I’m not a fan of screens that sit above the dash line - I prefer them much more integrated - but, I completely agree with your statement. I’m a big fan of diesel, so it’s a shame they’re disappearing. This is pretty damn close to perfect.
There’s something about the diesel mid-range torque that is so satisfying - good progress can be made with so little fuss. I’ve recently changed out of diesel for petrol. Whilst I enjoy the crisp throttle and “sporty” nature of the petrol (some of the sound of which is going to be from a sound generator tucked away in the electronics!), I do feel that if I wanted a fuss-free non-emotive rapid cross-country drive, I would prefer the diesel. They just get on with the job. Both my diesel (Golf) and now petrol (Mini) have a dual clutch transmission. The sport setting in the diesel was rubbish in sound and usability imo, but in the petrol it is great fun all round.
Purchased an S4, 21 plate black edition with 21k miles in December last year after looking for the spec i wanted, which took 2 months, Daytona grey, sunroof, red leather, factory electric towbar, bang and olufsen, rotor 19 alloys, plus i had a full PPF clear wrap which was important for the car as it will be travelling many miles each year from the uk to Spain, then from spain to Turkey then back to the uk in march, we have covered 12k miles in 10 months, the audi hasn't missed a beat, fuel returned excellent MPG, love the 700 NM, we have pulled plenty of pants down on against other performance cars on our journeys 🏁🏁😂,
I am owner of a s4 2020 TDI, which is one of the first 341ps engine replacing the 347ps. It has only 20k miles but it’s like new. It has some issue with keyless entry not working consistently but everything else is perfect. Unless on motorway I barely get more than 30mpg however, but I am hammering it quite a lot. Regarding the engine to have tested both it’s better on low end torque, less laggy. And also the dynamic streering and quattro diff is brillant. It’s our family car and it’s a blast, a tons more confortable than m340d for instance, however I feel like I would have been equally happy with a 45tfsi, as I don’t think the added sportiness is that worth it. It’s just very fast commuter, and very confident driving in all condition, you can accelerate very soon in curves.
I bought a Thomas- the-Tank-Engine blue one at about the same time as you got yours. Great car and does everything I want it to do. Only niggle was the new rear washer motor that was need last week after the rear wash chucked the water out via the rear camera and number plate. Chap in garage said it is a known Audi fault (!) . Non Audi garage replaced it for just shy of £300. My only other 'issue' is the throttle response in auto at junctions and roundabouts when you want to make a quick getaway. Keep up the good work Volkswizard!
Nice video thank you. I have a black 2020 S4 Black edition with Comfort and sound pack and Sunroof. I fitted my own manual dipstick and will be fitting 285/40/19 tyres (Slightly higher profile) to make a more comfortable ride and also a more accurate speedo reading. Also upgraded to wireless Android Auto. Lovely car except for the slight turbo / throttle lag...
Good tips ! Re wireless Android Auto, I enabled wireless carplay with VCDS on mine yesterday, so weird it's there just needs enabling. The lag is weird as the mild hybrid should stop that but I guess that varies with the charge in the system. Sometimes it's razor sharp in response, other times, usually roundabout it does nothing and then explodes forwards, just as well it's AWD!
Took the plunge and gone for 4 225 40 18 xl bridgestone turanza 6 for my seat leon 184 bhp diesel estate fr. Was needing rears, and our last trip to Devon from Northumberland was in torrential rain in the dark. And occasionally the aquaplaning was scary to say the least. So for £101 per corner I'm happy.
A B9 S4 Avant with 3.0Tfsi engine is the plan after I am finished with my c7 allroad bitdi. Given the mild hybrid tech in this B9.5 with essentially the same engine as my bitdi, the avg mpg you have isn't that much more than i get after owning it for 40k miles. I agree with the torque shove though as mine is stage 1 and runs at 550 lbs/ft 😁 I drive it in individual all set to dynamic bar the gearbox. As I also have a sports diff/dynamic steering options. 👌
@@jimmymcgoo8641 right enough darkside developments had one, and it is only a single turbo engine. 👍 Bet it has variable oil pressure like the euro 6 272bhp engine as well 🤔😂

One of the very few cars that I'd seriously consider replacing my Golf Mk 7.5 R Estate for - it's a bit classier than the Golf (pains me to say that....) & the diesel engine wouldn't put me off. If you're after a set of good winter tyres, I can recommend Fulda Kirstalcontact2 - I bought these by default last year (couldn't get anything else in time & I was heading off on a road trip), they are fantastic! Actually genuinely enjoyable to drive on - I've got 205/50/17s on VW Dijon alloys. Incidentally, I'm fully intending to go for your recommendation of Goodyear Asymmetric 6 tyres for my 19" summer tyres next year - so thank you for that👍. Great content, as always!
Thanks for this, a very interesting video, Andrew. Must admit I said never again after my first black car; but 9 years and 3 cars later I bought another one and immediately regretted it. However neither of those cars was anywhere near as good as a Clubsport S or this which may have swayed me a bit more😉. Like you I do think the interior quality of Audi (and VW) cars have dropped over recent years. It just doesnt feel as special sitting in the new ones nowadays
Love the interior of this version of the A4, perfect blend of physical buttons and touchscreen. From the reviews read and seen so far, I’m not sure the new A5’s all digital dash will be so easy to use and certainly doesn’t look as appealing. First reviews also mention a drop in build quality. I’m not sure I would be tempted to trade in my 2021 A4 for an A5 after these initial assessments.

Very nice 6 month review - i have now done more that 100.000 km in mine and still enjoy it as my daily. As mentioned in comments for your other S4 tdi videos i have a similar car that was used as show car from AUDI, produced in july 2019 - so a 2020 model. Have you been successful activating wireless Apple carplay in yours ? There are many threads in Audi forums on how to get it working but via the oneclick OBD11 i have not been successfull....
Thanks! I thought it had wireless car play until I tried to connect to it recently and couldn't work it out. Generally I prefer to use a cable as you can trust it to be charging then but I'll give it a go with VCDS if it is possible, thanks for the heads up👍🏻
As an owner of a 21 plate SQ5 with the same engine I get the pros and cons of the S4 (and the fake pipes are ridiculous, however Audi have dropped this silliness). As an all rounder it’s pretty close to perfect, albeit out of vogue due to its diesel engine.
I love these by stats and performance. And have previously wondered how far off would a 2017-19 3.0TDI V6 268BHP, be in comparison? Possibly the same engine with a tweak from Factory?
Well I think you're the first person I've heard say that they would prefer a full conventional key access/start than the "half way house" of a remote key entry......really?
I've recently purchased a 69 plate, A4 40 TDI, SLine Quattro in turbo blue. Perfect daily, love it! Can anyone recommend the best way and stuff to use on the digital cockpit screen please?
A little too complicated engine tech wise, when it goes wrong it negates any fuel economy while the spare wheel space is lost - digital dipstick is great until it goes wrong - I have an older gen C6 [reason for not buying a C7 back then, not interested in dieselgate recalls, subsequent downtunes and known adblue issues], custom tuned derestricted (returned better emissions/mpg than when stock), real exhausts, no adblue, no fake sound, a massive boot, 50mpg, brakes were changed to suit my liking (Brembo sharp at the front TRW anchors at the back) - so far had fun times on the road with a few RS6s and other Audis/Porsches/Bentleys/Mercedes/BMW/etc, but the main pleasure is motorway mile eating cruising in comfort with power on tap. The problem with newer audis, they have to deal with so much stricter Euro norms. That said, this A4 is likely to be more agile and nimble, and I understand Audi nearly eliminated the understeer tendency in newer models. The interior is simply gorgeous, real buttons on the console with only one minus: brake too hard with an opened drink, the liquid will spill right onto the usb and start/stop.
The nes diesel are very good on add blue iv done 20,000 miles so far and iv not topped up it yet. It is 95 motorway miles so don’t know if that makes a difference to the add blue usage. My older Mercedes c class used add blue fat more and I had to top that up twice in 20,000 miles.
I share the frustration about needing a key to open the car, but not to start it. It’d be helpful to have a little slot in the dash to put the key in after opening the car…. Hang on…
Andrew I think you've just made a planned roadtrip without realising it, you mentioned Germany and the Christmas markets and snow testing with winter tyres on, well what are you waiting for and when will it be on your channel 😂
Shame about the fake exhaust. I am going to the VW dealer today to pick up the oil cartridge and sump plug for my 16 year old MkV Gti. 100,000kms finally. Just to have a sticky beak.
