    great dance video Leon and Kim.. and thanks for showing off your dance steps. Unfortunately i have to agree with some other folks commenting on here, that baggy trousers around your feet, are not suitable when teaching these dance steps.. Loved the video anyway and kind regards to you both.

    Great video and explanation. I have always danced free style and when I tried swing I would always get confused. But this really helps explain the steps. Thanks for sharing!

    With their backs to the camera is ingenious. It's the best way to teach someone how to do the steps. I don't know if anyone else does it that way.

    Thank you for the instructive video. I don't understand the difference between Jive and East Coast Swing. The East Coast Swing looks to me like a smooth and moderate Jive.

    • @Passion4dancing
      @Passion4dancing  7 років тому +16

      Hi Marc, The Swing is definitely slower and while the basic step foot pattern is essentially the same as Jive, the technique is a little different. Swing is less bouncy and you can create more body/hip action since it's slower. Many steps are similar in the beginner/Bronze sections, but the syllabus does differ quite a bit afterwards. Hope this helps.

  • @dancinglo
    @dancinglo 7 років тому +7

    I like how you adopt the technique to teach this. Not too shadow to become fake and not too hard. good choice.

    The steps to the count were great, but I got completely lost when the music started at a difference (faster?) pace and there was no count. If you do another one, please run the verbal count through the music at least once.

  • @PaulDHorn
    @PaulDHorn 7 років тому +6

    I don't understand what "triple step" refers to--I don't see 3 of anything. Not clear.

    • @Panic_Pickle
      @Panic_Pickle 6 років тому +6

      PaulDHorn as they count you through it, it's step to the side (1), bring your trailing foot beside the leading foot (2), and step out again (3). So it's step, together, step. Counted quickly, so hence the 1,2 (rocking steps to open), 3 and 4 (three quick counts for the triple step), 5 and 6 (triple step once more in the opposite direction.

    Helpful video! But as a beginner, I'm wondering if the woman is allowed to speak? Or do we just remain silent and follow the man? I feel like this will be the most difficult part for me to learn, so if you could provide an instructional video on that it would be appreciated.

    • @Passion4dancing
      @Passion4dancing  5 років тому +2

      Speak during the dance? In general, the ladies follow the men in dancing, so it's not so much about speaking out loud, but following each other's body. For example if the leader applies pressure fwd through his arms, the follower feels it and steps back... Hope that is what you mean.

    Ballroom dancers look silly trying to swing dance with those ramrod straight up backs, and doing that latin hip thing. LOL
    Don't learn swing dancing from a ballroom dancer.

    • @rud1gga155
      @rud1gga155 5 років тому

      Right. You better learn dancing without a hip and a back looking like gollum. Much better. Cos everybody in your world looks looks like that. So it must be right.... lul

    • @rud1gga155
      @rud1gga155 5 років тому

      Im not the one started making fun of people who just dance different. I know very good by myself that these guys in the vid dont dance swing. But dont be so ignorant. Only cos you cant do it the way they do, this doesnt mean it is wrong. Its just different.

    • @patrickarmstrong8908

      if you cha-cha, then use latin hip
      If you waltz - there is NO latin hip
      Swing there is NO latin hip and it's piked position with shared balance and body lead.
      Trying to dance swing like a ballroom dancer is not swing - it's a silly looking.l
      I can dance ballroom - better than ballroom dancers can dance swing.
