It's always fun to watch people go from "I'm not an artist" to "Wait, when did I become an artist???" It's just an inevitable when you do art that you become an artist. Also, it's very fun to watch people change and iterate on the designs they've made.
I honestly don’t do art enough. I commission a lot but I also want to make more designs

god you are so right about the communication parts of science reports. As someone with ADHD, I really struggle to read texts written in the passive voice. Its so boring it makes it so insanely difficult for me to focus or just simply comprehend words that i've read. As a student, being someone who has to take about 30 minutes to read just the abstract of a report, doing work is way more difficult for me than it should be. If papers were written in a way that was meant to be readable, id be much more functional.

You managed to turn "toss out my cringe old art" into a "lessons learned/process" video. As well, you showed how you managed to break out of a more Pokemony style to start becoming a unique Stema style

A possible idea if you were to redesign the snails... make them based on the sin, cos, and tan waves, with the design referring to how they act at 0... or on the range from [-π, π] ... you could possibly even make a reference to how tan is sin over cos in the final design (possibly by having the sin shell sit on top of the cos shell? Idk)

What i find most funny is that none of these old designs are even necessarily bad. Its just that the new stuff is even better

Old Minter isn't THAT bad, but I get that it might look like those "human-like" mons that show up in weird places.
That thumbnail reminds me of that one SpongeBob scene where SpongeBob is in the toilet.

One of my projects is a proof of concept that reusing the same zoological inspirations for multiple collectible/trainable creatures within a single project isn't a doomed prospect, a game where literally every thing you can get is based on a fox in some way. Some are based on mythical foxes like the kitsune, some are based on uncommonly talked about fox species like the cape fox and cross fox, some are based on idioms like the "foxy lady" fitting your obligatory feminine humanoid slot, some based on wordplay like a bat (flying fox), red squirrel (fox mouse), and red panda (fire fox). I'm determined to make it work even though I'm not as passionate about foxes as I am about rodents or mustelids, I just like them quite a bit.
Honestly, a flatworm that can fold into a cube is a pretty fun idea!

Your growth in art over the last few years is one of the reasons I've decided to get back into drawing after giving up.
I think a fun way to do a pseudo-science mon would be mimiku like mon or even ditto or zorua that could pretend to be a actual topic/other mon. Anyway cant wait to see where this project goes and congrats on 100k!

The grass starter and its concept is a masterpiece and could be a legit pokémon
The new Chippu is a huge improvement; I was never big on the old one, and the ears were a big part of why.
Looking forward to whatever that therizinosaur is; huge dino nerd, & it's already one of my favorite STEMA designs.
Honestly this video is so inspiring for my art, I’ve been seriously struggling with keeping up with it alongside things like high school and gender identity exploration, but this video helps me see that those feelings of “god this design sucked, I just want to completely replace it” is normal.
You inspired me to make my own creature collector, being focused more on mythos and fantasy rather than STEM concepts, so things like my types are named in things like Greek or Latin (Ignis, Aqua, Silva, etc.) and my designs will be concepts from things like alchemy, mythology, and stuff commonly found in fantasy and maybe religion, not sure on the last one. My Silva/Grass starter is gonna be a kitsune or inu, minorly inspired by Ōkami alongside the fantasy concept of a sentient and raging forest, but every time I draw it, it looks meh and like I wasn’t able to make it look like a starter or like the concepts in question or too much literally like the concepts. It really helps to see that it’s expected to go through several attempts at a design, especially an important one like a starter.

Honestly the ornaith comcept sounds really cool, imagine a region where you get only one normal type starter but depending our there moves our evs they can evolve into a different middle evolution gaining the fire, grass our water type and for the final evolution they could each chose a secondary type

Tbh Tuchlea would be the first ever Fire-starter I would even consider using
Some random thing, with my own pokemon like creatures. Ive made plenty. Like over 200 (i could seriously make my own region). But i started back when I was in grade 3 so the mons looked really bad and had terrible names but I kept using the same group of mons, over and over. Improving my art over the years while keeping to the original ideas. The stupid thing is that the names are the exact same. (THE FIRE STARTER WAS NAMED "FLAME'EM" AND WAS JUST A FIREBALL WITH A TAIL AND TINY STUB LEGS. Tho it looks really dope now).

i used to plan making a rhythm game, which i abandoned because i couldn't get enough level ideas.
maybe i _can_ make that game someday because this video inspired me to try a new approach for coming up with level ideas:
instead of trying to fit my levels around random cartoon scenarios i could base my levels on music theory concepts and create the cartoon afterwards - maybe with each level's description having an "inspirations" tab that lists or explains the level's most important inspirations.
this doesn't mean i _will_ get enough level ideas but now i have a place to look 🙂

Ok. Here's my own art story.
So anyways, my fursona (a fox/phoenix/galah hybrid) went through multiple revisions until she became what she is today. My fursona wasn't even this 3 animal hybrid mythical creature at the start. She was various animals such as a chicken, alicorn (because MLP) and purely a phoenix. In 2017 and 2018 she was Pokemon specieses like a Latias, Heliolisk and Latias/Lunala hybrid. The species of my fursona was finalised in 2019 when I learnt that galahs existed. However, her design wasn't finished yet. It went through lots of revisions. One that I want to talk about is about some skill issue. The proportions on one version (more specifically one made in 2020) were horrendous! The limbs were too short and the body was too long! This wasn't my fault as I followed a proportions guide a little bit too hard and didn't notice until 2021. Artwork of her final design with proper proportions was made in 2022. However, I noticed these off proportions in 2021 but didn't create the art until 2022 and used the horrible proportions version as a placeholder. Also don't forget my character has a protogen form and she used to have wings! Wings are illegal on protogens without consent. I tried to justify it but it was still breaking the protogen rules so I redesigned her in 2023 so she could have a jetpack to fly with instead.

One thing I noticed about your water starter is the fact that the feet of the first two stages feel not connectedness the body. Maybe it would be possible to add the kind of feed design of the last stage of the water starter?

Now that I’m thinking about it, not that I haven’t ever before thought about it, I want to be an artist but I haven’t even figured out my own grounds; I haven’t found what would make my so-called art better. I’ve, truly, found nothing so far.
Thinking about it, I might just change my profile picture as well, as I’m currently kind of inspired to try something more… unique than just my Roblox avatar’s head. You know what, I’ll try. I’ll try and see what I think may suit me well.
Maybe I’ll change my username, too, since there’s no real inspiration behind it… not anymore, anyways.
I mean, I could start with pencil and paper, getting the concept right first before actually doing it…
But, wait, don’t I need a point of reference, an idea, a deeper meaning behind it?
And how exactly am I supposed to turn something, that is just a concept made up of words, into qualities of a creature/character/etc.’s design?
And aren’t there principles I need to follow? Certain rules or things?
Why am I bothered by any of this? I should just try a design, just a simple shape, a simple idea. I have to start off small.

Ahh,,, ,,m,,.. the Conet... part entirely, was AGONIZING for me.
The trumpet VST playing through the entire section was piercing for my ears, just absolutely painful
and also, there is SO MUCH math in music. I have no clue how you would integrate it for a fakemon, but music is simply ratios. look into microtonality (xenharmonic wiki might be a source)- if you want to peer more into the abyss of ways to attempt to approximate those ratios, with people using matrices and geometries and the zeta function as they obsess with prime numbers.

Having a ditto pseudoscience mon sounds fun. Or more like zoroark. Like it may look like anything but in battle its pretty weak.
While they redesigns look amazing, make sure you don't get stuck in development hell. Good talk on the art part. There's still a ways to go when it comes to incorporating art in stem, but it's at least acknowledged now. I pretty much guessed you were a chem major as well because of how you approach the sciences. It's a field that demands a lot of abstraction for the sake of understanding.

Hey there! I’ve been watching you for a bit and I’ve noticed that I prefer your lineless style much for than the Pokemon replica style. Your designs don’t really conform to Pokemon either so I think it would be awesome if you leaned into more of the lineless with your eventual game. They look great! Keep it up!
