Speaking for myself as an artist who has drawn Sonic art for over 13 years, I think your video has so much helpful advice ❤️🩹 And you explain and share advice in a very kind way that is way more thoughtful than I have seen others who are more brash and like "you MUST do it like this!" then genuinely offering suggestions to help broaden one's skills. I very much agree about getting experimental with the poses. I know drawing the heads on any of the characters is hard, Sonic and Shadow especially. But once you begin to understand the characters' design at more angles, the possibilities are endless ✨️ Thank you very kindly for taking the time to create this video. Definitely will be sharing ❤️🩹✨️ Hope you have a great day. Keep up the great creating. Please take care ❤️🩹

I found sketching very loosely and just overall using a lot of curves can make sonic characters look very dynamic, personally I like to draw them with more taller exaggerated proportions like the riders artstyle and I find it makes for some pretty cool poses Also tip for anyone having a hard time finding references of official art, the Sonic Retro Wiki has an artwork category of thousands of official art and renders

I've had two Sonic the Hedgehog phases through my life so far (I think I'm entering a third HELP) and my art, it seems, is getting better and better. I had these fat drawings in the past, but I think my drawings are becoming much better, and with this video, I'm sure it will boost me by a lot. Thank you for posting this!! Love how encouraging this video is!! I got into Sonic art 2 years ago, and I agree with a lot of this! I do have a small note about studying Uekawa's style though - his style is AWESOME to study and reference, but for beginner artists, I highly recommend trying to get a better grasp of mobian anatomy & perspective first, if not while you're studying his style. Uekawa's style is super heavy on foreshortening and exaggeration (a huge reason it looks so cool!) so it can throw folks off if they don't quite get the "context" of a pose, and simply try to replicate it rather than understanding *why* and *how* things are foreshortened. Anywho, again, great video & good tips :)
recently I've been able to remaster my classic sonic design with new techniques and new inspirations and oh boy is it great in my opinion. I honestly agree with all the tips said on the video as they have REALLY have worked for me, especially the "leave your comfort pose and draw in different angles" and one thing I suggest to anyone reading is also to "build" your character with basic shapes and have a general silhouette of it and then add the details, as it can be overwhelming to draw everything at once, and it also helps understanding how different sonic designs do look different. The only thing I think I'll have to improve on is drawing backgrounds (I'm basically drawing none and I'm avoiding it a lot lol)
this is an amazing video Ive been drawing sonic sense i was in the late 2nd grade early 3rd i used to enjoy drawing sonic but nowadays i would look at my drawing and think they are generic bu this video helped me realize that my drawings weren't bad i just wasn't exploring different poses, shading, and angles. That intro hit way too close to home. I have a bad habit of comparing my art to other artists and it always leads to me thinking my art sucks. Great video over all 👍🏼
This helped a lot! Last week I was getting frustrated that my sonic art wasn’t improving. I would keep drawing the same 3/4 angle each time because that was what I found familiar. When I tried emulating different styles (junio, adventure, etc.) I would just use that same 3/4 pose every time and it, in my opinion, was limiting the flexibility of those styles.
Man, that first minute hit to close to home lol😆Amazing video dude! You gave some great tips, really learned a lot from you! Definitely have to work on my perspective and backgrounds. Keep up the great work!
Why are you calling me out right now; let me draw my Shadamy art in peace! Jk jk that was a good video I have been getting back into Sonic art (with my Hazbin stuff) and I definitely just stick to the front, side, and 3/4 view. I’m just now remembering I can apply my Husk (cat character) knowledge but actually moving Sonic characters’ ears like animals for more expressions! I will definitely use some of this information for future pieces. Thank you! Now back to Shadamy art lol
1:54 90% of my Sonic art is in the 45 degree angle pose, but now I'm trying to make the pose more dynamic, in my most recent drawing showing my new art style I made Sonic putting one arm back and the other arm forward, the fingers of the arm that is forward are curling, and Sonic is doing the "eyes from the Sonic CD opening", if you didn't understand what I meant I'll explain it as "The Rock's eyebrows"
While I dont consider myself anything close to amazing, I do like these tips a lot. Before watching this I had been experimenting with posing sonic in unique, dynamic poses which I really like doing, though I only tend to sketch, I dont usually color my drawings cuz I think they end up looking worse (I could try but its mainly cuz im so bad at shading) and I dont have a good enough device to really do digital art on (My phone works but its not the greatest). Thanks for the tips man.
This is exactly how my sonic art is... Like I wanna make a manga of sonic that is compiled of a sonic multiverse with the combination of other realities such as DC and etc. And then I see some random art that completely makes my art look like baby art.

Speaking of shading, what is your opinion on Sonic Riders' Bold Cel Shading technique? I absolutely ADORE it! But I'm afraid it could end up feeling like the sun directly is in front of the character's face sometimes. I loved how it was used in the Anime intro of the game though, and I think it could become extra bold when used in dramatic scenes. Though I would love to know how you'd use it if you were me practicing it, would you go nuts with it even when the scene is supposed to be chill and low-stakes? I would love to know what you think of it. Thanks for the vid, really appreciate your advice as they're really helpful✨
