After a season of use in a pair of Hawks I agree the Indie Ridge boots are super comfortable and waterproof. But there are a few things that need improvement.... 1. My Hawks were supposed to be black but they are a dark brown like the Mohawk(Even through Steve insisted they the right color...they are not). 2. Motorcycle boots need a side zipper, getting in and out of the Indie Ridge boots is a PITA. I'll wear my old TCX boots if I'm planning to change during the ride for something, like riding to work. 3. Indie Ridge needs a higher cuffed boot, its safer and stays under the pants better.
All valid feedback. 1. The Mohawk is called a "Tea Black" leather, which is an almost black top finished, but drum dyed as a brown. Also, I'm SLIGHTLY (ok moderately) colorblind, so everyone into my office and I ask them: "Is this color an accurate representation of what we sell?" 2. Totally agree about side zippers. But you're essentially cutting a straight line down the medial side of the boot top to bottom, so there's a lot to consider (for waterproofing, safety, integrity, etc, plus it's just one more thing that can break). But I've definitely gotten enough requests for it, so I've already starting working on it. 3. I think's valid. So, I can't officially announce our EN 13634:2017 CE Results for all our foots because the lab still needs to approve the "CE Booklet" I'm going to include in every box, but the results have been in for awhile: 1 2 2 2 + WR. And the only "CE 1" we have is... height. To get CE 2, it needs to be shin high and we're ankle high. And that "1" bugs the shit out of me :) Thanks for the feedback, I really mean it.
@@Steve_IndieRidge ... I'll send you my old TCX Hero wp boots so you can reverse engineer the waterproof, armored side zip. My pair has seen a lot of miles and years... The zip and boot have zero issues.
The flat sole works great on pavement, not so great with sand or gravel under them. I have a pair and almost learned the hard way with minimal sand between them and the pavement.
Yeah I hear ya. I am working on a welted, heeled boot (and some options zipper options). I figured there were already plenty of heeled boots out there. I still consider us "Indie Ridge Version 0.5". Since we're still relatively small and I have to wear a plethora of sombreros, but we'll get there.
Big John, I’m like “how is he gonna talk about boots and gloves for 27 minutes?! 🤣🤣 Fantastic job talking thru it all. Oust say, I haven’t bought the boots yet, love the look of the Comanches, wanted to buy the Gauntlet gloves, but didn’t have my size at the time… love that distressed look of both the Comanches & Gauntlet! Thanks for another good review and I will definitely give them a try. Warmer months I always use Vans High tops and colder months I use RedWings. Both are crazy comfy with no break in time either.
Lol I wear my boots, Vans, or go barefoot. I haven't tried Redwings in a while but they've been around 120 years, so I got some catching up to do. Hope to make a live up to them one day!
Just ordered The Knights as my first pair. I hope they are as good as advertised. Need some ventilated boots here in Florida. We are already in the mid 90’s. Thanks for the discount code.
I always hear great things about indie ridge. I do wish they'd start using more mesh and canvas material so I can try them out! I'm sure as they grow it will happen
You mean mesh and canvas on the outside? I definitely have new designs in the works, because though the ventilated boots are great, sometimes you just want to wear a pair of Vans. I want to be able to keep a modicum of protection. I think we're on the same wavelength 😎

I have the knight 3.0 ventilated I love them they're great keeps your feet really cool and comfortable I also have the Comanche I love them as well but I did get caught in a pretty heavy downpour and my feet were soaked???
Interesting. The boots are waterproof up to the gusset (about the mid line of the patch), and the top of boot. It could be the membrane broke during the lasting process, but I'd have to cut em up to find out. Also, if water comes in through the top, not much I can do about that 😄. Gimme a call this week (before Thursday) and let me know what happened.
John's the best and it was a friend who sent me the first photo a couple years ago. I just reached out and asked how he liked them and our relationship grew from there. Same with Rob.
So ive tried probably every conditioner/wax ever made. if you don't mind darkening your boots, Obenaufs Heavy Duty LP is some of the best stuff you can get, but it WILL darken the leather. Leather CPR is great to restore oils and generally "replenish" the boots, I've been a fan of Fiebing's Aussie Leather condition for years. They're all worth a shot, and pretty inexpensive. I'm trying to get one of these companies to make plastic little conditioner vials so people know they NEED to use conditioner on anything leather. Or I could just do a better job explaining it on the site.
There is a superstition that bad luck will come to a person who places shoes on a table. A belief common in the North of England is that the tradition relates to the coal mining industry. When a miner died in a colliery accident, his shoes were placed on the table as a sign of respect. :o
I've been wearing the Ventilated boots (Crossfield and The Knight, two more styles coming in Spring + a very very limited edition), So I've been gone through every iteration. In my experience, I've only felt the wind coming at your foot while riding, not heat from the engine. And if you need an even better breather, just tilt your foot out a tag, it's pretty cool.
I have a pair of crows and knights and gauntlet gloves. Love em. Boots are well made and comfortable as heck. Steve and Stephanie from indie ridge are awesome people and take care of you. Great product and company
Sorry John, I have definitely learned a lot of tips from your channel. Great work. But it’s far is it in the Indie Ridge go. Yes, I agree with you on the quality and construction of the boot. But as far is the cosmetic look to me, they felt like Herman monster boots or goofy boots. I tried wearing them, but I just can’t get over the look. I did reach out to Steven at Indie Ridge about my concerns. Never got a reply. On this one unfortunately I have to disagree with you. Keep up the good work.
We honestly try to answer every email and every call. But Steph's right, some do get missed. So I do apologize about that. Can't help the design at the moment.
Great boots so far!! Bought them early this year. Very very comfy!!! Wish I watched your video before to get a discount….. Definitely worth the money either way…
Two words: Email List. They're WAAAAY different than the emails you're used to. Case in point: I held a 15% off sale until my Kidney stone passed last week. It didn't pass and now I have surgery on Thursday. I feel another sale coming.
John, I bought a pair last year because of you, I agree I love them!! I want to buy there gloves but they just look so bulky, I should buy a pair and see in person, but im afraid if they are I don’t want to go through the hassle of returning them.
Here as some idea's for improvement...my favorite pair of riding boots I have bought 3 pairs of......they have an elastic retention on the tongue of the boot for the laces. I have ALWAYS tucked my laces into the tongue to keep them out of the way and when I got the boots that had this already thought out, it was PERFECT for me!!! Another thing is that for some of us, its hard to get a boot on due to the shape of the top of our feet, so having a zipper of some sort on the back or side is a HUGE plus. One more thing that could be added is eliminating the laces altogether and having a different retention system.
Are these truly waterproof? I have been wearing all leather western work boots for the last 20 years. With all of them, I noticed that I have to keep up with the mink oil in order for them to stay waterproof. Is there something to these boots that make them better.
Hey John…saw this video was looking for the best protection/style boots that are American made…and in fact purchased them last night due to your recommendation and the interview with Steve…can’t wait for them! Be well and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I have to agree with Brian, im on the 2nd pair of Mohawks because the first pair starting coming apart where the leather is sewn in that covers the composite toe. Threads unraveled. I wore two holes at that sewn connection point ( that was within 3 months from new) I will say though when i called Indie, a rep asked for pics and after i sent them, they shipped another pair within a few days. And yeah the same problem is occurring again. On the flip side i have the gloves and they are great
Can you make a video on motorcycle helmets 😅? I want a full face helmet idk which one is good. it's my first time getting one. 🤔 There's so many options.
The boots look decent, but gloves offer no scaphoid protection. I dont know how people even get away with selling work gloves as "motorcycle gloves" these days. They look great, but you're definitely gonna get f*cked up if you go down in these
The pain in the break in period of boot is worth the pain. If a boot has no break in period 8/ 10 times it's a worthless boot. Get some iron rangers, they put those boots to shame.
Not going to pay 30 or 40 extra dollars for nice printed paper or box with cool graphics, or even red liner that nobody will see, I care for leather liner, good quality leather and quality construction and materials.
Yeah, because you probably didn’t have ring gear on, if you don’t have ring gear on your legs, will get wet and the water runs right down into your boots

Then I'm fucked.
John, for the ventilated boots would the heat of the exhaust/engine be an issue being that the boots are like mesh ?
I've been wearing the Ventilated boots (Crossfield and The Knight, two more styles coming in Spring + a very very limited edition), So I've been gone through every iteration. In my experience, I've only felt the wind coming at your foot while riding, not heat from the engine. And if you need an even better breather, just tilt your foot out a tag, it's pretty cool.
I have a pair of crows and knights and gauntlet gloves. Love em. Boots are well made and comfortable as heck. Steve and Stephanie from indie ridge are awesome people and take care of you. Great product and company
Sorry John,
I have definitely learned a lot of tips from your channel.
Hey, try sending another email. Sometimes things get missed in the sea of emails, we normally respond to everyone!
We honestly try to answer every email and every call. But Steph's right, some do get missed. So I do apologize about that. Can't help the design at the moment.
I picked up the ventilated last year. Comfortable but still way too hot in hot weather.
Great boots so far!! Bought them early this year. Very very comfy!!! Wish I watched your video before to get a discount….. Definitely worth the money either way…
Thanks for the tutorial. I hope to get some so I can try them out.
Two words: Email List. They're WAAAAY different than the emails you're used to. Case in point: I held a 15% off sale until my Kidney stone passed last week. It didn't pass and now I have surgery on Thursday. I feel another sale coming.
@@Steve_IndieRidge bless your heart I am absolutely terrified of getting one of those. Hang in there and I hope all goes well for you.
Question........how do you keep your feet on ....with no heal on your boots?
I don’t have an issue, never did. For me, riding with a boot with a heel on is super uncomfortable.
Where are they made?
Just got my gloves from indie ridge and love it!Got two pairs for the price of one after they sent me promo code😊
Are these truly waterproof? I have been wearing all leather western work boots for the last 20 years. With all of them, I noticed that I have to keep up with the mink oil in order for them to stay waterproof. Is there something to these boots that make them better.
GREAT BOOTS! Thanks John for all the information👍
Hey John…saw this video was looking for the best protection/style boots that are American made…and in fact purchased them last night due to your recommendation and the interview with Steve…can’t wait for them! Be well and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I don’t mind paying for quality. You get what you pay for.
I love my nicks custom, handmade boots I think they’re the best
Have you taken them threw heavy rain? They actually kept ur feet dry on the waterproof series?
love the indie ridge! best boots hands down! what do you do with your heels on a trip 👠 pal ? 😂😂😂😂
Haha abusa!! i am working on on a heeled boot. Which means it'll be out in about ten years 🤣
@@Steve_IndieRidge sounds good to me man! already repping !
Nice ⚡️
Thank you
Do you wear motorcycle jeans as well? BTW, I have been using Indie Ridge boots and gloves for 2 years and agree 100%, they are the best!
Can you ask them to make a dress/riding boot? I commute to work and it would be nice to not have to change into my dress shoes.
@ $185 those boots are severely overpriced. They aren't triple stitched and the tennis shoe soles are glued in place. They are worth half that price.
Are you kidding me? I wear these boots constantly and some pairs for several years now and not one issue the best riding boot out there.
Great info brother!
If they made them without laces, I'd buy them. I won't ride with footgear that has something that can come loose and tangle in the chain.
What ????
Very informative thanks
Where’s Nadal & Glenn been
Everybody’s been busy and weather has not been good around here
Yo tell them they need an inside zipper for easy on
I will keep my Thorogood boots. Hand Made in the USA!!!
Bro my feet have gotten soaked wearing them so many times
Yeah, because you probably didn’t have ring gear on, if you don’t have ring gear on your legs, will get wet and the water runs right down into your boots
@@CYCLEFANATIX I actually did. Was wearing Odin pants.
These indie ridge boots look more like shoes than boots. I just don’t like the shoe look.
Made in Pakistan 😂
so much BS in this...lol
