Bro I would say, try to go for M1 16GB, not M2 8GB/256GB. I heard a lot that 256GB SSD is way slower than M1, there have been numbers that proved the point.
So i would say go for M1 16/512, if you want M2 then go for 16/512 again. You can even go for 8/512GB for M2.
It's your choice.

EVERY ONE IS TALKING ABOUT BATTERY BACKUP ..HOW TO DO SO OR THAT ... BUT NO BODY IS CONSIDERING ITS COMPATIBILITY WITH PRINTERS. SINCE THERE ARE MANY PRINTERS WHICH CAN BE CONNECTED WITH MACOS BUT THERE IS LIMITED CONNECTIVITY LIKE ABOUT 99% OF PRINTERS ARE NOT CONFIGURABLE WITH MACOS REGARDING THEIR SETTINGS OF PRINTING LIKE TO PRINT DARK OR PRINT IN ECONOMY ETC. I AM MENTIONING PRINTERS WHICH ARE NOT OLD . LASERJET MFP M438NDA, EPSON L565 ETC. SO MAC IS GOOD TILL IT IS TO DESIGN PHOTO VIDEO ETC BUT NOT FOR OFFICE WORK. ONE HAS TO FOLLOW MANY PROCESS TO GET A SIMPLE OUTPUT. IF ONE WANTS TO PRINT WORD FILE OR ANY OTHER FILE AS IMAGE THEN THERE IS NOT A SINGLE WAY.
I haven’t had huge issues with printing, most printers i have used work without any issues with mac!

Thinking of buying MBA M2 16/512. I can get it from US (21K INR price difference) from a friend returning to India. Should I pay the extra bucks and get it from India itself?? For the pin change I was planning to use the Apple travel adapter. Need suggestions!
You can get it from USA, no issue in that. Just till him to give you the original invoice.
Regarding adapter even us adapters work in india if you have the right extension board. You can easily get it on amazon!

Go m2 16 gb ram . Storage you can buy external ssd which is like 8-9k for 1 tb.
You will need more ram for multitasking which you can’t upgrade later!
Plus 16 gb ram will future proof you!

To be honest the Productivity which this laptop gives under a 1lakh is nowhere near to Windows under 1lakh and 8gb is more then enough for medium level use thoo even HP 16gb ram laptops can't beat this so

And final cut pro can run multiple 4k layers without lag and motion is so smooth no worries at all and battery no matter how much u use hard it will easily gives u more then 6Hours guaranteed so
I agree to a lot of stuff you said, but a couple of points i beg to differ to.
Multiple 4k timelines on fcp does cause throttling mostly because of fan-less system and 8gb ram.
Also a lot of multitasking on 8gb variant puts some load on the system.
But for light to medium users, this definitely worth the money!

The charger that comes with it is 35 watt. Takes around 2 and half hours to charge fully.
If you buy a larger brick from apple the fast charging till 80 percent improves a lot.
Waste of money if you want to buy 16/512 in M2 Air this laptop is for normal user not not professional editors it's better to go for Pro models if you have that much
Macbook pro is definitely better for professional editors, but for some people even 10-15 k extra is a lot. For them i advice if macbook air is your option at least go for 16 gb ram.

Really depends on personal preference, macbooks don’t get slow and last for 5-7 years plus if you have a iphone they work together beautifully!
But if on budget windows options are very good specially for students
