Yeah but not all businesses are the same!! And in some businesses people...i.e. customers are stupid at times!! I was working as a contractor and people honestly think Home Depot and Lowe's gives contractors a "special price" which they don't!! And trust me other folks think lumber is cheap, until you hit them with a material cost and they FREAK that their $800 (according to them customers) deck is now a $8000 deck!! Sure wood grows on trees, but not when you have to pay to buy it!!! And pressure treated decking and posts get expensive when the idiot customer wants a 24 by 60 foot deck and thinks you can buy material for just $600 which you can't!! In the end I have had a lot of jobs fall through just because people think I am trying to steal money from them for the cost of the lumber. And not everybody is so stupid, BUT I have had people ask me "Can you remodel and rebuild my whole kitchen for $500 and make it look like we spent $15,000 on it?" The only DAMN WAY you are going to get a "$15,000 Kitchen" is to actually SPEND the $15,000 to start with!!! And then people think my time is cheap!! I have had a lot of people complain about my labor costs when I was only charging $10 an hour, you really want to freak people out, hit them with a $15 an hour labor charge for a "three day project" and it adds up quickly!! In one bid I put in the family wanted a 20 foot by 50 foot deck on the side of their home AND a 12 by 20 foot shed that was stick built, and they about crapped themselves at my $12,000 quote, and I was undercutting my labor by so much I was almost paying THEM to work on their project!! I never knew what they finally did, but I have drove by the house and see they still do not have the shed or deck that they wanted!!!!
Love this video. It's amazing how these issues run across the industry, no matter where the business is located. I've been in the business over 20 years and when you first get going you really have to learn by taking your lumps. She is letting everyone know the issues before you even get going!

Very informative, I was thinking of starting a t-shirt business but I didn't know where to begin you gave me alot of good information keep it coming..😁
This is one of you best informative video yet, I started T Shirts a little over 5 years ago first sublimation on light shirts due to the fact any exact computer image can be printed on light T's but could not be printed on dark T with the same out standing results then I added Screen Printing and love those results, also the potential is there if you work at it, for me it is more of fun profitable hobby, but keep up the good work Tshirt Chick

My dear, I have been in product & business development in several industries for 35 years. You have offered here some of the BEST advice I have ever heard. And yes, I've heard much of it before.... BUT IT'S ALL FACTUALLY TRUE! Every suggestion you made is SPOT ON and applicable to other businesses & industries. Thank You! You made my day, and I would consider you #1, and a GREAT reason for me to visit Louisiana!
God Bless You. Your attractive , polite, articulate and honest. You mention your mistakes to benefit others . Your demonstrations are clear and well spoken. Your great advice could be benefit anyone looking to start a business.
Thank you. This is clear, concise, and should be at the top of every recommended list. I appreciate how you give examples and show off your shop and set-ups.
Your the most down to earth out there to me. i enjoy seeing how you do things just starting out water based ink just got my 4 color one station in with 20x24 230 mesh screens exicted. Making mistakes daily but im learining so much your videos are good for guys like me keep doing what you do . !! Have you ever spliced film positives ??
Great timing for me to see this. We are trying to start a similar business but we're hesitant. This was a well thought out and helpful video from somebody that has obviously experienced each thing she gives advice for. Thank you.
I have been printing off and on for 35 years or so. These points are valid no matter how long you are in business. I have taken orders with and without deposits & thankfully been burned only a few times. I am a trusting guy that you will pay for the custom shirts that you order.i also agree on the vinyl vs. Ink idea for small quantity orders. I can knock out an order with vinyl much faster than with ink and cleanup is much better. The worst part about using vinyl is when the customer doesn't follow instructions or pass the instructions of proper care to whomever, and the "print" gets ruined. On the rare occasion I have not taken a deposit and gotten burned they were small orders. They make great work or play shirts for kids.
Great advise. I have been very careful starting out my new t-shirt business. I take pride in what I print and bring forward to customers. I have been doing OK but mostly because of my partner who does the actual selling of the t-shirts and products I am able to produce. Also I have people on yourtube like YOU! who has help me with your tutorials. I thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
