Hey DCA! I have a question: what are the thinnest, easiest knives to carry (while still being solid) for less than $70 ? Please no assisted knives if possible. Thanks !
Hello DCA! Why is it that, when there are economic steels like 14c28n that have more toughness than 1095, better edge retention than 1095 and better corrosion resistance than 1095, several companies are still using 1095 steel in most survival knives? Thanks for your interest.
Carbon steel can be used with flint to throw sparks. 1095 is cheaper and is softer, this easier to sharpen and maintain even if you only have a river stone to sharpen with. 1095 is THE trusty, reliable, functional steel. Best kitchen knife I ever used was an old hickory 1095. Scary sharp in 2 seconds. Doesn't need to be stainless.
I would like to know which options I have if I want a two bladed folder with locking blades (like CS Lucky or lionsteel best man but with locking blades). I just know of very poor quality folder or super pricey. Show me what you got 👍💪 Thank you
Love segment on traditional blades. Many traditionals offer great performance with a nod to history. These designs have survived for a reason - they work. Although prices are going up I still like Condors due to their traditional styling. I often carry a bird & trout style knife when day hiking - light & nimble yet capable. Would love more content on traditionals (fixed or folders). Finally, if looking to process wood, the Elementum would be the last blade I'd pick! I'm surprised that the blade didn't brake. There are much better & cheaper fixed blades out there to do this. Thanks DCA. Sharp blades all.
David, I have been looking for a tough folding knife, full flat grind, compatible with food prep and noticed immediately that the flipper tabs, and to some extent the angle of the handle , interferes with using the full length of the blade, even when using a "pinch grip", on a cutting board, for example. Do you have any suggestions for a 4" (approximately) folder in the $100 +/- range that fits those parameters? (I'm left handed, but probably too much to ask? ...ambidextrious hopefully!) Ooh! That most serious question had a most serious answer. I dig it. Now: DCA & Thomas, if you could pick a sub 2-1/2" knife to EDC at an office job, what would each of you pick?
As for the knife-based multitool: Ruike S31. 2.1" 12C27 blade, scissors and a multipurpose tool (bottle opener, belt cutter and flathead screwdriver). Only 1.83oz weight and G10 scales. Only thing it lacks is a clip, but it's more of a keychain knife anyway. That particular one isn't offered by KC though, which is probably why it wouldn't be mentioned.
The Condor Hudson Bay knife is great. I've had one for years, but it is a tad big for some camp tasks. So I recently bought the Mini Hudson Bay knife, makes a great companion knife to the big one. Hugh Glass most likely, before he lost his kit, probably carried Green River knives. These where the knives most chosen by Mountain Men and explorers. As for a Bowie knife. The Wild West Bowie from Cold Steel, would be a good "Big" knife, or the 1849 Rifleman's Knife by Cold Steel. I have the Rifleman's knife, and it pairs nicely with my 1851 Colt revolver.
Hi DCA and team. First of all, thanks for bringing back the passion to an old knife-nerd, I've watched all your videos! And I've got a question for you. Besides just collecting knives I like I also collect knives from different countries. Do you have any suggestions for knives from countries that I might have missed? Like Condor from El Salvador or ANV from the Czech Republic? Preferably folders, I also collect fixed blades but because I live in an urban environment I can't actually carry those... Thanks again for all the info and please keep going!!
DCA! You are my favorite knife content creator out there. I watch a lot of knife UA-cam but you are the most efficient and informative of them all. Thank you! My question is: for 90% of EDC users, blade steel doesn’t really matter. BUT if you could pick one steel and one knife to use every single day for the rest of your life (for EDC), what would it be?
Ok, just got into knife sharpening. Been collecting them and it is time (I feel), to learn how to sharpen them. I've got a range of steels from the 8 Cr's to the 35 SVN's to the 52100's, to name a few... You get what I mean! Which steel would be best for me to start on AND, do I go with a manual, or electric sharpener??? Please, "HELP"!!!
Hi all. I 'm trying to optimi(ni)ze my edc. To keep it short the Benchmade Bailout with the glass breaker✓ tics all the boxes for me. Combat✓ Finger safe✓ Deep carry✓ Bottle opener/pry bar✓ BUT... Price is a big no! Any suggestions without a lot of compromises? Thanks. P.S.: Love the series. You got me into knife collecting! Keep it up.
Hey DCA, Any chance that you could do an episode featuring some of the “sharpened prybar” type folding knives? Maybe include various price points (ie. Schrade up to Sniper Bladeworks) Thanks for the awesome videos!
Hey DCA. Bird hunting season just kicked off around the U.S. I'm looking for a bird and trout knife. Fixed or folder with a blade around d 3" and higher end materials. Anything under $200 for fixed and $300 for a folder.
Hi, I’m looking for an electric knife sharpener and so far I’m hesitating between the Trizor XV and Worksharp’s Multi Sharpener Ken Onion edition. I’m looking for something that can sharpen any blade including bread knives. Which one would you recommend ? Am I missing a better option ( somewhere in that price range)? Thanks in advance!
QUESTION: what’s the best knife for a hiking/camping trip. requirements- fixed blade, lightweight but tough enough for hard use and abuse, steel type isn’t all that important but i would like the edge to stay sharp for at least 3 days of use, and my budget is under 150 usd.
Hi DCA. I have recently started getting into bushcraft and like the look of the condor bushlore. While shopping around I found that condor sell blade blanks of this knife at a much cheaper price. What's the difference?. Is it just scales and sheath? Or is the blade/steel its self different?. Can I buy a blade blank, wrap the tang in paracord and essentially have the same knife? (Technically 4 questions I know. Sorry) Love the show 😁 Thanks in advance
Worth noting, the SwissQlip is NOT compatible with the Victorinox Compact unfortunately, so the only option is a suspension clip or a stick on clip like the NiteIze HipClip.
Hey DCA, how does a detend work ? Is it possible to adjust the detend. I have a Knife, where Iam affraid of, That the knife Could accidently Open in the Pocket. Why is the detent of some knives stronger or weeker. How does it work.? And can i adjust This. Please Show a Flipper with strong and weak detent. Please Show the Giantmouse jutland. Great knife. But is the detent a Little weak?
Hello from Canada. Longtime subscriber, love the content. I’m looking for your recommendations for my 10 year old son’s scouting knives. He’s been using one of my Benchmade 940’s, but I want to get him his own combo of fixed blade and multi-function pocket knife. Some specific criteria are that the blades need to be sub 4”, and he needs a wood saw included. Thanks in advance.
Wish the idiotic bottle-opener-on-tools fad will end. Anybody can open a bottle with some leverage. I always just use my Bic lighter, but just about anything will work. So stupid.
Dustin needs to look into Pre-1840s Rendezvous. They're all over the country, historically accurate encampments. A surprisingly large following. A lot of knowledge can be found there. The magazine American Frontiersman is a fantastic resource. Most mountain men did not carry a huge bowie knife like that. Most of them carried a basic butcher knife (the Old Hickory he shows was the most common style), possibly modified, as they were shipped in bulk out west to be bought at Rendezvous. I'd also add that his assertion that the 5" blade is good for food prep and small game, sounds like he's never skinned a buck before. If you want to brain tan the hide and not butcher it all to hell, you're best skinning will come from a smaller blade, under 5" with a belly on it (like the Kephart). If you're butchering a buffalo or bear and don't have to worry about a thin hide, sure you can skin it with a bowie, but with today's selection of knives, a bowie is a useless novelty. Tyler - Stop being a nancy and teach your kids properly instead of making it taboo. If they're toddlers, simply don't leave it sitting on the damn ground. If they're 5 and older, they're old enough to learn how to properly respect and handle a knife. This pansy ass movement of hiding everything from your children is why accidents happen. Damn city people.
Good Sir, another question please. Do you have any tips for removing coatings on blades in general? Sandpaper takes forever. Any smarter / better ways? Ps: If you suggest any chemical products, can you please specify the ingredients or the active substance? I live in Europe and that product may not be available. M, deepest gratitude good Sir.
Love these videos and will keep watching, BUT I ordered from these guys, got no response for about a week, gave them a call, NONE of the items had been shipped. This was a big order, a couple of items were on back order. They held up the WHOLE shipment for those items. I’ll keep consuming the free content, but I canceled that order and will never place another order with them. Why do companies think stuff like that is okay these days?!
Hi DCA, I SUCK at getting a razor edge on harder blade steels. What do you recommend for sharpening to get that "hair popping" edge on my knives with hard steel that won't destroy the blade if I don't get it perfect the first time? Any help much appreciated! Thanks!
Recently heard about gravity knives and to some degree wonder how good, strong, functional, etc? And if I would consider trying to get one for collection. The particular knife I heard about was a Riate EXO. Haven't done a lot of research and as I watch many of your videos about new knives and customer questions, wondering what you think?
Hello KnifeCenter FAQ and I hope all is well today. I am looking for a knife I am not sure exists. I am looking for a 3.25in (or so) fixed blade EDC that can also be decently good in the woods. That said, I have a couple details that seem to eliminate options. I like a serrated section but not enough to sacrifice the full plain edge as my main edge, and without wanting to baton 3.25 in blade, I would like 2.5in or so serrated on the spine, if that hasn’t made my options 0, I prefer a scandi grind for the main edge. Does such a knife exist? I saw and bought a divers knife that had a serrated side and plain side, but it didn’t have EDC comfort or carry and the steel for the diver knife seemed less suited for EDC and/or woods. Is there anything you are aware of that fits what I’m hoping for?

I'm interested in the Pro-Tech Magic, but my concern is, I'm a lefty. Most knives can be made to work either way. I know Pro-Tech offers some of their Autos in a left hand version. Can the Magic still be carried and used if you are a lefty? Thanks for the great videos.
Hello DCA, love the channel. From my previous posts, I have come to enjoy D2 steel. So far, I have not had any blade corrosion and have appreciated the wear of D2. This may be a dumb question - I have read on many blade forums that D2's edge retention is only as good as it's heat treatment. I also have read that many over seas D2 steel and heat treatment process are subpar- so you think you are getting a bump up in blade steel when actually you aren't. Should one person buy american manufactured d2 knives only and avoid over seas manufacturers D2 steel? Thank you
Hi DCA , and Thomas. I have a question for you am looking for a good general hard use fix blade . Thinking esee 5/6. Is there something you think better in the 250 dollar or less area . Thanks for the work you guys do .
FAQ question: In Spain, you can't carry weapons of any type in public places. But a key chain knife or large multitool is a reason to cary a blade. What is the largest main bladed tool, with a lock that actually looks like a multitool for last ditch defence. Something that can be explained away to the police.
I swear you guys are stalking me. I bought the Old Hickory 5 pack and received it last week. Why don't they have a chef's knife in that set? Is it just because they know we'll buy one afterwards?
Frame locks and liner locks are inherently weaker than back locks or button type. Try throwing one into a tree and see. My son ruined a Gerber in a few throws after I warned him. I told him it wasn't designed for that. My question is what is more important to a person- having a dependable knife or being able to appear cool in your own mind because you can flick it. I like my tools to last so they will for my children. How many people actually use a knife enough to wear it out? Seven years is the shortest time for me, with serious use. Carving walking sticks, canes, handles, etc.
Hi DCA, I have a very serious question. I am dating a pretty girl and want to impress her father. He is the local Circumcisor of the town and I want to learn the craft to impress him. What knife would you suggest for me to start practicing with?
Question. There seem to be a number of sites that sell brand named knives at fraction of the price. How can you tell a knock off from just a heavily discounted knife?
Is there a way to search your page and filter out specific brands? Trying to browse all the knives and see if something catches my eye, but get inundated with Spyderco brand and others. I know I can filter in, but so many brands I don't want to tick every box. There should be an option to select all brands and one can untick them.
Horrace Kephart and Nessmuk and frankly any frontiersman or woods sportsman carried hatchets and axes into the woods. They would also have a multitude of different knife blades on them. Batoning wood with your knife is a fun stress test for youtubers to do on knives cause it looks neat on camera, and it follows those old Cold Steel promo videos tradition of doing absurd things with their knives to sell them, but unless your literally in a life or death situation and you have no other choice to use a knife to baton wood for a fire, you shouldnt be doing it. Thats all there is to it. Spend 20 bucks at a hardware store for a hatchet.
For the bushcrafter with small hands, do you have any recommendations for a larger bushcraft knife (5 inches or over) with a smaller handle? Most large knives have thick handles that can cause fatigue for those with small hands.
I love those Hickory and they are cheap too but I never bought one because of the straight handle I'm concerned my hand could end up on the blade. I know they are historical replicas but wouldn't it be wise to put a little guard in the handle? You were too benign with the guy who splits wood with a Civivi Elementum and then complains he's a ...
As the house kindling splitter up till I was fourteen years old I deny that a knife has any place in firewood preparation at all. A light hatchet and maybe a simple parallel cleaver (we used to call them firewood choppers) are all you need, and they do not need to be razor sharp, file sharp is good enough. If you have to swing a hatchet around enough to endanger your kids, I strongly feel you need to re-examine your choice of wood and where you are working ! PS I started at seven years old and although I cut myself a few times I still have all my fingers and never needed stitches !
Good Sir, I would like to inquire some information in regard or handle shapes. Do they have names like the blades? I am especially interested in handle shapes like the one on the vosteed raccoon. If it is not named yet, shall we henceforth call it a raccoon butt? 😂
The leatherman wave would be good for the first guy, half serated blades are dumb, all the Swiss army knives I've had are very hard to sharpen to a nice edge, I'd buy a a Swiss army knife tomorrow if they came with a carbon steel blade, but they don't, I had a lanyard with a knot on one of my knives it got caught in the top draw in my tool box and I sliced my fingers open, never again would I put a lanyard on a knife, don't use any folders in would preparation unless you are feathering, if he wants to do wood work with a knife that can take a real beating get a timber rattler bowie, cheap and strong,
Hey DCA (and Thomas)! Thanks for making such a great series happen! Question for you: I'm entering the nursing field pretty soon and I am looking for knife that I can carry with me on the floor. I really like what you did to your Swiss Army Knife with the TEC accessories suspension clip! Do you have a swiss-army-knife style multitool that you would recommend that could take the TEC clip, is light-weight (won't pull down scrub pants), has an oxygen wrench, knife, and scissors? Preferably less than $200. Thank you for all you do! (any medical related knife/tools would be greatly recommended as well!)
As for an oxygen wrench, see if there is a Swiss Army knife for divers. I'm not sure though, if the valve on diving tanks is the same as in hospital tanks. Maybe something used by Fire Fighters and EMT's?
Get yourself a pair of XSHEAR's trust me you won't be sorry. They're the absolute best medical shears you can find. Simply amazing. Just be careful everyone will want to borrow them and they may grow legs. $40 on Amazon
I got a question for you next episode my wife works in the hospital and needs a neck knife but doesn't look like a neck knife any thoughts. thanks so much for the videos
Problem with that, is the Indians, used stone knives, until the white man came and traded steel knives for furs. So there really are not any. And yes I have researched this subject, since I've been collecting knives since the early 80's, and went through a period of time I did Mountain Man era hunting.
Hey DCA, I have weakness on the right side of my body that also affects my hand. I’ve tried to become more ambidextrous but was wondering what knifes may be best for someone with weak hands or arthritis. Thanks
Hey DCA, I enjoy a good cross bar lock both for their fidgetability and inherent safety. I do have concerns about the springs used as they seem a tad flimsy. Should I be worried about this or not? I would hate the lock to fail cause that always happens when you need the knife the most.

My compact with suspension clip is the most carried knife in my pocket
Likewise!
I’d suggest an aftermarket sheath on the old hickory outdoor knives. Mine broke at the stitching on the belt loop the first day I wore it out
That pocket clip is absolutely ridiculously priced. I bought a pack of those on Amazon a whole back for more like £0.9 each
I bought some cheap ones and they turned out to be plastic
Keep it up.
Hey DCA,
Any chance that you could do an episode featuring some of the “sharpened prybar” type folding knives? Maybe include various price points (ie. Schrade up to Sniper Bladeworks)
Thanks for the awesome videos!
Sorry)
Love the show 😁
Thanks in advance
Worth noting, the SwissQlip is NOT compatible with the Victorinox Compact unfortunately, so the only option is a suspension clip or a stick on clip like the NiteIze HipClip.
What outdoor lightweight fixed blade would you recommend for backpacking for extended periods of time?
Love to see a video about small knives. Buck 102, Grohman tout and bird, Case Finn, Kabar Finn etc. Thanks
QUESTION: How many cheese knives does Knife Center sell? Do any of them have reverse tanto blade shapes?

Ruike Knives has some good looking SAK competitors I've seen in Amazon but haven't pulled the trigger on any.
Hey DCA! Can you help me find a USA made button lock running on bronze washers? Seems most are bearings, any thoughts?
Does a long pointy blade like a spyderco native chief make a wharnckiffe redundant? It almost has less belly than some "modified wharncliffes".
If the blade snaps in half chances are it's a knock off
@@LostBeagle I wish it were that simple.
Stick with authorized dealers -DCA
Is there a way to search your page and filter out specific brands? Trying to browse all the knives and see if something catches my eye, but get inundated with Spyderco brand and others. I know I can filter in, but so many brands I don't want to tick every box. There should be an option to select all brands and one can untick them.
So. Would you stack one of those Damascus blade up against say a nice thick piece of HC bladestock for durability?
LOVE! my hudson bay from condor. My companion is a mora 2000 but that is not a period piece.
I'm looking for a sharp piece of metal with a handle and a point. Any suggestions?
Good Sir, I would like to inquire some information in regard or handle shapes. Do they have names like the blades? I am especially interested in handle shapes like the one on the vosteed raccoon. If it is not named yet, shall we henceforth call it a raccoon butt? 😂
Knife center not sell J Russel and co green river knifes? I got a few. I got 1 from 1890s thats still pretty knice
I use a tech accessories suspension clip on my Range Boss 2 from CS and it works really well for that 4 inch blade
Hey DCA, let's do a Beat The Icon for a Cold Steel American Lawman
The leatherman wave would be good for the first guy, half serated blades are dumb, all the Swiss army knives I've had are very hard to sharpen to a nice edge, I'd buy a a Swiss army knife tomorrow if they came with a carbon steel blade, but they don't, I had a lanyard with a knot on one of my knives it got caught in the top draw in my tool box and I sliced my fingers open, never again would I put a lanyard on a knife, don't use any folders in would preparation unless you are feathering, if he wants to do wood work with a knife that can take a real beating get a timber rattler bowie, cheap and strong,
Those were very appropriate noises for that mall ninja special. The gestures were as Vanna White as you could get!
Hi DCA and crew. If you were to go on the show Alone, what tools and knives would you bring?
The only folding fix blade on the market is a cold steel 4 max and 4 max scout. Great with batoning.
I think the weeds were necessary for someone using a light folder to chop. Maybe should suggest a cork on the tip for safety.
If the James Brand was made in the USA or Switzerland it would be a good choice for me
Love all of these knives and your suggestions for safety. Huge +. Thoroughly enjoy these videos.
I got a question for you next episode my wife works in the hospital and needs a neck knife but doesn't look like a neck knife any thoughts. thanks so much for the videos
I would like to know what knife would you like to see remade as a button lock I would like to see the kizer mini roach or the Spyderco shaman
Hey DCA! Great content, as always.
I'd like to see some cutlery with Native American influence, flair, origin, persuasion....all of the above
Problem with that, is the Indians, used stone knives, until the white man came and traded steel knives for furs. So there really are not any. And yes I have researched this subject, since I've been collecting knives since the early 80's, and went through a period of time I did Mountain Man era hunting.
@@longrider42 so post-1620 blades🙄
Hey DCA, I have weakness on the right side of my body that also affects my hand. I’ve tried to become more ambidextrous but was wondering what knifes may be best for someone with weak hands or arthritis. Thanks
If you like Frontier knives check out North River custom knives, they are handmade hand forged really nice.
For the smaller outdoorsy 1800s knife, what about the Condor Mini Hudson Bay?
That last knife is alien butt ugly. Was it supposed to be a karambit? I've seen beautiful karambits but never one like that.
I freakin love my strelit. Best fifth pocket carry knife that I own.
What do you think of the pocket brick, the crkt Crawford Casper for a hard use knife??
Theres an add on pocket clip for the Gerber armbar. If it's a deal breaker you can add one.👍
Hey DCA, I enjoy a good cross bar lock both for their fidgetability and inherent safety. I do have concerns about the springs used as they seem a tad flimsy. Should I be worried about this or not? I would hate the lock to fail cause that always happens when you need the knife the most.
But way I though civivi was the knife of all knifes and the best thing ever 🤣
True wisdom; get yourself a Hudson Bay 🗡️
