Our living, dining, and kitchen area is completely blanketed in gritty dirt/dust. Plumbers jackhammering floors up to replace broken pipes. Our big living area rug needs a good deep cleaning. I was looking at estimates by professionals, when I remembered any “how to” can be found on UA-cam. I found your channel and loved this. I’ve already ordered the stuff from Amazon. I may be 70, but I’m still very handy at tackling just about anything. Thank you for showing me how to do this! Wish you success on your channel. I’m now subscribed!

Good job. Next time remember to also clean the back side of the rug as well, otherwise, that dirt will rise to the top of the rug over time. Beautiful rug!

We took all of our area rugs to our local self-service car wash and used their high pressure sprayers to wash and rinse them. Worked like a charm. 👍🏾
Great idea!! Love it and thanks for sharing!
how do you get them home all wet?
@@tarynmarie34 That's what I was wondering. I wait for a super rainy day in the summer and first let the area rug soak up all that nice soft rainwater. Then I mix a little javex, warm water with my fav laundry detergent and I have a hard bristle broom that I clean my carpeted porch stairs with, and keep on sweeping the rug until clean, then if it doesn't continue raining, only then do I take the hose. I have been doing that for years and its works good. Then I get help and place the rug over the railing on my back deck. A day of very warm sunshine and the rugs is dry.
@maureenvalley7722 Sounds like you do an amazing job!! 🤩
haha awww what a cute little puppy 😍
Haha, yes… She’s a cutie 🥰 Thank you 🙏🏼

Great tip
Thank you! Appreciate you!
Nice!!!!
Thanks 🙂
Love this!!!! Would you do this with a second-hand rug as well???
I would, unless the integrity of the rug is compromised or it is flimsy.
Your dog is super cute!😊 Also great video! A quick tip: if you have dogs like mine that sometimes pee in carpets, to remove odors sodium bicarbonate is a good odor neutralizer you can sprinkle a bit in the 'washing cycle" along the shampoo...
Haha!! I love her 🥰🐩 Thank you for the additional information. Good to know!!!
Is that baking soda??
@@DeeliteeYes, baking soda, is exellent for eliminating smells in many places, even in the fridge
I have a 14 inch x 24 feet long hallway runner rug that needs cleaning bad, I'm going to try this but use my pressure washer.
@Dark Toad One I hadn’t thought of doing that. Please let me know how it turns out!
can you put a tarp or something under the rug when washing the rug on a driveway?
It wouldn’t hurt to try it that way! It wouldn’t have worked for my place because of the incline on my driveway would probably make it hard for the rug to stay in place for me to clean it but I can see how it would work in a area without an incline. ☺️
Can you also use a wet vac to try the rug?
Sure! That could help to remove the excess moisture 👍🏼
How did you lift over the rug over the rug?
My husband helped me put it up over the fence. It’s definitely heavier when it’s wet 🤪😉
My rug really needs it but I don't have one of those cool scrubber squeegee things.
If you have a scrubber brush on a stick that might work. I purchased my squeegee thingy on Amazon 🤪
can you do this if spot clean only?
This is not really a spot cleaning approach
I have a carpet cleaner, would this not be recommend on a polypropylene rug?
I'm also in the UK and tried searching for a metal squeeze. I only have a rubber one, so I'm unsure if that's suitable.
I used a rubber squeegee
That would be fine, this is just a deep clean 🙂
can you do this with a wool rug?
Yes, wool rugs can be washed like this. However, wool rugs tend to hold moisture more and take longer to dry out because it is tightly woven. For this reason, the experts say it’s better to wait for a moderately warm and full sun day and start early in the day to allow extra time for drying. The sun will act a a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. Also, if you have a tarp, you could put it under the carpet to provide extra protection. When you are done with the wash/rinse process, you could try to elevate it and put a fan on it. Be sure to check that the solution you use is made for cleaning wool rugs.
this is so helpful - thank you! @@TammysHomeTips
Can we put the rug in the washing machine ?
There are machine washable rugs but I your rug is like ours, it won’t fit and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Lucky husband.
I’ll let him know 😉
She barely used any detergent also cleaning every 2 to 3 months is better than once a year
I used plenty of product but cleaning more often would be great 😉
Your rug is hardly dirty tbh. So not that hard to clean it at home.
Yes, it wasn’t that dirty but this is the basic method for cleaning. May have to get your rug professionally cleaned if it’s super duper dirty 🫣
Just use a rug doctor........
Thank you for your comment 🙂 Just that not everyone has a rug doctor and this is an inexpensive way of cleaning it, but I certainly appreciate the sentiment and that is a very good option 👍🏼🙌🏼
