Since you are being reasonable (unlike most YT commenters) I'll explain. First, given the situation it really didn't take an unreasonable amount of time, especially considering these are volunteers. Next, there was no rescue profile (per PD and visual indicators) as this was a heavily involved house, so trying to do a quick-attack with tank water on such a fuel load is going to be relatively pointless. They instead chose to do a reverse-lay to the hydrant with an attack line and drop a LDH supply line as well, this takes time and means the Engine cannot pump until it is parked. Doing so means they can start to work the fire while tapping the hydrant to feed the Truck and next in Engine, which will now have better access due to the first Engine moving to the hydrant. A reverse-lay will add a bit of time to first water (meaningless as it was already non-survivable and a loss) but it will allow for a better overall fight in that it provides access to more volume faster. Look at it this way... If the first in had went for a quick attack they would have emptied their tank before making significant progress on such an advanced fire load, then have to wait to either hand-jack a supply line or have another Engine arrive and then lay in. I am watching from Elmira NY we have big structure fires like that up here but Elmira fire department gets them under control quickly with help from the West Elmira volunteer fire department
Why does it take so long to turn on the engine tank pressure to the hose? They could have at least saved the car in front. The structure was basically a total loss before they arrived IMHO. I've seen many FF videos and long delays in charging the hoses seems to be a common issue. Some departments do it in less than a minute, others seem to take forever. Why? Three minutes into the video before there is water on the fire. Also why not deploy the deck gun for a quick 20 second blast? If they don't have a deck gun, why not? Seems like a great tool for certain situations. My intent is not to be disrespectful of firefighters, I respect and appreciate them. But all of us in life can learn from critique, reflection and self improvement. I think after each fire call, departments should (if not doing this), have a short meeting to discuss what went well and what can be improved.
First, given the situation it really didn't take an unreasonable amount of time, especially considering these are volunteers. If the first in had went for a quick attack they would have emptied their tank before making significant progress on such an advanced fire load, then have to wait to either hand-jack a supply line or have another Engine arrive and then lay in. That applies to using a Deck Gun as well, in fact DG's are less effective in that they cannot be maneuvered the way hand-lines can, thus they are less effective for most situations. People who shout "Deck Gun!" are people who have never used one, but they think it makes them sound cool because they heard someone on YouBoob say it. I think fully involved might be a bit of an understatement here boys
In Europe water would have flowed within 20 seconds of arrival from initial 2 lines, then further 2 lines before the US could put water on with one.
All very good questions… biggest questions. When time after time these vollies screw up, why do the towns not do anything about it?
POOR training and leadership. On a normal fire, it shouldn't take more than a minute to charge a line.
This was a perfectly reasonable job, especially considering these are volunteers.

The fire depts at the jersey shore need more professional Training, or just make one big paid department , NJ has the highest taxes on the planet, they can afford it.
EXACTLY!!!
Not all but some definitely. Brick has three fire districts. Two are relatively competent. This is the same company who had a firefighter catch fire a few videos back and no charged line.
@@thomasbolcar8019 I believe that was because of a leaking fuel cap on a saw. Hard to say if that was because someone failed to tighten it properly, or it was cracked. That's a pretty rare occurrence.
agreed -Monmouth county had more than 50 aerials at one time -yet few paid departments
My neighbor told me a story as a volunteer firefighter. House burned up child in attic couldn't get to her because ladder truck out for repairs or this poorer town didn't have the revenue to immediately repair. The wealthier township that surrounded didn't respond in time to save the girl. Tragedy. We need county wide FD and as far as I am concerned county police and schools like Virginia. Volunteer firefighters will still have a role though. To much government
Ahhhh water, more pressure, another line, 2 1/2 anything. Why is this town always on fire? Why in alot of these videos does the fire get worse when the fire department show up?
yet again a 3 whole minuites after arrival before the first drop of water is put on that fire why are they so slow surely water in the engine could be used whilst connecting the hoses up to the hydrent

The first minute of this hurt to watch… it doesn’t matter that it’s already a loss, our job is to get there and out it out as fast and safe as possible, especially when you have an exposure right there on the b side…. Where is the fucking water? 1 3/4?! Sheesh

Great video and good job firefighters! Thank goodness no one was injured. Y’all catch a lot of heat, literally and figuratively, and much of it is unwarranted. Alot of house fires in brick 😮
Holy 💩 that whole house is covered in fire i don't think there is much left to even try to get it out
Fully involved, and they're F'n around with their packs, WOW
That makes sense as I was listening to the firefighter a day or two after and he was upset. It was a walk up attic Victorian she was at the window and the house was ablaze. He quit
Deck gun would have been good to start. Woukdbt you want that first 1 3/4 line to the left of the driveway to protect the exposures over there? I mean the house is already a total loss and they can prevent loss of the vehicles and the next doir structure.

As it was fully involved and have a tower ladder as first due truck company why deploy it during overhaul and not during fire attack? Now notice i didn't say initial attack but as soon as a positive water supply was established why not use it? I vas a vol for 2 years & everyone lived like within a mile or 2 from the fire house so our response time from time of dispatch to first unit responding was 5 min (for us that was good, but that was back in 2000 things have changed since i left)
You are clueless and part of the problem
Put water go to the dead of the fire not the flames. And bottom up. Maximize the use of steam.
BIG FIRE BIG WATER, use the BIG gun on top of the Eng, that turret would have knock 90% of that red stuff down, and not a 1.75 ether, you need 2.5 for that kind of fire.. Oh, and yes tank to pump. 33+ in the fire service and I still don't know why some Dept. don't even think about the deck gun, it just boggles my mind, if there was ever a time to use it, it was on this one!
❤
How did that spread so quickly unbelievable
Guess all the critics on here missed that quick knockdown of the exterior by the single line.
😂😂😂
As an incident commander, pulling up to this, first words is O SHIT
you can hear the one guy at the 2 minute mark yelling wheres the water, 1st line charged at 2:33 i mean once he had water he did a bang up job of getting a knock down on the front, and in reference to the hand ladders one of the 23's LT told Bobby start throwing ladders, start working no other direction lol, I mean the fire was self venting pretty well at that point and guranteed that roof was soft so pointless to work the roof safely, i mean for this department i have seen much worse in the past, they had a good initial knockdown on the exterior in 7 minutes, so are they actually having the first or second due engine actually lay a supply from the hydrant besides hand jacking one after the fact?
Wow, why waste time pulling a hand line? This can only be fought with master streams.
