  • This video is sponsored by ‪@DixieBellePaint‬. I'm taking notes from the HATERS and stripping paint off of this nightstand I use as a end table in my living room. I'll be using some stain to give it a rich, deep look to warm up my living room. Will the paint haters / wood lovers still come for me or will they like this furniture makeover? You be the judge!

I restored antiques as a living for 26 yrs, the thing is about those who complain?, A: most of them don't own anything above the cost of IKEA, or BOBs discount furniture.. they don't purchase antiques that are restored or broken themselves, and B: if people like you don't save, repair, and/or paint them, they end up in landfills, I personally have pulled beautiful wooden antiques from dumps and landfills, restored them to original and those people never showed up to purchase them?.. where were all those haters to purchase them before they headed to the landfill?.. yeah nowhere to be found, but easy to complain online about someone else saving them.

I love wood! I was brought up in the 1970s in a household with parents who would buy second hand furniture at yard sales for our home. They would sigh sadly as they were stripping a piece of furniture in our garage that they had bought second hand and say, "Why did they paint this beautiful piece? The paint totally ruined it." It was instilled in me that paint ruins furniture. But, there is always a place for paint in my household. When there is just too much damage in the veneer for me to fix easily, I will paint and I love it!

My perspective is: Examine the piece closely before deciding whether to paint or restore. If it's a beautiful well-made piece w/lots of hardwood/hardwood veneer in good shape, keep as much of the beautiful wood showing as possible (maybe w/a lighter, more natural finish.) But if there's a lot of particle board, poplar, stained/damaged/missing veneer, then paint away!

I haven’t watched you before ….the title caught my eye. I only struggle when I see a creator ruin an antique. Some pieces have no business being painted. Covering walnut, tiger wood, real cherry, hickory, or mahogany….is a crime. Your piece looks fantastic.

It's amazing how you can take one piece of furniture and transform it with paint, stain & different hardware! I love it! In my opinion, whether you paint or whether you use stain on a piece, it's a matter of personal preference & sometimes the actual piece of furniture may dictate which method is best. I have always enjoyed your work Christina. Thank you! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your family. May 2024 bring you many blessings & golden opportunities for growth!

I have to admit I love the stain on this piece; elevates the look IMHO. However, sometimes paint is necessary to cover damaged wood/veneer/etc. I also love how you use color to achieve drama. And besides, you're the one doing the work, so you should have the choice of how you redo a piece. They all turn out gorgeous! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!!🎄🎄🎄

I will never understand. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when it comes right down to it - it's YOUR furniture pieces, it's YOUR time, effort and hardwork, it is either YOUR house or YOUR sales listing, AND it's YOUR video that not one single person commenting has been forced to watch upon penalty of death.
All I see is the word YOUR'S, which means that it's no one else's business what you choose to do or how you choose to do it, in the end.

I have found through the years these people are ignorant of the amazing history of painted furniture due to a lack of education and the inability to travel. In this instance it’s education as you see they like a “real wood” finish. Next there’s the ridiculous notion paint “destroys” wood. lol! It always makes me laugh because ornate, painted, gilded furniture was a sign of wealth and displayed artistic expression and appreciation and was sought out by Kings and aristocracy worldwide. I love these comments you know the whole part that they like furniture from real trees as opposed to fake trees I guess. lol

Painted furniture doesn't bother me unless its a true antique.

My 88 year old mother was buying up cheap vintage garage sale furniture 20 years ago...I still have a piece she painted and dated the year '2005'. The style she did then is as dated looking now as these painted pieces y'all are doing right now will look soon enough.
All these flippers painting goodwill finds need to realize it's just not "wood working" or "furniture refurbishing" it is d.i.y. arts and crafts.

@@ChristinaMuscari and that's why traditional wood never goes out of style. Since beginning of time.

What the haters don't understand is that not all furniture from the 20th Century was made with the best wood, by the best craftsmen. And as another commenter said, so much of it is press board and fibreboard. Pain away.
I cringe, though, when someone takes a beautifully preserved, true antique, and dolls it up like a wh*re. You know, gaudy colors, lots of "gold"...I unsubscribed to one YTer when she did that. You can NEVER get that gorgeous glow a true, preserved antique has.
    You keep painting the uglies.

Not all wood pieces are worth refinishing - too much veneer damage. So why not paint them.

It's not that painting furniture is some kind of sin. It's which pieces get painted sometimes. Saw someone on a different channel paint over a piece built out of mahogany. That's just wrong all day long. I'm furniture builder as well as an upcycler. Figure out what you're working with instead of instinctively getting out the paint can. Sometimes it's better to let the wood tell its story. After all, it took decades - and in some cases, hundreds - of years to develop that story.
