Speaking for myself as an artist who has drawn Sonic art for over 13 years, I think your video has so much helpful advice ❤️🩹 And you explain and share advice in a very kind way that is way more thoughtful than I have seen others who are more brash and like "you MUST do it like this!" then genuinely offering suggestions to help broaden one's skills. I very much agree about getting experimental with the poses. I know drawing the heads on any of the characters is hard, Sonic and Shadow especially. But once you begin to understand the characters' design at more angles, the possibilities are endless ✨️ Thank you very kindly for taking the time to create this video. Definitely will be sharing ❤️🩹✨️ Hope you have a great day. Keep up the great creating. Please take care ❤️🩹
@@shadamyartist2654 Thank you so much 🥹 I always try to do that when I make tutorials; make it clear that there’s no wrong way to draw something. You don’t HAVE to use these tips, but they may help helpful if you’re trying to improve and get better. Thank you for sharing! I really appreciate it ❤️
@jcr3ative you are most welcome 👏❤️🩹 It's definitely refreshing to see other artists share advice and art-creating suggestions like this. And especially without the feeling of being pressured into anything.
This is seriously too accurate. It’s not even just Sonic, it’s just everything in general. I know that I’m a good artist, but I know that I could always go higher, better than before. These are great tips, and I’ll be definitely using them. Thank you. Also, you’re seriously criminally underrated for how high quality this video is. You 100% deserve more subscribers
Love how encouraging this video is!! I got into Sonic art 2 years ago, and I agree with a lot of this! I do have a small note about studying Uekawa's style though - his style is AWESOME to study and reference, but for beginner artists, I highly recommend trying to get a better grasp of mobian anatomy & perspective first, if not while you're studying his style. Uekawa's style is super heavy on foreshortening and exaggeration (a huge reason it looks so cool!) so it can throw folks off if they don't quite get the "context" of a pose, and simply try to replicate it rather than understanding *why* and *how* things are foreshortened. Anywho, again, great video & good tips :)
The intro is way too accurate for me, how did you know how I feel? 😭😆 Thank you for the advice, great video!! I'm defintely gonna use your tips for my next drawings 👍

This is very accurate! I learned a LOT of these things along my art journey and I used to suck but now I’m a lot better and I’m proud of all my work! Great work Jake, amazing video! Keep it up! ❤
Ngl this is somehow so relatable for cuz I dont know why but I'd new get how people draws Mobians(sonic Characters and other) like bro they look so fresh and better than my best works of human arts, and I've kinda thinking make oc or even series in Sonic universe so thank you:)
I found sketching very loosely and just overall using a lot of curves can make sonic characters look very dynamic, personally I like to draw them with more taller exaggerated proportions like the riders artstyle and I find it makes for some pretty cool poses Also tip for anyone having a hard time finding references of official art, the Sonic Retro Wiki has an artwork category of thousands of official art and renders
This helped me a lot! I usually draw sonic on paper but this still helped me out drawing my characters even better my poses and my random drawings of sonic better and now I think I can do this as a hobby now! Thanks for the help.
I can remember the time when I only drew my Sonic OC’s head considering it wasn’t the best work I’ve done because I’m not an artist when it comes to drawing OC’s or Sonic characters in general. I am however an artist on producing music so that’s something. XD

hey thank u lots for this!!! ive been getting back into the sonic fandom in the past few weeks and have been using sonic characters to experiment more w my art :3 its already helping me improve a TONNN and i needed this video lol . def subbed btw ur channel is so underrated man
This helped a lot! Last week I was getting frustrated that my sonic art wasn’t improving. I would keep drawing the same 3/4 angle each time because that was what I found familiar. When I tried emulating different styles (junio, adventure, etc.) I would just use that same 3/4 pose every time and it, in my opinion, was limiting the flexibility of those styles.
this is an amazing video Ive been drawing sonic sense i was in the late 2nd grade early 3rd i used to enjoy drawing sonic but nowadays i would look at my drawing and think they are generic bu this video helped me realize that my drawings weren't bad i just wasn't exploring different poses, shading, and angles. Minute 0:55 was my backstory😂 But i really hope I can now improve my art as recently I've not been really happy with it, I'll put these tips to the test 😃👍
1:54 90% of my Sonic art is in the 45 degree angle pose, but now I'm trying to make the pose more dynamic, in my most recent drawing showing my new art style I made Sonic putting one arm back and the other arm forward, the fingers of the arm that is forward are curling, and Sonic is doing the "eyes from the Sonic CD opening", if you didn't understand what I meant I'll explain it as "The Rock's eyebrows"
Why are you calling me out right now; let me draw my Shadamy art in peace! Jk jk that was a good video I have been getting back into Sonic art (with my Hazbin stuff) and I definitely just stick to the front, side, and 3/4 view. I’m just now remembering I can apply my Husk (cat character) knowledge but actually moving Sonic characters’ ears like animals for more expressions! I will definitely use some of this information for future pieces. Thank you! Now back to Shadamy art lol
2:00 You know after you said that I was looking at my art and I realized oh yeah, you're right. Yeah you're completely right. That is a 45 ° angle pose, yeah you're not wrong in the slightest. You are actually dead on correct yeah.
When you draw Sonic, you gotta remember he is a cool edgy hedgehog, make him to cool poses, that’s why SA1 and SA2 are so cool, because it shows how cool and edgy they are,
Feel extremely called out by the first part lmao - but do you know to actually make abstract backgrounds because I wanted to use them for a while but had no clue , anyway great video
