    Nice looking boots. I’m very familiar with the BOA system. Excellent design since 2001. Founded by a snowboarder from Steam Boat Springs, Co. I’m an off road gravel cyclists and for years have used a mix of lace and traditional hook and loop closures. For several years now all my shoes now are BOA lacing. Nearly indestructible. But A breeze to repair, replace wires. Secure on-the -fly adjustment is a big benefit. Routed in such a way as to help displace pressure points across the foot. BOA found on quality Walking, Hiking and competitive endurance footwear. This system long ago made their way into footwear but other apparel like vests and other gear for Police, Fire and First Response. Great find Cruise.

    Chris, I bought the Icon Stormhawk boots last July in black. I tried them on and fell in love with them. Love the BOA system. I was in Iron Pony in Columbus, OH. The salesman recommended these. He wears them all day in the store. Also, rides with them. I got these boots for all the same reasons you mentioned in your
    review. I also, have the Tourmaster boots like you have. I like the Icon’s more. I can put my orthotics in them with no problem. As for true to size every mfg is different. I gave up on ordering boots on line. Great review Chris. Hope your feeling better.😊

    I recently purchased the Klim Outlander GTX boots for several reasons, but chief among them was the BOA wire lace system. The Klims replaced an older pair of Joe Rocket lace boots. I agree, the BOA wire lace system is (a) easier and faster on/off, (b) more comfortable, and (c) more safe than a string lace-up boot.

    I have been wearing an almost identical Klim boot since 2019, the Outlander GTX. I watched your whole video, and except for cosmetics, I think they are almost twins. I don’t remember the cost. Like you, I am very happy with the ratchet style tightening of the boot to your comfort. I liked my Klim boots so much, I bought two more pair, because we all know the models change frequently. The next time I am in the market, which might be awhile, I will look at these Icon boots. Thanks for the video.

    I have loved every piece of gear I have bought from Icon. I previously had summer gloves and they were awesome until I lost them. I recently bought the icon upstate riding flannel. Love that thing, it blends into daily life and looks great. It fills they niche when you leave on a cold morning but you know you will be switching to mesh when it gets hot. Last year I looked at a lot of motorcycle boots but I wear a eeee width and couldn't find any. I ended up picking up Ariat square toe work boots. They look awesome but are probably a compromise compared to hard core moto boot.

    I use these boots in the same colour as shown and can confirm all facts mentioned in the vid. Work very well on a 2006 GL1800 as also on a Vstrom 650. I prefer the Stormhawk over the Icon Truant 2. The only but relevant advantage of the Truant 2 is, that it looks better when wearing motorbike boots in the office.

    A few years ago I had my foot pinned under a heavy bike while wearing $200+ boots that had no ankle armor. Yes I was limping a bit after that and it took some time to heal. Hopefully I never have a heavy bike land on me again but just the same, I wear boots with ankle armor these days. "TCX Hero", comfortable & good traction.

    Excellent Review!! I also can't stress enough just how nice these boots are!!
    3 Decades of riding dirtbikes, dual-sports, cruisers, etc. and I've lost count of the boots I've worn over the years..
    These Boots Absolutely Outperformed Above And Beyond The Others! I even have 2 or 3 other random pairs kicking around..
    Alpinestars Belize tall adv boots, O'Neal Sierra Pros tall, O'Neal Shorties short, and again - For the past few years,
    all those other mentioned boots just been sitting, The Stormhawks are just more comfortable on/off the bikes,
    they're SAFER on bikes - Going back to NO Laces to get caught on pegs, in chains, etc.
    I also gave up wearing 'every day footware', and just wear my Stormhawks 100% of the time!
    [My 2 pairs of still new and still in the box Keen Boots] are bummed over that, but, it is what it is. haha
    As someone who skid/snowboarded - worked on said equipment at resorts and shops,
    I've always been around this BOA concept/system, and over the years it's gotten better and better..
    [I compared BOA clipless pedal bicycle shoes / older ski/snowboard boots, and even a few shoe companies..
    These Just Work, and work Perfectly Every Time.] [I wear em' on my EUCs [electric unicycles] also.
    Anyways, enough outa me.. [Writes note reminding me to order the Gray pair to have the full collection]
    😁👍
    Sam -

      I agree. I've been wearing my Daytona Road Star boots on my road trips for the last 3 years and they still look new....Gore Tex liners so your feet will never get wet and the Daytona's are very comfortable walking in off the bike feeling very flexible and light on your feet...waterproof,comfortable and cool on your feet while offering some of the best crash protection with touring boots..excellent boots and not cheap, but when you really look into how they are made you will realize why they cost what they do... you only get what you pay for with motorcycle gear. The Daytona boots are the best boots I've tried for touring on a motorcycle.

    BEST BOOTS EVER....For in town or slight adventure. From the moment I put these on, they felt like I've worn them for months. They are waterproof past the ancles. eVent waterproof/breathable membrane. TBH these are my go to boots when riding the ole "04 Ktm 525 mxc that juuuuuust passed to get plated. The absolute best for me is I'm an avid weekend easy destination camping rider that can get off the bike and set up camp and hike all in the same boot. The one thing I did to the boot was put a small patch of 3M clear tape on the shifting toe preventing wear. With the BOA easily 5 stars maybe 8/5 bonus just because the are so insanely comfortable. Sizing is great, I have a wide foot and the comfort level is there. The protection feels legit from toe and Ok ankle support in dirt.

    Odd, I have gone through three pairs of the Tourmaster Solutions WP 2.0 through the years and the only reason I am abandoning them is I can't find them anymore. even NOS on ebay...and the 3.0 got rid of the rear pull. I found them insanely comfortable to walk in and with about 180K between the three parts, never lacked to dry or wet grip. Never, ever had them leak even in 8 hours of deluge riding.
    I have been wearing the Stormhawks as a daily quite a bit and tried them on a short, 2000 mile tour. They are great for dry weather, to wear riding into the office or for LIGHT levels of moisture. They have not proven at all waterproof in any level of extended rain riding. I am still on the search for a good replacement for those (almost worn out) Tourmasters.

      You can wear a small pad you fit over the front of the boot. Or get a DCT bike.

    how would you compare these to the Kronox boots I've been wearing since you tested them?

      I like them better, but they are more than twice the price. Biggest difference is the sole is thicker and "stickier".

    Have you been able to do much riding with the Kronox boots you had reviewed ? If so, how would you compare them to the Tourmaster boots for extended rides ?

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  Рік тому

      I rode with the Kronox for about 3 weeks until I discovered the Icon boots. Icon is more comfortable and has better traction. Kronox still OK for an $89 boot. As for an extended ride, I would still prefer the Tourmaster over the Kronox.

    Slippery soles are an absolute no-no when riding big bikes. Laces are a pain for me because I ride daily to work. Fumbling with the laces a minimum of 10 times per week gets really annoying. Velcro tears up the inside of insulated pants. The BOA system is the way to go. I have this system on two pairs of mountain bike shoes and two pairs of boots. I cannot speak for the Icon Stormhawk specifically, but the footwear I own with BOA are very easy to operate. They cinch up snuggly the entire length of the tongue with just a twist of the knob. Mine has a pull ring attached to the cable that will unspool all the cable from the knob in a single easy pull. This opens up the boot quickly making them easy to get on and off. The BOA system is great as long as the design of the boot doesn't interfere with it's operation (poorly located knob, no quick pull ring to unspool the cable, eyelets don't allow cable to slide easily, etc.).

      I have no personal knowledge or experience with these. The Revzilla site says the outer leather is water resistant, but that there is a waterproof liner as well.

    • @victoryvisiontour
      @victoryvisiontour Рік тому

      No boots (or gloves) with a waterproof liner are actually water proof. They are water resistant for approximately 30 minutes in a rain. After about about 6 months of daily wear they are not even water resistant anymore. The best water protection I have found is 100% leather (boots and gloves). These are not water proof either, but I can get to work before the rain soaks through to my clothes unlike a "waterproof liner" or "waterproof membrane".

    Constructive criticism: in the future, you should KNOW the product that you're reviewing instead of saying, "I think". Next, your review scraped the surface. What are they like in the rain? How about in different temperatures? What about the BOA system? Does that last or break? What are the reviews of the boot and the BOA system like by other wearers? There's so much info you could've delivered but instead it seems like you just hurried to sit in front of the camera.
