smithers yes plz
what a beautiful strat
...and he knows how to play it too! Personally the Strat has always been my go-to electric guitar. I've had a 1998 American Standard in Fiesta Red (a hard-tail) since 2002. I still play it all the time and I could never sell it.
by the way i am gibson fan
I had a brief Strat love when I was a big fan of Deep Purple in the early 80s. I had an awesome copy back then, with natural finish. I have an Ibanez Strat style with 2 humbuckers now. That's about as close as a I get to a Strat these days. I don't like the thin single-coil sound, but really like the maple neck
Richard Nicholson I can definitely understand that point of view. Personally I love the sound of single coils, but it's hard to beat the versatility of humbuckers; they're great for all types of music. That's why I always keep a Gibson in my stable. That's also why Fender makes HH strats for humbucker fans =)

Make sure to check out Guitar Super System (bit.ly/G1SS1p) for a full breakdown of the magical chords known as triads. Also, comment and let me know which guitarist I should break down the habits of next!
Habits of Jerry Garcia

Duuude, Slash!! :) Great vids!!!
You gotta do habits of John Petrucci.
Habits of David Gilmour! =)

Dylan Malakovski lol
Dylan Malakovski yes exactly

Zeke Morgan w
burgerofwar shred, as fuck, squelas, divebombs, down heavy sound
Hey man, you did a damn good job of figuring out what makes Stevie sound like Stevie and it's evidenced in your playing in this video! Thank you for sharing this stuff. I used to refer to these things as the intagibles, because I always figured it's hard to really put my finger on them, but you managed to do it. Off to watch the Vai vid now. ;)
Hahaha.... I love the 'mushed up' face at the beginning of the video, makes me laugh. I just found your series of videos, thanks for sharing these, they are excellent. I learn something from each one.
So glad I found you. Learning guitar 🎸 is now my passion.
I am not a musician yet was entertained and informed by your vid. I am an SRV fan (saw him in Pittsburgh about 2 weeks before his death) and your explanation of his style or habits was very informative and enjoyable.
Thank you!
Habits of Dave gilmour! Please!
Saw SRV in Perth Western Australia back in the day. he was simply amazing. one of the greats. thanks for post my friend. very helpful.
Awesome ty man Great video SRV my all time favorite and you really did him justice
Great, I was actually able to incorporate some of the tricks right away and it changed my sound, so thanks! Cheers from Brasil.
Habits of Eric Johnson? Dimebag?
COME ON GUYS PRESS LIKE, ERIC JOHNSON NEXT IN NEXT VIDEO
ahhh....no
if it just said Dime i would have liked it...
Jibicus Maximus Eric Johnson has awesome technique
Very slick video series idea. executed nicely man keen to see more!!
Great detail on your video! Kudos! Love SRV my all time favorite. I will watch as many SRV teaching videos as you put up!
This is a great series! We all fall into our own habits, fingering we know well. This is a cool way to expand our playing by picking up on another artist's habits, techniques, without trying to copy licks note by note. Thanks, I'll have another one of these, please!
David Gilmour!!!!!!!!!
chippchipp1, I agree.
chippchipp1 yeeeesssssss :-)
chippchipp1 he just did!!!!
Tons of slow slides and bending. I play David all the time.
DG beats SRV #fact
awesome man thank you for opened my eyes of more SRV stuff. RIP Stevie we love you.
Nice job and I love the format. You have an excellent knack for mentoring and you guitar work is immaculate. I will check out your other videos.
hey, im so glad you did stevie hes one of my favorite guitarist
Jesterofsound have you looked into a youtube channel called Texas Blues Alley? Lots of SRV lessons.
Filipe Amaral No, I will thanks for the suggestion
honestly, of ALL guitar players, I feel like no one has ever matched his style/technique. his left hand muting ability was insane, and his raking was great. The way he could hit all 6 strings, but only let one note sound out at a time.
Elephantricity John Mayer actually pulls it off
TheMidNiteLiteCompany Houston I was gonna say John Mayer comes close. But John Mayer's sound is more mellow. He doesn't get the raunchy sound SRV did.
Elephantricity John can do it, srv, John Lee Hooker, and Hendrix....it's all there...amongs pop throw away material I must add.
John Frusciante when on his best RHCP game too.
surfjabroni JF is probably one of my fav guitarists also, but his technique isn't as clean as an SRV. John was closer to a hendrix type.
Wicked & fun habits series your doing real cool idea!! Thanks for your work...
Thanks for this video man, Uncle Stevie is the best. God bless You!
habits of jimmy page or hendrix
Habits of Gary Moore? :D
Great video man! Keep going!!!
love your work mate.
I took the heaviest gauge baritone guitar strings I could find and put them on an inexpensive 6 string acoustic guitar. I used standard guitar tuning and it sounded really great while it lasted. I also built up some massive grooved calluses on my fingertips. The guitar just wasn't built to tolerate that much tension though. Now I can use it to shoot arrows.
@Guitar Dudeo I did it because I bought into the SRV heavy gauge string myth. That's exactly right. The baritone strings were still flexible enough to bend slightly. Hammer ons and pull offs were possible though I don't use them all that often. I've never developed much of a vibrato anyway. I play exclusively acoustic guitar and my impression is that vibrato is much easier to attain on a solid body electric guitar with lighter gauge strings.
@Guitar Dudeo Speaking of vibrato though, I love watching Albert King and BB King play. They really showcase that technique.
Habits of Jerry Garcia
underrated post
Yes!!
hey man , don't worry bout my habits,im chillin in the after-life now....
heroin and eating
The "habits of" series is some of the very best instruction I've seen online in years. Excellent for catching the spirit of various influential players without doing a knock-off. Keep it up.
As a huge SRV fan who plays guitar. You have my up most respect. Stevie would be proud. I feel you done him justice.
Habits of Guthrie Govan!
Cant get enough of his Regret #9 solo
Habits of Alex Lifeson would be cool.
Dance to what you're playing
CaptainZuzlike Pinch harmonics, regular harmonics, and smooth, wavy tremolo👌👌
CaptainZuzlike One habit of his is divorcing women because they wore a watch lol. (Uma Thurman)
Trapper A
??? He's still married to his high school sweetheart!
Ooh, thank you so much for this vid 😊🤘🖤
I don't play but learning his technic was enlightening. I have so much respect for the talent and individuality of Stevie, I can only imagine if he were still here.
Habits of Jimi Hendrix, please. Buy a good dentist.
Habits of Jeff Beck.
Thumb only.
Great video! Learned a lot. Thanks!
Habits of muddy waters! Thanks for the work in putting this up!
Habits of John Mclaughlin, Jeff Beck, Danny Gatton... this list could get pretty long
Habits of Marty Friedman would be pretty sick
Sandyzzz can you say that in tabulature plz
music theory cannot be explained to number readers
Awesome, thanks. Getting out my guitar now to try a few things. Then watching more of your videos.
EXCELLENT teaching. Many people can SHOW you what to play but not everybody is a good teacher. You're a good teacher
I would call it passion as opposed to aggression or anger.
How about habits of Robbed Ford ?
Warren Hayne is also a favourite of mine too, especially for tone.
awesome dude, Stevie ray always a big fan, & to watch a bid on some one who knows even more is just epic, again dude, awesome
N I C E. Nice job indeed. Much appreciated, many thanks.
habits of GARY MOORE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?
Oh hell yeah!
Yes
the habits of Mick Ronson ... David Bowie's early guitarist

Dude you crack my ass up with all of the subtle humor you throw into your lessons it makes it that much more easier to watch. Thanks to you ive managed to piss off ever guitarist I know and play drums for in a matter of a few months ive progressed 10 fold compare to the avg begginer and they hate it! Ty sir!
Thank you for being the first !
The first person I have watched who just wanted to show what he was doing without trying to force me to detune my guitar !!!
I never wanted to sound like him ,I just want to do my version of his songs
2:25 Yes, it's 8th notes but counted in a type of feel like: *and-1, and-2, and-3, and-4*. If you can apply that to your normal blues riffing then you can understand one of Stevie's biggest habits. He also very often will strum those strings open or partially open, giving him a sort of "sloppy" sound that Hendrix also did (but in a slightly different way). Great video!!
4:39. Isn't 6th string buzzing?
That's what he said: played in a shuffle time
Nice! Habits of Dimebag Darrell?
great tutorial. I love SRV!
what kind of amp have you ? Because I just bought a mexican fende strato and I would like to reproduce the same sound as srv
Love the videos. Good stuff and keep'em coming. I would like to see some of Tony Iommi's habits from early Sabbath. Especially from their first album and beyond. Thanks again for the service of keeping this stuff alive. K
Habits of Brian May!! I am very curious how this ends up.
Hello, n you please do a video on the Habits of Gary Rossington, thank you, Cousin Figel
Very inspiring, really cool video man
This lesson helped me majorly thank you
Have to do one on Alex Lifeson !
Jim Hendrix! Bonus if you can teach me exactly how to play like him in 10 minutes or less, I'm in kind of a hurry. 😎
I know you're just joking but if you want to learn Hendrix's techniques then you've got to forget all the modernized blues you know and just focus on him. Jimi's style was the result of a self-taught musician for sure. Aside from being amazing, his unorthodox style makes him all the harder to copy.
Brandon Veracka I've only seen one artist in person who could pull it off. An Asian guy in a bar on bourbon street. A few other rock stars have done great tributes.
Brian P. Check out Randy Hansen,
Brian P and Stuart Hewett check out Gary Moore covering Hendrix too.
Brian P. I know what you mean. VERY FEW guitarists can even touch Hendrix, but you can learn a few of his tricks to get close. Still, as you know, that could take a lifetime and even then it's a matter of raw talent.
I feel better about it now, I've been trying this and find it pretty difficult and seeing you who I admire as a guitar player not really doing it to perfection makes me know it's really as hard as it seems. Thanks
Haha yes sir " I play Stevie all the time " it took me forever to get more....of his habits good work my friend
You should do John Mayer next.
DiogoCastro John Mayer is just SRV with a pop sensibility. U dont need one on him. just play SRV and u will get it...
DiogoCastro besides...thats what John Mayer did to play like that. its all about using SRV's comping style. lots of double stops and play as many bluesy variations on a solo til it just becomes the way u speak on the guitar. U have to put in the work. make even the simplest melody sing and vary it til u exhaust all possibilities. thats how u grow musically.
Daniel Hartle Can you say the same for SRV ? Basically SRV was pulling from the book of Hendrix , Albert King , Buddy Guy , Larry Davis, and a few other bluesman . While Stevie was a damn good guitarist he pulled from these men heavily and in some cases verbatim . So don't believe that Stevie was that original .
Angus Young next episode ! :D
Enjoyed Your Presentation.
SRV is one of my Idols when it comes to guitar players.
Awsome series you have going on here Music is Win
