Neytiri viciously uses Spider in this scene. I know she was trying to show Quaritch that she means business. But you dont cut someone you're simply using in a stand off. Talk about treating someone with no respect whatsoever. I think that's why Spider decided to save Quaritch
@@LukeLovesRose I know Neytiri but again spider knows she’s gonna do it but is still pleading not for self preservation purposes just saving his friends(in my mind anyway)
This scene is very interesting. You see that both Neytiri and Quaritch are the same here. They are willing to go to extreme lengths to hurt the other one, yet not quite ready to sacrifice their own child to destroy their enemy. I also think it’s meant to show a contrast that the parents are willing to go to extremes as to use their children as bargaining chips, whereas both children are not even thinking of themselves, they’re pleading to their parents to save the other one. So, I think the direction we are going to see in these films will be that the children will correct the mistakes of the parents and ultimately, I think Kiri and Spider will end up together as a pair, either romantically or just as leaders, and will find a way for humans and Navi to coexist.
Quaritch didnt intentionally cut Kiris throat. What Neytiri does here is vicious and twisted. I was really shocked that she went so far as to purposely cut Spider. Theres a reason why Spider decides to save Quaritch later.
@@LukeLovesRose I get what you’re saying, but I also think that given how many of her people Quaritch killed as a human, there was no doubt in her mind that he would kill Kiri, so Neytiri cuts Spider to show that she’s not messing around and would kill too. It’s not right and Spider should not have been hurt by her, but she does it to call Quaritch’s bluff in regards to not caring about Spider.
@@LukeLovesRose i know it was 2 months ago, but I have to say that I love how natural Neytiri is here tho, shes fully in madness and creators decided to show that she's flawed, which I love, and it gave this scene more depth. Still, I don't agree with hurting children as well!
@@sarahsarmento2733 I feel like Neytiri had every right to threaten to kill spider. and if she'd actually done it, i'd still understand why. I love Spider and all, but Neytiri had just lost her Eldest son. and She'd never liked Spider in the first place.
@@slaypigeon Then again, I don't think Spider cares about himself. He led Quaritch and his lackeys to the sea people, but it's obvious that when he was apologizing to them after their home was burned down that if he had known the RDA was going to torture and humiliate the Na'vi he NEVER would have done it.
If Neytiri killed him, Kiri would never forgive her for taking away from her and the Lo'ak their favorite older brother, who also understood them more than anyone else.
That's what happens when you repeatedly traumatize and push someone beyond their breaking point multiple times. The people in here lambasting her are sociopaths.
Yeah she was so cool ;) Like Jake as Turok Makto in Avatar 1. Can´t wait for my favorite franchise Avatar 3 and see what those ash people etc. bring to the table of the greatest movie adventure of all time ;)
She just lost her son, Neytiri was going to make sure she was not going to lose her daughter as well. There's a reason people tell you to watch out for a mother bear when her cub is in danger.
Quaritch: Surrender or she dies Neytiri:Let her go or kill him! Kiri: Mom, please don't kill him! Spider: Don't do that, please! What Kiri and Spider deep down mean: Spider: Don't kill her or I'll have one more reason to hate you Kiri: Don't kill him, mom, otherwise I'll never forgive you for that.
Just wait until Neytiri finds out that Spider saved Quaritch from drowning. She's going to be really pissed. And just like in the first movie, she's going to say just like what she said to Jake "You'll never be one of us!"
The sad thing is I see this coming like this IF this scene (that would have a hugh impact to Neytiri's kids) ever gets brought up again and not forgotten.
Ever since I saw Spider rescuing Quaritch from drowning I've been nervous about the moment the Sully family finds out the truth. I imagine something what you wrote coming. The day we will see this happen is inevitably approaching.
What makes you think they'll find out? Not to mention he was always 2nd fiddle to Sully's family despite him showing so much loyalty yet Neytiri was ready to kill him for something he didn't do.
@@rhey81 Jake left him to drown in fact he made sure Quaritch wouldn't be able to resurface, the whole point of Jake fighting him on the boat was to make sure he would get rid of him for good. Beside that Loa'k and Spider went separate ways to try and find Jake. It wouldn't take much for Loa'k to figure out what must of happened and why Spider disappeared for a while. He wasn't with Kiri, Tuk, and Neytiri.
There’s something really badass about 1:33. The phrasing of his revenge intention, him saying he “owes” her a death makes it sound like although he wants payback, he has a bit of respect for how she was able to kill him
@@TheProtagonist2020 He's grey. What he's doing in the movies is to save humanity from dying. If Jake didn't screw things up for the unobtanium mining, the Nav'i would die or get the Native American treatment, but humanity will have a golden age and be able to spread out from Earth and fix all energy problems.
@@JohnDoe-bh2lp So in other words Jake did the right thing. We as humans really need to stop thinking that we can just force our way onto other peoples lands/worlds etc and take over like it was always ours.
She's lost multiple family members and her home to humans and she has a husband who barely ever listens to her concerns. She was pushed to her limit and she snapped. Even still she seemed to second guess what she was doing after quaritch yielded.
It was in the moment and it makes sense after what (or who) just happened. That’s probably a bigger question for us anyway, whether or not she could’ve been actually willing to let the war get the best of her and kill an innocent child
I think it’s worth noting- Neytiri doesn’t throw Spider towards Quaritch- she knows him back. Not exactly “welcome to the family” but she knows Jake trusts him. I also thinks it’s interesting that she cuts him across the chest, the same way Jake is cut at the beginning of the movie. There’s something tying Spider to the Sullys through out the film
I agree with your entire comment. With the cutting of the chest part - it's almost as if because Neteyam died, Spider getting cut on the chest was like the transfer of leadership to him just like transfer of power when Jake steps down as Olo'eyktan. It'll be interesting to see if Spider has a leadership role further into the series. To add on to this thought further: Later, after this scene, Jake is is embracing Lo'ak and Spider. The camera zooms in on Spider being embraced and Jake's voice says "a son for a son." I wonder if this is another hint towards what they will have Spider be like in the later movies.
I understand her grief and anger towards the humans but Neytiri needs to give Spider a chance because he's nothing like the humans who killed her sister, her father, and her oldest son. Neytiri needs to find it in her heart to forgive humans because not all human are bad just as I bet that it's possible that not all Na'vi are good either but even so, I guess we'll have to see how it goes in the future. I hope that Neytiri will finally accept Spider as part of her family and be motherly to him for the first time in his life.
But he also let his father live who was trying to kill them and indirectly got neteyam killed. I understand that’s his father and he wanted a father-son relationship but quaritch is literally evil
Nah she was right spider should of been with his own kind because when he saves his father after everything he cause and done was everything I needed to know about him he's dumb
@@munchk1n393 I understand that but having hatred within your heart for someone will only make things worse besides Kiri would never forgive her mother for trying to killing spider
I honestly see Spider being Na’vi Quadritch’s way to redemption if possible. I mean we see his brutality and evils in Way of the Water but his interactions with Spider really show a soft side especially when he begins to learn about Na’vi culture like when he joyfully claims his ikran and learning the language. If there is redemption for him, Spider will be the key to that redemption
If you think of what Jake as a narrator says at the start of ATWOW "The most dangerous thing about Pandora is that you may grow to love her too much" and take into consideration that Quaritch wants to learn the Navi ways which began with Spider, there's a possibility that Quaritch become good (possibly in Avatar 5). I even have a theory that he will share the fate of Darth Vader - he will redeem himself and heroically sacrifice himself by saving someone's life (possibly Spider's).
There was a scene where they went back to where they left the dead body of Neteyam, Jake said "A son for a son" while hugging Spider. He might become officially part of the Sully fam next movie. They took Quaritch's son but not by death. Spider's heart and loyalty is with the Sully's... I hope..
This solidifies Neytiri as having pure black Air Force energy as she was willing to kill Spider like🫰🏾, one of best scenes in the movie hands down 🙌🏾 🙂↕️
Me I get mad at my teacher for forcing me to breaking up my girlfriend and treat her like an Enemy and I told my teacher " this is a Centenary team, not an Enemy team! " My teacher : we are supposed to beat each other up and always win a Game that's what I want is vengeance And hate !
And people wonder why Spider would choose to save Quaritch...? If Neytiri, a giant blue alien who has never shown me respect in any way decided to hold me hostage and then cut me across the chest, you can bet your booty that i would have loyalty issues
It's hard to blame Neytiri for threatening Spider when she lost so much that she deeply cared. She lost her sister, her father and her eldest son. No Parent should bury their own child.
While I get Neyteri is mad, she’s no better than what the humans did prior to Sully’s arrival. As to why Spider saved Quaritch; maybe he felt conflicted because that is his dad, somewhat, but couldn’t stand by him because of what he did. Pointless slaughter for revenge.
The loss of family can force us to do some terrifying and horrible things Netriyi was acting out in rage and hate for the loss of her son and no doubt her father because of Quartich but it still scared me that she was almost going to kill spider just to avenge her family
Im not saying that losing a son is excuse to threaten others kids, but I bet that after such a shock she was just totally in madness and griev, so yeah while i don't agree with what she did and almost did, I understand. Like could any of you tell that she was thinking clearly? She was focused on her hatred to humans and on fear for her daughters here, nothing else mattered there. You can see that she started to snap out of it after Quaritch released Kiri, her eyes and ears movement showed that she was surprised, and after that she pushed Spider *behind her*. Tbh I love this whole scene because it shows that Neytiri is not ideal and perfect.
It feels like the characters are incomplete. Like things are happening and opening up facets of personality that need time and growth to straighten out. I'm curious to see what kind of resolutions to the story will be made, because it's so open to going a number of ways.
I dont think these characters have actually opened up about these issues. Theyve been repressing it. Look at Neytiri. This definitely came out of nowhere. But it was established that Neytiri had absolutely no respect or love for Spider, and why. They were all enjoying themselves in their Pandora paradise until the humans came back and war started. All of this is good reason to suppress deep feelings of anger, resentment, etc. And most tribal people dont go to therapy
Guys. If you watch the scene, Neytiri just welcomed a spider into her family. 1. When Neytiri says "son for son" and cuts Spider's chest, it's the same as in the first scene of the movie with Jake. She symbolically cut the ties between Qurich and Spider 2. Look at the knife in his hand. Keeps it out to the side and away, not straight at Spider. 3. When Qurich releases Kiri, meaning he is safe, he throws a spider behind him. Because "sone for sone" Regardless, I don't think she would want or see him as her son. It was just a necessary step for the sake of his family.
Yeah dont care what my prior connection was I'm never trusting her again. Maybe that's why Spider saved Quaritch in the end he still felt the pull towards the human side of things even if reluctantly.
No. He could tell Quaritch wasnt going to kill Kiri. But it's quite obvious that Neytiri was going to kill him. Plus Netiri intentionally cut him. If anyone cut me like that, you can bet your a** I'm going to be conflicted about what side I'm on
why do people completely ignore that she lost her sister, her father, her people, and her son all because of humans? I understand that she made a mistake here, but let's not act as if everything she did was done without a reason...
Spider isn't even thinking about his own life here, partially because he really doesn't want his dad to kill Kiri, but also because he knows that Neytiri is deep in madness from losing her oldest child and it would be damn near impossible to reason with her right now.
Safe to assume Neytiri and Kiri are going to emotionally be clashing heads in the next film(whenever that is). Neytiri, you got your hands full with this 1 act, and I'm not even going to mention how the other characters will feel... umm good luck ig. 😅
Somehow the movie made me empathize with Quaditch more than anyone like the guy went through a whole existential crisis realizing he’s just a memory of a guy who died, saw his own corpse and went through a whole “to be or not to be” moment and still doubled down on who he was and at the end shows he still cares for his own kid. Meanwhile I’m like why the heck did they run away to a peaceful village knowing they’re being hunted your going to predictably bring conflict to these people why were they so dumb
it would have been the same if they had stayed where they were...at least by going so far away they could have had some hope that they wouldn't have found them...
I kind of lost respect for Neytiri. What she did was kinda unforgivable. And please don't give me the "she lost her son" thing because it's not excusable or defendable. Just because her son was killed doesn't mean her son's killer's son is guilty
If she doesn't do that, Jake Sully surrenders or they k!ll Kiri, of course all this remembering that her bow had been destroyed and she couldn't hit an arrow and end quaritch once and for all
do you really think she has the patience to bury one child, let alone HER ENTIRE FAMILY because tuk and kiri almost got killed, jake almost surrendered, which leaves neytiri and loak. even if it isn't excusable, quartich dragged her family into this war. this was the only way.
@@sarahsarmento2733 jake and neytiri didn't do it out of intention though. in fact they were trying to stay out of war as much as possible, the rda and quartich had the decision to NOT invade them, but they did and they started the war in the first place. so what you just said is wrong.
It's like I was saying in other comments, Neytiri was completely distraught and out of her mind. Some people don't understand, but anyone who has felt this way knows what I'm talking about. When we are overwhelmed by disturbing feelings, even reason becomes distorted. Before losing her son, Neytiri had already lost so many other people. Her family was her strength, where she could live despite all the sadness she had been enduring. Anyway, when I watched the movie I didn't feel like she was actually intending to kill him. And for me when she cut his chest, it was to make sure Quaritch would fall for her bluff. So much so that she released Spider as soon as Quaritch released Kiri.
Neytiri please, don't! Just because Spider is human and he's Quaritch's son, it doesn't mean that he's like his father and the rest of the Sky People! Please I am begging you Neytiri, spare Spider's life, and find your own heart to forgive him! He's not guilty of everything bad that has happened to everything and everyone you hold dear! Please, give Spider a chance! He's only a boy! I understand your grief but there is no excuse to harm an innocent human boy besides one of your daughters Kiri, and one of your sons Lo'ak consider Spider as part of their family. Your oldest son Neteyam died, giving his life to save Spider's life, so please, don't let Neteyam's death be in vain! Please, I am begging you Neytiri, your mate and husband Jake even accepted Spider like a son, and Jake was once human before he became one of your people out of his love for you! I am begging you to give Spider a chance as you should've done it a long time ago before the Sky People returned to Pandora and brought destruction once again. I may bear no grudge towards you Neytiri, I do respect you and I understand your pain very dearly. I love the rainforest of Pandora as much as I love the oceans of Pandora, and all the animals on Pandora. I respect every culture and the way of life on Pandora but please, Neytiri, your older sister Sylwanin, your father Eytukan, and your oldest son Neteyam wouldn't want you to do the unthinkable by killing Spider, who may be human but he is a true Na'vi by heart. I beg you Neytiri, please do not let your heart become darkened and consumed by vengeance and hatred towards humanity. True what the humans have done is unforgivable but Jake was once a human, and you loved him anyway, and also, there are some good humans who respect and value the wild life of Pandora. Please, Neytiri, if you kill Spider, then you would only prove yourself no different than Quaritch and the rest of the Sky People. Find your heart to forgive the good humans, like Norm, Max, and even the late Grace Augustine, who was your teacher, and Kiri's birth-mother. Also, Spider is one of the good humans that you need to forgive. Please, both Kiri, Lo;ak, and even your younger daughter Tuk wouldn't want Spider to die either just as your mate and husband Jake don't want him to die either. Please, honor their wishes, I beg you Neytiri, and I am sure that Eywa, the Great Mother, would want you to forgive Spider too. I wish you, your family, and your people the happiness that all of you deserve on Pandora! May Eywa be with you all!
I also wish all this for Neytiri, for the sake of Kiri, Lo'ak, Neteyam and Tuk. They love Spider as their foster brother, and would be heartbroken if he dies.
I kind of understand the pain of Neytiri the reason she don’t like spider because in the first movie, the humans killed her father and in this movie, the humans killed her son. She don’t like spider because spider is human and she definitely will not like spider anymore in the third one because he saved his father that killed her son so this movie is gonna be a lot of ups and downs and flips😮😮
Probably just more of the same again... Incredible worldbuilding, amazing visuals but a nothing or repeat story with characters you forget their names the second you leave the cinema or waking up the next day. If Cameron doesn't give the story and the character writing the quality they deserve I don't wanna see Avatar 3 in cinema anytime soon.
I don’t think she was really gonna kill spider because she had no other choice that was the only way to release her daughter. She lost one child she doesn’t wanna lose another one
As much as I liked this movie, I don't think Quaritch is the type of man to suddenly be filled with fatherly love for a kid he's known for a few weeks. The Quaritch we knew in Avatar 1 would have let Neytiri kill Spider. I think it would be more believable if he was motivated by the guilt of abandoning his child and then possibly causing his death (he's a man who likes customs and norms so being a deadbeat dad is against his values) but it was not shown that way. Maybe if they showed that being in a Na'vi body somehow changed his psyche as we've seen Na'vi are more empathetic than humans probably due to the way their nervous systems operate. Or if they showed that he's grown apathetic to the mission of killing Jake and his family due to spending time enjoying the planet in a Na'vi body and he doesn't think getting any human kid killed is worth it. Or if they showed the kind of narcissistic parenting where parents see kids as an extension of themselves or property of sorts. But it's none of those things so Quaritch being mortified about Spider's safety feels quite forced
Theres a version/scene where after Quaritch lets Kiri go Neytiri is still going to kill spider but Jake stops her. They should have left that in the movie.
I love how she says "a son for a son" despite just killing like 50 sons, brothers, and fathers less than 5 minutes ago. Truly the "protagonist" of all time
Remember how many of her people were killed too tho, sons brothers and fathers. Yes she’s wrong for threatening to kill Spider but remember where she is coming from
@@mitkoogrozev it’s a movie about blue aliens bro 🤣 getting offended on the behalf of fictional movie aliens is the most American thing I’ve ever heard
There's an extended scene where she literally stabs a guy countless times after she disarmed him and he begged for mercy. It's a great scene where Cameron is challenging our love for these characters.
Obviously, Neytiri just went through some stuff, but damn, kinda shows the innate speciesism of the Navi’. Kinda reminds me of the proverb with the dog and the family, except obviously Spider wasn’t an animal, at least to the rest of the family
Everyone is so convinced this scene is good, let me point out the flaws, Spider could have easily found a gun off the floor and gunned the bad guy down from behind, Neytiri could have easily shot him with an arrow from behind, but both are stupid and decide to have a standoff that risks kiris life. What a stupid scene.
Ney'tiris bow got destroyed in a scene prior. But she COULD totally have picked up an RDA gun because it makes 0 sense to me that Jake didn't show her how guns work so she can use them in a worst case scenario.
I think you people are looking at this situation and the character from an outside perspective. People go to a baseline of thinking and feeling during a dire situation. People dont automatically do the most logical things in a panic. People will use or do things that they're most comfortable with in a panic.

It was in the moment and it makes sense after what (or who) just happened. That’s probably a bigger question for us anyway, whether or not she could’ve been actually willing to let the war get the best of her and kill an innocent child
I guess its fine coz she's black
I can't agree with you more guys.

I hope..

1:28 Even though Neytiri cut him, he still helped Jake’s family escape. He realized who his real family.
This is exactly why Spider chose to save Quaritch later... all because of Neytiri hatred and complete lack of respect for Spider
She symbolically cut the ties between Qurich and Spider
2. Look at the knife in his hand. Keeps it out to the side and away, not straight at Spider.
3. When Qurich releases Kiri, meaning he is safe, he throws a spider behind him. Because "sone for sone"
Regardless, I don't think she would want or see him as her son. It was just a necessary step for the sake of his family.
When she said a son for a son she meant you killed my son so I'm killing yours and she knows kiri loves him
dude she was going to murder him.
That’s one helluva stretch you’re making
She wanted to kill him. But if she accepts him later on, this could be symbolic.
Great details
Funny how this comments are so sensitive, she is a mother after all and at the end she wants to protect her child.
Even after Spider got cut he was still asking to not hurt Kiri
I’d like to see a scene where Eywa tells Neytiri not to take her anger on spider and a later scene where she hugs him and apologizes.
Neytiri: a son for a son!
Rhaenyra: That's what I'm talking about, girl! 😉
Spider isn't even thinking about his own life here, partially because he really doesn't want his dad to kill Kiri, but also because he knows that Neytiri is deep in madness from losing her oldest child and it would be damn near impossible to reason with her right now.
This scene shows that Quaritch isn’t completely heartless

But it's none of those things so Quaritch being mortified about Spider's safety feels quite forced

he wants to end it once and for all
And kiri, they trying marry
Well why didn’t miles quaritch throw his knife at neytiri
Maybe she hates him bc she thinks that what he does is the equivalent to blue face 😑
Well, even if Neytiri killed Spider Quaritch, will kiri in return.😮
He didnt want Spider to die though.
I don’t think Neytiri did anything wrong. She had to save her daughter 🤷♀️
She should of killed him. He a snake playing on both sides and the reason for her sons death and has the nerve to keep bringing ther family problems by saving him
Wait. How did Spider get Neteyam killed??
@@LukeLovesRoseThat was Lo'ak’s idea to save Spider. That’s what Neteyam got killed.
@@TheProtagonist2020 And how is that Spiders fault?? That was Loak and Neteyams decision
I think the worst part is she doesn't even attempt to apologize for it.
APOLOGIZE?! 😂😂😂😂 This society gets more and more sociopathic by the day. Can't make this stuff up. 💀👏
Neytiri was on the wrong here. But it's understandable. She wasn't bluffing when she said she'd kill Spider here. Spider did lead them & they tortured others too. But it's his dad the most to blame.

HUMANITY FIRST!!!
Enough with Fucken Humanity!!!!
Spider is still a traitor without morals. Idc about his age, he should have known
Anrse codo😂
Honestly this made Neytiri the worst character in the movie for me. It's made even more insulting that Spider still went back to them after this. Fuck this movie.
Well what other choice did she have her daughter Kiri was gonna die if she didn't and ofc even tho she didn't like him she didn't want to kill him cause she knows how important he his to her family but like she can't be talking that spider needs to be with his kind she literally did marry a human
@@HannaDoesEdits jake is not human
He used to be human, but not anymore
@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 ik that but before he was 100% Navi and still human neytiri still loved him when she knew he was on her side but even after knowing spider is on her side she still hates him cause she knows what his father is like it's not his fault ok spider is very loyal and if neytiri treated him with respect them he probably wouldn't have the courage to have his fathers life
@@HannaDoesEdits his navi appearance is a big factor in how neytiri can love him
If he keep his human body while stay around her, that will be different
Spider is human with human appearance
@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 yeah but she still would have loved him even if he wasn't Navi in the first movie when Jake was about to die from lack of oxygen Neytiri came to help him if spider was in the same position I don't think she would care cause he fell and got taken by the Skye people and she didn't even bother to check if he was ok even after Kiri told her so many times he is hurt down there
Bro spider is gonna turn of mfs sullies and I'd love that i think Spider will join RDA and since he spent his entire childhood on Pandora he could easily help RDA to beat Sullies
The writing of this movie was next level dumb.
This scene makes me wonder if she's gonna turn to the dark side, like Anakin did, and join the Ash People. She seems to want to kill all humans & probably thinks that the only sky people are dead sky people. Though she forget that some of her allies are humans & Jake, Lo'ak, Neteyam, Kiri & Tuk are part human.
She not have knowledge about science
So she can’t understand their children have a part of human dna
All she know is her family is navi while spider is human
And she still know she have some human as allies
That why she can endure to have human near her while they are people of the race who destroy her life
But that already is her limit, she not must to and also can’t treat them good
At best is she will avoid them and let jake deal with them
@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 The only one here with an iota of sense. 👏
