Back when movies actually felt real and gritty. Everything from the crowd, the store worker, Riggs' eyes, the sweat on Murtaugh's face and the intensity in the acting.
Riggs actually pulls the trigger and Murdoch uses his thumb to stop the hammer from hitting the bullet in the chamber. Amazing scene in one of the best action movies ever.

Donner is one of the best. However, if you want more like this: This movie, Lethal Weapon 2, Last Action Hero, and the Last Boy Scout were all written by a guy named Shane Black. He has a newer movie called Nice Guys that I think is a perfect detective movie. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Hilarious, heartfelt, violent, suspenseful, it's got it all. "You're not trying to draw psycho pension. You really are crazy" "I'm hungry, I'm gonna go and get something to eat" That was the perfect response to that comment.
This was a golden era when films weren't afraid of addressing deep emotions. This scene is as heartbreaking as it is funny. Such a special dynamic - one which paints Americans rather well. They've built up a hellish environment & suffer a great deal, but they somehow keep a sense of humour.
I always loved the dark, gallows humor of Americans. Finding humor in the worst moments thats combined with self assurety & being resigned to whatever fate will be This type of character trait exists through out American cinema dating all the way back to the beginning of motion pictures. Always is there a wisecracking character to defuse the tension admist dramatic situations. Even in kid's films like Disney's Pinocchio, these characters are present and Bugs Bunny.
But he's laughing his way up to the bank so it's like a middle finger to the Globes. He's worth $45 million. OK that's not a lot compared to an Al Pacino or Robert De Niro or Nicole Kidman, or Samuel L Jackson, but he hasn't had it bad though. And we all know the Globes and Emmy's favored CBS, The WB, and ABC as well as HBO. NBC was like half way. But the Globes only incresed with shitstain Littlefield took over tenure as CEO of NBC and made it CBS. UPN and Fox were always the underdog networks of sorts. NBC too depending on the era. CBS, The WB and ABC are the white man's networks. And "Friends"-loving. Nothing Warner Bros.ish about The WB. Tribune sucks. Why the "The" before "WB." I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network, no "The" before "WB," no Tribune, no frog, no "dubba," "dubba," "dubba."
I feel for mel gibsons character in this scene, i really do, especially after i lost both my parents, and for a while my (now) 5yr old nephew kept me going
One of the BEST scenes ever acted by two giants. If an actor is truly fortunate, they'll find that ONE role that FOREVER defines them. This movie cemented that for BOTH of them. GIBSON will always be Riggs. GLOVER will always be Murtaugh!
Yeah up until that point Roger thought he was just calling his bluff, at that moment he realized he was wrong and that Riggs wasn't faking. If Riggs had pulled the trigger though Roger could have found himself in a lot of trouble.
This scene is perfect. Perfectly written, perfectly acted. Even a touch of humor when he tries to slam the door. They don't make 'em like they used to!
Gibson's hair style was a good choice. It adds to the feeling that he's a bit out of control and it changes his too recognisable face into something a bit less familiar, so it's easier to see Riggs and not just Gibson.
Electricshrock that’s why Murtaugh said your not really trying to draw a psycho pension, you really are crazy. He thought Riggs was putting on a show for how crazy he is but realizes he is certifiably crazy and talks with a shriek later on to discuss Riggs
Bluemgwes he is still acting in movies just not as much but he was one of busiest actors in 1980s and 1990s along with movies in 2000s like Shooter where played a bad guy against Mark Wahlberg in 2007. He is 72 years old now in real life, he has been pretty busy when not working as a philanthropist and humanitarian work he does around the world. He released 7 or 8 movies last year alone and has several he completed for release this year just have to do some research and see what he has been up to. IMDb website and look him show what he is making.
Jon Arnall Shooter was more recent then that in 2007 with Mark Wahlberg. He has had movies come out like 2017 had 7 or 8 movies released and was on tv shows like Criminal Minds
Me too. The Color Purple and the Lethal Weapon are my favorite Danny Glover movies. He is a great actor. When I saw The Color Purple as a kid in elementary school Danny Glover was the first actor who was so good that he played a character that made me hate, fear, and pity him in the same movie.
I don't know what it is but films from this era just seem better. It's like writers understood what makes conflict interesting, funny, sad, emotional etc. Also, the chemistry between Glover and Gibson is amazing.
Im so glad i was around to watch that movie. I mean, kids this days that never saw this movie or die bard or back to the future. I lived it all and im thankful to that.

"You're not trying to draw psycho pension. You really are crazy"
"I'm hungry, I'm gonna go and get something to eat"
That was the perfect response to that comment.
Their chemistry was off the charts
Glover is HILARIOUS! I love him so much!
1:30 favorite Danny Glover face. Wide eyes, it's a very intense scene for the both of them.
Now... Imagine if he pulls the trigger.
@@danskyl7279 he did though.... Murtaugh's thumb kept the hammer from igniting the primer.
Deer in the headlights time!
Finding humor in the worst moments thats combined with self assurety & being resigned to whatever fate will be
This type of character trait exists through out American cinema dating all the way back to the beginning of motion pictures.
Always is there a wisecracking character to defuse the tension admist dramatic situations. Even in kid's films like Disney's Pinocchio, these characters are present and Bugs Bunny.
why are we afraid of addressing deep emotions now??
@@sungleongBecause someone may get "offended" by the questions or answers. People are entirely too sensitive, in a bad way, nowadays. It's a shame.
I'm hungry. I'm gonna get something to eat. Nice words after trying to kill himself.
I feel like this could've been a pretty good Snickers commercial
Martin Rodriguez
Well Glover started it
Suicide makes me hungry (Will ferrell) hahha
Hey man Psycho mofos gotta eat too you know? 🤯🤤👌😛
You notice his face goes from wild eyed and crazy to calm and nonchalant just like that?
Danny Glover is such an underrated actor. Can't believe he never has been nominated for a Globe or Oscar
I love it. Glover can't cope with the insanity.
go now quickly
Nobody else could have played these roles like danny glover and mel gibson. Both guys are phenomenal actors.
At 1:19 when Roger says "Put it in ya mouth!" you can see Riggs is trying to hold back his laugh lmao
The way Murtagh said "Mahf" i would be trying not to laugh too 😂😂😂😂😂
MAWFFFFFF 😂😂
0:22 “Remember, the door swings both ways”-
Lieutenant Michael "Mike" R. Harrigan (Predator 2)
one of the best arguments in movie history lol
Sometimes... arguing with your best friend or even someone dearly is a lot more harder than someone who u dont know..
Hell Yeah
I feel for mel gibsons character in this scene, i really do, especially after i lost both my parents, and for a while my (now) 5yr old nephew kept me going
The Lord protects orphans. May He bless you in your life.
Stay strong.
just seen this comment, im an atheist so explain that!
Sometimes, the only way out is thru. Sad but true. I'm glad you and your nephew have each other.
The way Mels eyes change from crazy back to relaxed i dont give any fuks and replying i'm hungry was Awesome acting!
One of the BEST scenes ever acted by two giants.
If an actor is truly fortunate, they'll find that ONE role that FOREVER defines them.
This movie cemented that for BOTH of them.
GIBSON will always be Riggs. GLOVER will always be Murtaugh!
GET IN HERE!!! 😂😂 the way he says it 🤣🤣🤣
It's hilarious. I always thought it would have been even funnier if when he slams the door if it hit the guy painting too. Lol
@@ryan4ever956 Remember, "the door swings both ways..."
@@mkaplan1383 lol very true
@@ryan4ever956 That line also came from another character Danny Glover played almost on the same year.
"Git in heyuh!"
Best bromance ever....
1:24 is the moment Murtaugh has a feeling that maybe Riggs isn't lying. The look in his eyes.
Yeah up until that point Roger thought he was just calling his bluff, at that moment he realized he was wrong and that Riggs wasn't faking. If Riggs had pulled the trigger though Roger could have found himself in a lot of trouble.
1:35- riggs eyes say a solid goodbye..
Space Ace Riggs did pull the trigger. Roger jammed his thumb on the hammer to keep it from falling, hence why Roger said, “ouch!”
They don't make movies like this anymore. What a shame. 80s for the win.
“Puh it in ya mouf”
Lol
He went Black on'em!!! 😂😂😂😂
DONT NIBBLE ON THE BARREL
PULL THE TRIGGER
Bullet might go through ya ya ear and not kill you
This scene is perfect. Perfectly written, perfectly acted. Even a touch of humor when he tries to slam the door. They don't make 'em like they used to!
Back in the 80s when you go to the movies to watch this in a real stand alone theatre building ... damn missed them ole days...
You couldn’t come up with a better pairing than these two.
Gibson's hair style was a good choice. It adds to the feeling that he's a bit out of control and it changes his too recognisable face into something a bit less familiar, so it's easier to see Riggs and not just Gibson.
But this is his actual hair and it did cut until in 1993
22 seconds=Love how Danny sweeps the door closed, in a fiery, yet brassed off energy! Danny is a class act in every known role!
One thing I've never understood about this scene is exactly what outcome Murtaugh was hoping for.
Electricshrock I believe he wanted to expose Riggs as a person just putting on an act. He didn't actually believe Riggs was suicidal.
Electricshrock that’s why Murtaugh said your not really trying to draw a psycho pension, you really are crazy. He thought Riggs was putting on a show for how crazy he is but realizes he is certifiably crazy and talks with a shriek later on to discuss Riggs
That face at 00:41 tells it all 😂
"GET IN HERE!!!" wifffff
What would have made it even more funny is if the door hit the guy he pulled out before yelling GET IN HERE. Lol
Try playing that part at 0.25X speed.
Riggs is one tought cookie.
+Make K. Well, he had lost his wife and fought in the Special Forces in Vietnam, so, don't know what you can say to him.
Connor Brennan And that's what made him so dangerous, a "lethal weapon"; he had pretty much nothing to lose in the first movie.
Riggs: that expression, I'm hungry I'm going to go and get something to eat. His eyes are unimpressed, and he was like leave me the hell alone
He felt better after he ate.
I miss seeing Danny Glover in movies.
Technically he still is. I also liked in Angels in the outfield. Which is somewhat recent I guess.
Jon Arnall if you count 20-something year old films as "recent" lol
If youve seen these scenes when a kid, they just dont go away,ever....
cinematic gold hands down
"Every single day I wake up and I think of a reason not to do it. Every single day."
I understand that completely.
The chemistry is spot on and Richard Donner is a great director.
That 0:42 sus "huuuuuhh" took me out like a candle in a storm.
I named my cats Riggs and Roger.
Riggs is a crazy noisy siamese wont stfu, and Roger a chilled brown burmese.
David Peter love it man
hahahaha good point!
Love it!❤😊
Rest In Peace Richard Donner!
(*Rest.!?*).!? (*!n:- Paradise.!?*).!? ✨
I don't know what it is but films from this era just seem better.
It's like writers understood what makes conflict interesting, funny, sad, emotional etc.
Also, the chemistry between Glover and Gibson is amazing.
One of the greatest film series ever. This and Rocky. Enjoyed every single movie in both series.
Stallone would be fine as Riggs too
Danny Glover and Mel Gibson were a great duo . Nobody could be better casted than these two ☺️
This scene is so intense.
0:23, The way how he slammed the door! 😂
"Don't nibbled on the barrel, pull the trigger!"
That "what you wanna hear man!" holy crap goosebumps
Riggs' eyes at 1:36 wonderful acting by Gibson
Great scene. Even better acting. Felt real
As an adult I realize Riggs and Rambo needed counseling for their depression. I swear they dont make action characters with depth like this anymore
Not to mention the character development along the series. The way these 2 characters mesh and save each other.
Absolutely man..exactly my words...those were the days...80s 90s...epitome of action genre...after clint in the 70s...
@Maniac 5000 Bruh
FrFr both of those characters needed to be in a asylum
This comment board makes me need counseling for depression. They don't make decent people anymore.
Im so glad i was around to watch that movie. I mean, kids this days that never saw this movie or die bard or back to the future. I lived it all and im thankful to that.
