This was amazing! When I saw the title I thought it would be yet another video of someone putting their plants on shelves. I loved the way you worked through the issues you had. And the way you worked! I have nothing like that kind of stamina. Well done!
Janet thanks for making my Friday morning. What a sweet and motivating comment to read. Thank you so much. It was hard and I did maybe cursed once or twice silently but it was very worth it. 😅
Saying it looks like Jurassic Park is a huge compliment!❤
True 😅 currently it looks like the desert as it’s being revamped for a gecko
I am both a reptile keeper and a crazy plant lady. I am absolutely thrilled to see this video. I am 100% going to do this for my crested gecko.
It’s going to be a amazing home for your two passions
I’m planning the same thing! Don’t have a crestie yet but I figured it’d be best to set up the habitat first because I’m fussy and I know I’ll wanna fuss with it.
@@AmandaMichelleJones81 ...Amazing! You go girl! Love it
that is awesome!!
+Lyz Jones, turning the cabinet on its side and permanently attaching the lower door, would make an excellent reptile space.
“The silicone is a evil spirit” 😆 This was pretty much how my first interaction went with silicone. I only stabbed one hole, and later realized you had to stab it multiple times. Lol.
This is amazing. 🤩 I’m definitely going to need to make one like this!
Yes you do it. I have seen people recreating them and most of them turned out really beautiful
Beautiful! Your terrarium is one of the most natural/jungle looking I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing.
🥰🥰🥰
Hi Denise, i always admire those with green fingers, my Mum had green fingers but i do not, so my plants rarely survive. i have never seen such a large plant in a terrarium before, its like from the planet of the Giants...i love the driftwood you inserted inside, so beautiful. the plant is spectacular.
I VIBE WITH THIS SO MUCH😭😂🙏❤️🌲🪴
Thank you for vibing with me
I appreciate you being open and honest about your mistakes and the things you learned along the way. I now want one of these. I have two rudsta cabinets, but now I want a milsbo too
You wont regret it
Well done! Such a massive project for a first terrarium and it looks so good! Looking forward to more of your videos!!!!!
Thank you Lexi. Working on my Houseplant tour
Wow, the goodies in the terrarium... can’t wait for you plant tour!
Thank you 🙏🏾. I am working on it
I had the same issue with silicone in a caulking gun -- I was sore for days! truly an evil spirit. Beautiful finished product and such a joy to watch the process. Thank you for sharing!
It looks like it came straight from a tropical forest! Beautiful display
That is what I was hoping for. Thanks Steven
I learned that a felt pocket wall works much nicer to achieve what look you were after, the trouble with moss covering bare areas can be easily overcome with clever plant choices and arrangement.
Yes and the plants exploded with growth covering areas.
At the time when I built it I was actually the very first one to transform the ikea cabinet into a Terrarium for Plants so there wasn’t anyone I could have turned to for inspiration using felt pockets. But since I uploaded it there are so many people who rebuilt it and came up with awesome ideas from felt pockets to using all coir and such more that I will take inspo for the next terrarium that I am building.
You are a true inspiration. Thank you for sharing all of the challenges and your solutions. It is all very helpful, and enjoyable to watch!
Thank you Steve 🥰
OMG gurl you have given me so many ideas! thank you so much for this gorgeous vlog! I just happened to come across your channel and Im glad I did!
Thanks for the huge compliment. I love seeing all the terrariums inspired by this one. If you happen to post it on insta tag me would love to check it out
This looks spectacular.
Thank you so much
I love this!!!!!!!!!!! This is a future dream project for me
I can highly recommend it. Spring and Summer is a great time to do it. Plus you will have propagations ready.
DENISE!!!! That Is beautiful!!!! Great job, I am so impressed and can't wait for an update. I'm getting inspired!!
Thanks for all the nice words. 😚🥰
OMG!!!! Absolutely love love love!!!!! Well now I have a new project to do. So gonna do this!!!!
So happy you like it. Can’t wait to see your finished product. Don’t forget to tag me.
this video is the deffintion of "trust the process" st first I was like awe you wrecked the cabinet and then I was like nopre she made it better!
Thank you. Yes it was a process and being the first to make the ikea cabinet a terrarium i run into issues i had to solve alone. Now with so many others build in the past years and people that came up with great solutions the cabinets are getting better and better this one which I call the OG as it was the first ever is currently being revamped with a water feature to hold geckos. It will take a few more weeks and should be done soon.
“The silicone is an evil spirit” LOL so true. Thank you for this informative video!
Thank you for watching Morgan 🥰
I can't use those caulk guns either so I use the tubes, like toothpaste tubes it's less painful. You did a great job.
I am definitely getting those next time around. Thanks for the tip Lynne
WOW! OMG girl! Gorgeous!!
Thank you for all your experience and generosity honey! xoxo
Maria you know how to lift someone up!! Thank you so much 🥰
@@Tropicalseductions ...but its true! xoxo💕💕👍
Just awesome. You have done an amazing job. Could you do an update on what it looks like now? Please.
Wow that is crazy. That's really beautiful.
Thanks Felix 🙏🏾
So much work, you are amazing!
Thank youuuuuuu
Wow such a huge undertaking! Looks amazing Denise! 🥰 very detailed.
Yay it was so worth it
🍀🍀🍀 so flipping cool!!
Thanks Ranny
This definitely a lot of work but all worth it , I love how it turns out . Amazing project here and thank you for sharing .
Thank you Myra I am really proud of it
Was thinking about using one of these as a new terrarium build. I had the same idea of using one of the shelves to create a barrier at the bottom, but wasn't sure it would work. Thanks to you I now know it does. :) It turned out very nice. Thanks for the detailed video!
So glad I could be of help. Yes don’t forget to use rust spray. I mention it in the description but forgot to put it in the video. It was the very first thing I did even before doing the barrier.
Lol ‘ The silicone is an evil spirit’ 😄
Wow you did an amazing job!!! Super impressed! Looks amazing!
Keila thank you so much. I really pushed hard for the first one. Hearing all the positive feedback really makes my days.
wow ... a very nice job 👍 beautiful! 😍
Thank you Natascha 🌱🌱🌱
Beautiful design. I appreciated seeing the whole process.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
I like it! I really like it! Love from Canada.
Thank you Sharon 🥰🥰🥰
Such a beatifull collection!. I believe for my experience that the only bad thing about terrarium, is that you are never really satisfied with the result. there is alway something , a never ending build.
😂 yes I agree it’s never ending
"That fern is the evil one" 😂
What type of fern is that?
Beautiful tank. Jealous of your plants!
It didn’t survive
@@Tropicalseductions the tank or the evil fern?
I love this! I missed living close to an idea. They had some great stuff
They really do.
Came out great! Those Hdx caulk guns suck. This is super helpful, its like you have a 6x4 window into an actual rainforest. He is so right, Jurassic Park 4 real 🤣🤣
I wish I would have spend some extra dollars for a gun I would have saved an hour of work. He even placed in some Dinosaur 🦕 after I finished.
Super gorgeous!!!!!!
Thank you Iris 😀
Stunning!!
Thank you Elina 🌱🌱🌱🌱
The little hole on the silicone gun handle will cut the tip off the silicone tube when you squeeze the handle.
This is absolutely gorgeous. What a wonderful job you did! If only I had space for one of these!! 🌿👍❤
I did had to remove a shelf for it. It was worth it definitely. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
I really enjoyed your project, Your passion is so contagious!!! Thank you very much, it´s people like you that restore my faith in humanity. Ten out of ten, Five stars, Two thumbs up, one big high five, one big smiley face and three exs, 10/10, xxx, *****, :-)
Wow 😳 your positivity and uplifting spirit shines through the screen. Thank you so much I really appreciate it 🥰
This looks lovely, much nicer than the plastic tomato house I have in my bedroom, so I might have to look at replacing that with one of these units. As it would have automated watering I would put a strip of thick clear plastic behind one of the doors so water couldn't seep out, which is what I had to do with my Exo Terra terrarium. It's really useful to see what people have done that didn't work as well as what did, so thank you for showing that. I would say if it took you 20 minutes to drill through the thickness of that metal you might have been using the wrong kind of drill bit. (For comparison, I had to drill through both sides of a thick metal upright on a rotary clothes line and it only took me about 5 minutes to do both holes using a drill bit designed to drill through metal. Starting it off was the tricky bit, especially as it was vertical but a bit of sticky tape helped there.)
I am pretty sure I didn’t know what drill bit to use 😅. I don’t even own a drill I lend it from a friend. I didn’t expected it to take that long of course.
Love this, just started a plant collection myself and this is an awesome idea😃
Thank you Kholi and welcome to the plant community
Thank you so much Denise! im on my journey to make one right now!
You are going to make a beautiful one. Enjoy the process Ryan
Absolutely stunning!
I'm dreaming about building one one day 😊 but for now I'll watch your video and imagine it in my home 😂❤❤
Thank you so much Malva! I heard that the Cabinet was sold out but is getting stocked again.
$40 for that piece of Manzanita wood is such a good deal!
Holy shit thats badass!! Goos job girl!!! Gave me some great ideas
Thanks Anthony! I am just waiting for the day when I own a house to built giant Greenhouse
Any chance you have a video on how you planted the plants?
They are not planted just attached with paperclips 🖇 to the foam. These are mostly Aroids and they don’t need to be in soil. I wrapped some moss around the roots and pinned the plants to the background
Wow I might make this for a horticulture project
Absolutely go for it
This is magnificent! Absolutely love this! Would be interested in seeing updates and what upkeep is like on this. I just found your channel so apologies if you have that on your channel.
Its beautiful!! Great job
Thank you Lisa for the compliment 🥰
This looks so amazing, I love what you did! Thank you for sharing the whole process including the things that didn't go so well and how you adjusted; it's really inspiring! If you haven't already you might want to cover the edges where you drilled into the metal and passed the wire through to prevent the cord from being damaged and becoming an electrical hazard. I admire your perseverance to make that opening with that tool. Now that you've had it up for awhile, if you had to do it over again is there anything you'd do differently?
Thank you Kaitlyn. I am actually redoing it. Already removed all the plants. I am not changing much of the design but I will be adding a water source and a few other things. I hope to have the video ready soon. I didn’t had issues with the cord so far but totally agree with you.
@@Tropicalseductions I've fallen madly in love with your genius creation and want to try this myself for all my delicate plants. There is something called a bulkhead fitting used for pipes. It will give you a very nice clean and round hole to pass the wires through safely with no sharp edges. You might opt for a black plastic one which you can trim if it is too long. Just make sure the opening of the bulkhead fitting is big enough for the wires - they come in a variety of sizes. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks for the tip I am still struggling with it and it is taking me way to long this time. I am looking into the pipes. Hope yours is coming along
This is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this process!!
Thanks for watching and appreciating it Carlie
So 7-8 months on how is your setup? Would be super interested in hearing an update on your terrarium!
I would love to see an update of this!
I know I am actually redoing it completely I am half way through hope to have it finished soon
Denise Brown Tropical Seductions What is the reason are you redoing it? I am sure you will soon ! :)
It was drying out to fast! It was getting to time consuming misting the moss on the wall. The moss and the soil on the bottom didn’t had the issue.
Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing! I have an old aquarium tank and am thinking about doing something like this, but on a small scale.
Wow it looks so amazing! Well done Denise, it's a masterpiece 💚🌿 Love it!
You are to kind. Thanks for always supporting me
Purely awesome , and a great price too, think Im gonna make a vivarium or reptile habitat out of that too, thx for making this video. So the silicone wasnt coming out very easy, I was thinking it was that the tip of the tube, where the oooze comes out, if you were to cut that down a bit lower, mine came out thick as I just finished a 40gal conversion kit. Though I was watching mike tytula making a chameleon cage , he didnt use silicone and used drylock instead, he states drylock doesnt stink like silicone and looks nicer as it ages. Ty again!!!
The silicon defeated me definitely. Drylock sounds interesting I will have to look into it for my next project. So jealous would love to add some reptiles
beautiful work! thank you for sharing!
Thank you for appreciating it
Really cool!
WoW it’s absolutely amazing!!!! Love it!!!!
Thank you Annie! That means a lot.
I love it
Looks awesome Denise 💚👍🏼
Thanks Cynthia! Glad you like it
Totally going to do this!
You totally should. Would love to see it when it’s done
Will love an update soon 🥰😍
Definitely Adriana! A lot of new growth already
i heart this soooo much!!!!!!
wow, that came out amazing!
Thank you so much Joy. 😳
This really inspires me to make my own cabinet but I have no idea about plants haha.
Do you have to replace the moss in the cabinet at all? I can't imagine that being very fun.
You won’t regret it and will be so much fun
You have to keep it moist but no if you use living moss you won’t have too
amazing
Thanks Dovi much appreciated 🌱
Great project! Hopefully it’s performing well so far.
Thank you so much. Yes it’s still holding up
Pings will help with the gnats get the big ones
Thanks for the tip much appreciated
Does anyone else rewatch this just to gawk 😂
Thanks grace 🥰
This is freaking AMAZING 😍 💚
Yay glad you liked it 🥰🥰🥰
Looks good for your first time making one, try finding some nano and micro plants they will help fill in the gaps
Yes gap fillers are the key. Thank you T
This is amazing! A personal forest ❤
Exactly I wish I could switch places with the plants.
Wow this is amazing!
Thank you that means a lot
that's so cool! what a great idea :)
Thank you @pamstrplants all the plants are freaking loving it
Nice job. Why did you left that hole in the background, i don't see the point of glass window if you're going to display a white wall behind.
Thanks Alex ! It’s for my own aesthetic satisfaction. It doesn’t have any special care benefits.
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you like it. Thanks for watching Romelle
Hello from Puerto Rico!!! First timer on your channel Nd loved the terrarium. I have a fish tank terrarium and love it. My channel is in spanish but can be captioned. Enjoy!! Just subscribed. 🪴🌿🌱
That came out beautiful D. Fly gnats are the biggest pain
Pam Yay thanks. I got luckily that the yellow sticky tapes are on sale on amazon.
Looks good, what's the evil fern species?
It’s dead Derek it had to go. The wood piece had actual slugs 🐌 in them that started to eat neighboring plants. I knew something was awful wrong with it 😂. Sorry but I really did forget the name maybe caused by all the drama it but me through
What kind of mood did you use ? Especially the one that came in the small planter
Any updates. Did the bugs and mold get too bad. I had a number of fgkids just on tiny pots.. Thks
I absolutely love this!!
Chanel thank you that means a lot. I am super proud of it😳🥰
Great idea 💡
Thank you so much 😊
This was so helpful thank you!!
Glad to hear that Divena! Are you building one yourself?
Hi, did you encounter issues with mold due to insufficient airflow or fresh air intake? Can't wait to see how it is doing now :)
You can see it in the video that I added a clip on fan. I clip it on the glass and it’s battery operated but the ones that you can charge with electricity. So I do have air circulation and no mold so far.
amaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzng!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow thanks for the compliment 😊
Jurassic park was set in the rain forest of an island in the Gulf of Mexico. So if it looked like Jurassic park then rain forest achieved.
😂 thank you I needed that
When using a silicon gun like this it works by applying pressure on the tube with the spring. Whhen you are ready using it you should release the pressure by pressing the metal clip at the back of the gun. This will release the spring pressure. If you do that you wont have the problems you had ;). But your terrarium looks really awesome great job!
That Gun gave me so many mental breakdowns 😂. Thanks Ray
This is amazing!!!! I hope you don’t mind if I steal this idea for my frogs 🐸
Please do! I love seeing all the the Ikea Terrariums and what others made differently there are quite a few people who have rebuilt it it makes me very proud. your frogs will love it.
Hi Denise, any chance you could list your soil stages, please? I've used a fish tank to create my first one, which I'm quite happy with but I want something bigger now :) Got bit by the terrarium bug. I love yours so much
I even want something bigger now 😬😂. First I want to mention that most of the plants are Aroids which doesn’t need soil to grow. I added charcoal add the ground then coco coir but non of the roots or plants reaches that deep this is just for helping soaking moisture. The I added my first layer of orchid bark and coco coir mix on top of that I added the soil mixture
Which is 40 charcoal, 40 orchid bark, 10 coco coir and 10 cactus mix. Super airy to prevent root rot.
Thank you so much for your answer. Quite helpful and I will certainly use this advice on my next one. Also, will you add another video on how your plants are doing? I would love to see it 💖
This is sooo cool!!!
Thank you. I had the best time building it.
Hey Denise! Found your channel because of this amazing Milsbo Cabinet. I was lucky to get one 50% off and bought it before I studied terrarium grow lights.. a guide just told me that milsbo-height is „legendarily difficult“ to get the lighting correct.. but most terrariums I saw have a grow light under the top, while having issues with the plants that grow close to it.. or not having enough light an the ground.. that’s why your lights from the front caught my attention… are you still happy with your choice? Do all plants get sufficient light? Why did you just install them in the upper part? Should I longer ones that go further down?
Would also love an update on yours (:
Leafy love from Germany ^^
Tim
I did added light from above and the front that I attached on the sides of the doors. Light was not an issue at all. Keeping the wall humidit enough was the real issue. I had to mist every other day so adding a water feature is what I would change if I would redo it. I also had plants growing from the bottom but I had to change to plants that climb up so they can reach for the light.
It’s really great work by you I like the video if only you added some more different colour plants it will enhance the look try adding bromeliads and air plants. Over all it’s good work done. I too make terrariums but I really wanna make as big as you made. Good job 👍🏻
thank you
