I bought my AirPods Pro back in November 2019 brand new from the Apple Store. Jump forward 22 months later (to September 2021) and the crackling/static noise was very apparent in the right AirPod. I took matters in my own hands and went back to the Apple Store. After they did a complete diagnostics on them, come find out I needed not one but BOTH AirPods replaced. The sound; especially with Noise Cancellation & Transparency mode is a night and day difference. Glad I was able to get these replaced at no cost by not having to dish out any money.
@@kol3158 since my AirPods Pro were purchased before October 2020, the Apple Store replaced them at no cost to me. Apparently the earlier models have an issue with static primarily in the right one. I’m very relieved I didn’t have to pay any money out of pocket on these.
I had the same issue, went to the Apple store and they confirm both AirPods failed the sound test. But it was 5 days out of warranty so I could get replacements for 180 bucks. Contacted Apple support and spoke with them about replacement. I was told it’s only for AirPods manufactured before Oct 2020. Mine was 2021, I told them obviously it’s still an issue but they didn’t care. I’m not gonna pay that much to replace crap that’s gonna break again when they know it’s still an issue.
I'm on my third pair because of this issue. Got them replaced via Apple support in mid 2020 and then they announced the extended service program. Same crackling issue happened and the Apple store replaced them a few months ago under the program. Looks like it's a one-time deal though, which I suppose makes sense. Same issue has started again and I can get them replaced again at pretty much the same price as the new AirPods third gen. This sounds like a hardware problem that they hopefully can fix whenever the rumored second gen pros come out. Kind of reminds me of the butterfly keyboard issues that eventually led them to getting rid of it altogether.
Mine was a different story, my AirPods Pro case led indicator stopped working out of nowhere so I went to the apple store for a replacement. They took it in, it took a week to get it all back and got the same box as this guy. They replaced everything not sure why but got new earbuds and the case ofc so basically new AirPods after one year of use. And I was lucky I had 5 days left on my limited warranty so it costed 0$
Thank you for the tips. I received my AirPods Pro in 2020, and in 2023 I started to experience a crackling sound. Unfortunately for me, I live in Liberia, so it is difficult for me to get a free replacement.
Thank you for the information. I was on the phone with Apple today about the crackling sound and no one mentioned a recall. 😒 I plan to call back *tomorrow* and discuss this recall.

Thanks for the info! Got a free replacement in like 48 hours. Apple probably has the best support i have ever seen.
1st gen airpod - no issues. 2nd gen airpod - kept losing connection and had interference a lot. Airpod pro - crackling from left one when I am speaking (noise cancelling only) or when I touch the stalk. Apple replaced both as right one was on its way out. This is poor quality from Apple. Very poor.
I dunno if i have the same issue but for me i notice my pro’s when I’m walking or running it feels like there is a small ball inside the airpods itself like every time i step i here a popping sound, i can here clearly in noise cancellation or transparency mode,
The sound you’re talking about is happening with mine, it’s actually the ear tip sticking to itself. Try gently pushing down on the top of the AirPod while it’s in your ear, or taking it out and just wiggling the ear tip you likely will hear it
Mine only sometimes tranparency doesn’t work do u think I am eligible to ask for replacement actually I want a replacement bcos I scratched a log on left ear bud pls let me know what I shud do??
Sounds like it would fall under the sound issue program. Not sure but have you tried resetting them? And if that doesn’t there is definitely something wrong. And if you physically broke them you might have to pay for the replacement. it’s a free exchange as long as they look in good condition.
I had them replaced few months back, think it was august, and they are starting to crack again. Left first and most, right a little bit. Terrible series. In a few days it will be one year of having them…
Sadly, I got a black paint job done for my Pros (got them at release day) and was already owning them over a year when the crackling in my left AirPod started. I‘m now stuck with a pair that I can only use in normal mode. Huge downer. Quality control was way better a few years back.
Yikes! The paint job probably ruined the warranty. You still have the option to pay $89 each, for a replacement. It’s not like the replacement I talked about in this video but it’s a replacement for lost AirPods Pro.
I bought mine on eBay in 2020 and they worked fine until now I only received the AirPods when I got them , can is still contact Apple support and replace them?
You shouldn’t have any problem with Apple support. New or used, the serial number stays the same and you are eligible. You shouldn’t have to even tell Apple they are used because that clearly isn’t the issue if they have worked fine up until this point.
Thank you so much for your information and video! I was having issues since 2020 and it was going on for sometime. Both my partner and I were having issues and last week we got them replaced. They sound amazing now!
I am getting these exchanged for the 2nd or possibly 3rd time. I experienced a drilling/vibrating sound in the left AirPod. Spoke to Apple they walked me through the troubleshooting steps, didn’t work so they sent it for repair, I got them back but the issue wasn’t fixed they they’d booked another repair, sent them off again they couldn’t isolate the issue so advised that there’s no issue. I have no sent them off for a third time with the same issue and also I noticed the left AirPod had issues charging. Hopefully this time it’s all fixed.
That’s a great question! They should send the same case back, unless the case is also having issues. I’m pretty sure I got the same one back because I have my case engraved. I don’t think they would do that again.
Mine where from late 2019 and had the same issue in my left one. I let them repair by apple. (They replaced both airpods & gave it a new apple id & probably some kind of firmware update I would guess. They sound a lot better now (in general more crisp) and dont have any issues anymore (no crackeling whatsoever. Even when pausing music you can not hear one tiny bit of noise) You can honestly just put them on with noise canceling and no music and everything sounds really distant (Its like if you have some preassure on your ears from altitute).
