Cool video! Your one of the people who inspired me to go pull 42 engines out of my local yard the last four years. Only had to bring back three..keep them coming!
I've had good luck running Sea Foam in engines to clean up a noisy lifter. It also has the added benefit I think of loosening up any gunk on the oil control rings. But, I don't have any proof of that. (I've also rolled the engine so one bank is upright and put Sea Foam in each cylinder to loosen up the rings also. Let is sit overnight, you can tell how bad the rings are by how fast it leaks down into the pan). But, it has cleaned up lifter noise on several engines I've used it on. Dump a can in and let it run 30 minutes or so and change the oil again. Been surprised how black the oil comes out also. I've never dumped it down the intake as others have suggested while running. Just my experience. ATF also has a lot of detergent in it. I've used that in the past also. A couple of quarts in with the oil and let it run at idle or low rpm for a while and drain. Nice engine stand. Working on one myself I can tow behind my truck. Be like a mobile mechanic, for people that can't come to you.
How dirty were the engines that you seafoamed? This motor is genuinely one of the cleanest motors under the valve covers that I’ve ever pulled. I’ve had motors with 1/2” of sludge in the pan and blackness under the valve covers with zero noise.
Yeah, that sludge quiets them down quite a bit also. lols. I don't buy those sludged up engines. Just because I hate the thought of having it in there. And afraid the sludge would break loose if I tried to clean it with this method. Before I installed the engine, I pull it down to the long block to replace all the oil seals and gaskets. Don't generally pull the heads either as I can fix the broken exhaust studs on the engine stand. Can't have things too clean inside and engine. Thanks for the video
My goal is to sell engines to people before I open them up, then it will be up to the customer as to how far I tear into it cleaning it up (pulling heads to change lifters etc)
I could tell, right away that this was a lifter issue. I built my engine stand using a GM LS (aftermarket universal gen III, IV, V swap controller kit) controller kit I found in a junkyard. I have a trick you should try next time: pour two capfuls of ATF right on top of the lifters, then fire it up. You might need to repeat the process 2-4 times, but it has worked every time for me.
I have a 2005 5.3 WOkittycats with a dump valve, bypasses every thing. It’s not bad until u rev it 2 the moon…..close the valve on goes thru a hurst Quite muffler…..
Great content…very helpful! Building an LQ4, switching to DBW using the TBSS intake and TB. Is it possible to rewire the 8 pin harness with the newer 6 pin plug for the TBSS TB? I grabbed the plug and harness with enough wire to reach the ECM. I know there’s a $300 Xlink adapter, just didn’t want to go that way if I can make this work. Again, great channel, great content!!
Please help I having the same problem, what did you actually do? I have replaced just about everything on the motor just to find that same noise again. Very frustrating. Please help

@@The918OBS currently only one 5.3 and two that run but one knocks, one had a tick but it cleared up. Need to run it more.
Dude is a freaking book……😂👍👍👍
It’s more convenient to just memorize all this stuff rather than have to look it up
@12:52 when he rolled the part on the dirty ground then threw it back in the engine 😅😅😅😅

Hey travis you really want to know what that noise is?? use a mechanics stethoscope you will know real quick what it is and isolate the cause
Honestly a stethoscope would probably be better than a bore scope lol.
Maybe a trunion bearing on the rocker that is cockeyed
That's what I thought too
