dont work for me
3 years later and this still works! My man thanks for saving me! I was really confused why my monitor wasn't working but it's all good now thanks to you.
6 years??? 4 maybe u mean 4 years and its still works!! :D
Dude you're a life saver. I've had an IT job early in my career and I should know this but completely forgot the basics of troubleshooting! I was going going mad. Thanks for this!
Wife in the background yelling a 3 minute tutorial video won’t fix it , we’ll she was wrong thank you ! And also thanks for proving her wrong
Same thing just happened to me lol. UA-cam for the win
Guess they do all be the same ay? 😂
LOL 😂
I thought my gpu went out overnight i was friekin out this fixed it man thx for saving me time and headaches
As an IT student I don't see how this makes any sense, but it works. One of those black magic moments. It also made my resolution the lowest possible so odd. Thanks!
I use this exact monitor for 7.5 years and this is the first time it happened to me today. You literally saved hours of my life, and I still can't believe that fix actually worked for me. Thanks a lot!
I JUST WORKED ON TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE FOR 6 HOURS TODAY AND MY LAST HOPE WAS THIS VIDEO. THANK YOU SO MUCH............. NO WORDS.
Well here I thought it was either my displayport cable or my GPU...
Went and bought another DP cable, didn't work, started to freak out and thought it was my 1000$CAN GeForce GTX 1080 GPU.
But no, it was simple as that, unpluged ALL my cables from the monitor, waited for 1-2 minutes, plugged all back in, and boom it worked.
You are my hero of the day. Liked.
and the issue never came back? i bought a similar gpu, had the same issue, only to exchange it for a new one to have the same problem.
@@untitledcreep Not that I can recall, no. This would be a different issue, but sometimes my screen would display only half, and I apply either the mentioned troubleshooting steps or simply turning off and on the monitor.
But yes, to answer your question, in my case the steps worked and the issue never came back.
You might want to try the problematic monitor on a different PC to test and see, and also a different display port on the GPU, try to isolate the problem.
What a great tip! Was on the verge of pulling my gpu and trying a new one when I found this! I always tell family and friends to turn it off and on again when they have a computer problem but never thought to do this for myself, thank you my friend :)
What GPU that gives you this problem?
@@Gabo99 HI my friend, mine is a 3070ti but I think it may be my monitor that is having issues as I have to unplug it and power cycle for audio as well sometimes.
Experienced the same issue and this solution worked for my pc. 970 GTX card here. (Aoc 144hz screen)
I just built my PC, now moving over from HDMI to Displayport, I had this issue. Did EXACTLY as lolfreddy advised, and BAM - ALL GOOD! Wanted to take the time to leave a thank you for this video - uploaded 5 years ago.
Tried different cables, drivers, HDMI vs DisplayPort, and this did it. It just needed to be completely powered off for 30 seconds, and back to working. Thanks!
Omg it really works!!!!
I tried unplugging a bunch of times and it just didn’t do the trick
But once I followed your exact instructions it worked perfectly
Thanks
Wow! You did it! You saved me a ton of time, money, and frustration! Thank you! It was working perfectly last night, put it to sleep, and woke up with it not working until now! I tried unplugging it and rebooting and pulling all the chords out but it’s the exact combination you described that made it work again!
Thank you so much. Your comment made me follow exactly what he said and it worked
Bro you’re the goat. I literally took my entire pc apart to find the issue and couldn’t find it and was stressing out so hard 😂. Then I find this and just laugh at the fact that it worked and I wasted the last hour and a half diagnosing the issue in the wrong place
I have been using DP for 4 years without any issues. Suddenly, I faced this problem, and I tried your solution and its working again! Thanks
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" Thank you good sir, most of the time it is the simplest solution!
Yuup works every time 10% of the time.
Lmao I was so confused why my DP wasn't working. Tried a power cycle thank you so much man, it works now. I was running 144hz on hdmi and now I'm 165hz on DP. 2 years later you're still helping people with this video.
can you explain this further, as i am having this issue as well... dp no signal to monitor but signal to second monitor that is hdmi
Normally I'd just try the explanation and then move on if it did or didn't work. I'm leaving a comment here because this incredibly simple solution legitimately works. All the Internet articles I scrolled through all kept saying the same thing, "it's a faulty wire, the GPU died, there's a power issue". All these possibilities that I knew weren't the case because I literally just restarted my computer after just using it and it stopped working. This video is the only one that actually worked... A 5 year old two minute video worked better than current articles made the same month as the problem I just faced. You're a legend for showing a less talked about solution.
I’m glad it worked out for you! Thanks for letting us know 🥰
5 years later and this still works, TNX !!!❣
it actually worked thank you so much. Was about to order a new 2080ti but everything is all good now. Holy crap i was so scared. Earned a new sub ill share the video for sure. THX
Went through this issue for days, replaced nearly every component in my PC, and EVEN the actual GPU... FINALLY found your video. I owe you a huge debt of gratitude sir. Thank you!
I honestly think this is the first time an "easy fix" video title actually lived up to its name. Thank you so much
OMG dude.... you saved me from buying a new graphics card... I have exactly this Monitor, and both Display Ports stopped working today.
This was exactly my issue, weird how it was the first time in 4 years of having the monitor. Super helpful!
Everyone is having a success story while I’ve tried everything and it’s still not working😣
same bro!
@@fizz5872 I’ll update you if I fix it
@Ivan no, sadly. I had to call asus tech support and I had to ship it out to their warehouse. It arrives there on Friday and I can’t expect to get it back for 2-4 weeks which is a bummer
@@alexochoa1395 did they tell you wats wrong?
@@JusTwon I bought two different monitors before I figured it was a gpu problem and it came back about a week ago and my pc has finally been working now
This worked for me: Unplug the displayport cable, turn off the monitor, unplug the power cable; wait like 2 to 3 minutes; replug your cables and turn on the monitor. After this my monitor still didn't work, so what I did was go to settings and choose to extend display (or windows + P => extend display) for me this worked and my monitor worked again!
5 years and still saving lives!! Thank you 😅❤
What the FUNK!
It worked... how... why.... Ok, cool, yep.
Thank you!
PS: Had this monitor since Nov 17, 2014- no issues. Then today, no signal. Tried unplugging it, tried different cables... somehow the whole unplug monitor, and turn EVERYTHING off for 30 seconds did the trick. wtfunk.
This worked. Appreciated the "to the point" description for the video.
Thanks a bunch! my DisplayPort stopped working out of nowhere and I though it was a hardware problem. After doing this it worked!
March 2024 and this still works, I honestly could not believe it... Thank you sir
You are BREATHTAKING! I have the same monitor as you, won't lie thought it was my display port cable that was shot from a year ago and I bought a new one! To be honest, the one I bought was cheap anyways but this DID the trick! I smashed the like button and subscribed! I love a person who gets straight to the point.
You have no idea how thankful I am to have found this video. Heart was pounding at the thought that it was a gpu problem. Thanks man!
Dude.... you have no idea how helpful this was. This is my exact monitor, what are the odds?
I can't believe this works. I already use 3 different DP cables but all didn't work. This instructions works like a charm.
Dude you're a life saver! God bless you. I pray you have a fantastic 2023 filled with favour, blessings and good news always. The happiness you made me feel after this worked may you always experience that joy 10x all the days of your life. God bless you. You're amazing.
Almost forgot to say, I was so happy when you showed your monitor cause we have the exact same monitor. I was so happy😂
Thank you once again. Have a lovely April and year👊🏽👊🏽
Thanks man this worked perfectly. I was at it for hours taking the hdmi, displayport and everything out of computer and monitors. Once I unplugged the power cord to the monitor (I was having issues with no signal) I waited 30 seconds like you said, plugged back in, turned on monitor and it came right up!!! Thanks for the help!
This is literally the stupidest thing that has ever worked. I spent months trying to get my dp to work and finaly gave up and shelled out the money for a brand new gpu only to have it still not work. Days more of hunting through the internet and trying everything to make the dp work. I've downloaded drivers, hunted through my bios, spent over a thousand usd on new hardware and you've just solved the issue in 30 seconds. Thank you so much!
It's WORK! A True life saver for me. I tried every methods. Unfortunately nothing works. I almost return my 4070super. Many thanks.
Thank you Freddy! I just wanted to chip in that this actually worked. It took me 3 attempts to get this right - so glad this tip solved my problem:)
Zoo I. D uuooxx x x xx to. Ffff zx
Thank you so much! This worked for me! I was afraid something was wrong with my graphics card, so I'm glad it was something so simple.
Holy Crap... Works on Acer .... I did everthing before.... even buyed a new monitor 30min before watching this video. I can cry
I can't believe it was just the monitor having issues and this easy fix helped, thank you so much I can't express my gratitude enough!
Awesome job man, didn't even have to watch the video just followed the steps in the description worked perfectly the first time. Thank you so much I got home from work and was extremely pissed off that my stuff wasn't working.
This particular screen has issues, this happens to me every 6 months which is a shame because it otherwise works perfectly. Thank you very much for this video which is now in my favorites.
WHAT THE ACTUAL ****... this is more than just black magic... this is some kind of Lovecraftian old god stuff... I have a 49" Samsung with PBP HDMI and DP... Monitor went into standby few minutes later, the DP half stopped working... I tried everything, new cable, HDMIs, adapters, miniDP, everything... didn't work, and then... I just stumble over your vid and you just say, unplug it and it will work... DUDE... yes... it works... give this man a cookie or something. TY
Hilarious that this worked. I have two identical monitors, both connected to my vid card with Display Port. Did a windows update, restarted, and only the HDMI port worked. Since the identical monitor wasn't affected, I didn't think power cycling would matter. Bizarre. Thank you!
This happened I have the same monitor, I tried everything from re-seating the graphics card, updating the drivers, unplugging my pc and plugging it back in, never once did it occur to me to do this I feel like an idiot, lmao, thank you.
Worked. I only have to power the monitor off, wait a while, unplug everything from the monitor (PC was still ON) and plug everything back in and power the monitor back on. Perfect, thanks!
was just getting dressed to go to Best Buy to waste money on a new cable and found this video just before. Thanks for saving me time and money, fix worked.
Thank you. This worked great. Usually turning something off/on is my go to, but I didn't think about letting it power cycle for 30 seconds.
After all these steps my monitor keeps going on a loop where it turns on. No signal, powers back down over and over. I tried rebooting my pc countless times. It worked once and it turned off after I hit the windows logo upon rebooting. Idk what to do anymore
Words cannot describe how happy I am to have found this video. You are a lifesaver!
Dude, you're a legend for this. I was looking at refresh rates and going through so many fixes but this did it first try. Thanks so much!
A little thing for others who may be having a similar issue, try turning off G-Sync if you have that enabled as it turned out I was getting a similar issue because my display port has the number 20 pin enabled due to it being a replacement because my old cable died, which was causing my monitor to turn off periodically while in or loading games.
how to disable g-sync if you monitor has No Signal?
@@mar0k Only thing I can suggest is to use a different cable if you have one, maybe swap to hdmi if your monitor allows just temporarily, if not and it's only turning off periodically then I'd wait for it to turn back on. Sorry I could be more helpful but this is the best solution I've got for you lol.
@@W4TT3Y Thanks for your answer. In my case, the monitor and cabel is ok. However, it looks like the routing of the newly installed CPU liquid cooling system was preventing a motherboard from starting correctly, including the monitor connectivity. After switching both cabels between CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT connectors it seems to work (even the manual says otherwise). :)
my monitor shows windows logo and than no display , anyone??
Omfg 2 hours of trying to figure out wtf is wrong with my pc. Thank you so much. Such a stupid solution
5 years later and this still works! Solved the problem in 60 seconds. How do I donate?
Thank you man, my monitors display port randomly stopped working like yours and all I had to do was un plug it and it reset back to the DP! Life saver thank you
I'm an EE and pretty damn senior developer and general computer wizard so when my monitor decided to go black on me after starting from sleep 5 days ago I feared the worst. I even soldered cables to various test points on my GTX 970 so I could debug the signals with an oscilloscope - but no joy. The DP port was streaming data! I even went so far as to beginning to hack the monitor firmware...
To make a long story short your solution works! I did unplug my monitor briefly for perhaps 10-15 seconds but that didn't help. Now I waited for almost a minute and everything came back!
I wish they'd put this in the documentation somewhere but no - and I feel pretty stupid for not looking at the simplest solutions first instead of breaking out the tools.
So - from the very bottom of my heart - thank you for posting this brief video! I didn't trust it but after 5 frustrating days of debugging hardware and high speed protocols I was getting desperate, and it turns out that your description was 100% true! I'm talking to ASUS already about my debugging sessions and I'll update them with this simple, but effective, solution ;)
THANK YOU!!!
Will it work for a hdmi cable with displayport adapter?
I have the same thing and was gonna ask this to
Can’t get it to work with my adapter @consume egg
Thank you so much u saved me from a panic attack with this video thank u so much!!!!
Dude, I thought my monitor was busted. You just saved me a few hundred bucks!!!
This power cycle trick works, but it's not a permanent fix. The problem will reoccur eventually. Read about the "pin 20" issue with DisplayPort cables and how most manufacturers appear to ignore VESA standards.
Good to keep in mind. Are there brands on the market that are compliant and would solve the issue permanently?
Can I just do it again and again and again?
So changing to HDMI if possible would solve the problem? :)
Or to another branded DP cable?
@@hamph1337 Changing to HDMI would solve the problem but it doesn't support more than 60hz. Switching to another DP cable wouldn't solve the problem.
holy hell i feared the most when i started reading all forums about rtx 2060 displayport fix thank you for uploading this video, your my hero.
5 year later and it still worked :O , i have same monitor u mentioned in video and wasn't expecting it to work but it does :D , i had these issues before but idk how i dealt them but they do took hours but this time it take few seconds, i just poweroff my system , unplug power cable and display port for 30sec and done it now working , thank's alot
THANK YOU! Posted 4 years ago, still out here saving lives for us that don't know about power cycling. Man bless you and your whole family
Its not working for me. My comp it is 10ft from my monitor so for cable management i got 15ft cables. 2 display and 1 hdmi. The 15ft hdmi works but DP does not. If i switch to a 10ft DP it works. Is 15ft too long or is there another trick you know of.
Rtx2080
Asus PG278QR
Monoprice cables
Yes, seems to be too long, it might not have good shielding from external signals. Long HDMI/DP cables tend to cost a LOT of money, and I mean a lot. So if you went for one of the cheaper ones, it might not have proper shielding. Or simply signal just drops going through such distance.
May new acer windows 10 8th gen. Monitor no signal how ro fix? Anyone can help me? Thanks
It worked for me on my acer, thanks for sharing this video! I really appreciate it
You saved my money!! two year old monitor. A few days over warranty and nothing worked anymore with the displayport.
Was ready to buy a new cable but then this worked. Gotta say thank you for saving my money.
Exactly same issue, exactly same monitor, exactly same fix, thank you, much appreciated mate
Thank you so much. After returning 2 monitors (this one being the 3rd), I was about to give up entirely. Your trick worked like a charm. For anyone who is having issues, make sure you turn the power switch behind the monitor off AS WELL AS the display power/sleep button.
Hey did you unplug the thing from you outlet or just the plug that goes in the back of the monitor, Ive been struggling for the past two days and I’ve just been trying to get important stuff done :/
after 5 years and still working, thanks a lot
I have the exact! same monitor which I have owned for 4 years. my screen went black as i was playing a game. I was very frustrated trying to fix it. then i saw the video ! tried and it worked! big thanks!
I have the exact same monitor which I have owned for 3 years now. This happened for the first time today out of the blue. I was getting very frustrated trying to fix it. This video saved the day! All good and working again, thanks!
Thank you so much! This worked so well. I've been checking for months on how to fix it and none of them have worked until now
I first used a hdmi cord then my monitor would turn black for a couple seconds then back on. Recently I found out I have a display cord I can use. I’m using a AOC monitor and I did the trick you gave us and it still doesn’t work.. any other tips ?
WOW 2022 and this method still work, thanks a lot man!!!
i called the service centre then watched your video,,,baam monitor starts working, saves me a headache, thankyou!

I just saved $229 by fixing my Westinghouse monitor with this method. Thanks Man!
Works on a Samsung 32 as well. You genius. Is your name Roy? "Hello IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?". I swear I turned everything on and off except physically unplugging the monitor.
ohh i love you "no homo" TYSM wven if its 3 years since you uploaded this video
This actually worked! Well god damn. I was freaking out for a bit thinking the display port on my card or monitor died.
Thanks man
Thankyou man I love you. This worked, I tired so many things but this one did the job.
5 years after video was posted and still fixing issues. This happened before and I bought a new cable thinking that was the issue and it worked. Less than 3 months and it happened again. Found this video and figured I would try it and it worked!
Bruh...it actually worked
Thanks for the tip!!! You saved my day. It worked like a charm after 45 minutes of frustration and thinking I had a defective graphics card on a brand new Dell computer.
I could not for the life of me figure this out... even updated my bios and reinstalled drivers, thank you!
ffs I've opened my laptop (tried to disconnect bios battery), updated my bios, discharded battery, reinstall windows - omfg. You are the best!
I just finished setting up my dell desktop in my room. I’ve got all the wires plugged in the right place i think. And had the same thing so I unplugged it for 30 seconds n back in now it’s says my pc didn’t start up correctly so I’m restarting it.
Is that the right thing to do ?
This is the real fix!, Right click your desktop click on display settings scroll down to were it says multiple displays and choose extend these displays and it will pop right back up.
you are fucking awesome!
didnt work for me. It tries to then remains black
thanks man it worked for me but i choose "show only on 1"
I ducking know holy crap was literally just about to buy a new one life saver!
Calibrated doese it works?
This worked. Didn't think it would. Wouldn't have tried if you hadn't suggested it. 10/10
Cannot believe it ! Tried many things even changed to HDMI ! But the HZ was not efficient after trying this twice it worked !!
I have a msi monitor 144hz, the monitor have three ports, DP,DVI,AND HDMI, I HAVE THE THREE Cables I hook one by one and no picture just the power light,so I dont know
