      I don't understand people trying to spread veganism through the appeal to being "on the right side of history".
      Nutrition, environment, and oh yeah, the needless torture of sentient, intelligent creatures that have the capacity to suffer and fear death like we do.
      Plenty of good reasons to switch to a plant-based lifestyle that don't involve an appeal to vanity or ego.

    • @drunkvegangal8089
      @drunkvegangal8089 3 роки тому +18

      @@mikean7074 "The right side of history" need not appeal to vanity or ego. Opposing slavery and not supporting fascism are examples of average people being on the "right side of history". Nothing wrong with defying oppression. In pointing out that there is a "wrong side of history" one employs a type of 'verbal shorthand' that refers to a historical body of human endevours which turned out to advance justice, integrity, equality, compassion, and recognition that some people were 'ahead of their time'. In these ways people demonstrate that there is oppression and injustice being tolerated and, since one person rebels, it establishes that others need not take part in it either. I hope this helps you understand why some people might say the phrase.

    I heard about that story. It particularly interested me as I am Canadian. Shows how much what we eat affects our milk (humans and other mammals) especially with how blithely society looks at milk as a whole. The consider it "natural" and "unprocessed" but this case clearly indicates that what the cows are fed highly impacts the milk on the shelves - and you can bet that conventionally raised cows are fed whatever happens to fatten them up and increase milk production at the lowest cost.

    Butter in winter is often harder, paler in color and bland tasting due to necessary changes in feed, and an increase in long-chain fatty acid content. But not all brands of butter have this flaw. It's not as bad as if they had adulterated the butter directly. Apparently palmitic acid is what humans make out of sugar. The chain length and less CLA increase the melting point.

    So where to find retinol if you don't eat eggs, butter or liver? I eat these every day and still lacking. I see difference when eat liver for few days. Skin a lot less dry, the same with eyes. I can't imagine relying on carotenoids conversion. Although i eat quite much of greens and carrots.

    There's a lot of reading to do regarding how cows get and make fats, I have gone down that rabbit hole and it was full of bacteria... This is actually part of the CH4 enteric emissions issue, as the bacteria that produce that methane are among those who also make SFA. And, indeed, feeding cows a diet higher in fat bypasses those bacteria. I encourage you to merge the learning you did for enteric fermentation with this one, it's quite fascinating. I was looking into it when there was discussion about banning trans-fats in foods above a specific concentration... which were matching concentrations in butter and cheese (but somehow these were not getting banned...).

    3:58 - Note on the chart - that there is both ^Palm Kernal Oil (2nd from top) & * Palm Oil (10th from top)
    What is the difference between ^Palm kernel oil & *Palm Kernal oil
    Palm oil comes from the palm fruit - 51.5% of the fat in palm oil is saturated fat
    Palm kernel oil is extracted from the palm seed - 86% percent of the fat in palm kernel oil is saturated fat
    Another Human Health Impacting Aspect of Palm Oil is talked of here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_oil
    Glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE), 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD, are found especially in palm oils and palm fats because of their refining at high temperatures (approx. 200 °C (392 °F)).[152] Since glycidol, the parent compound of GE, is considered genotoxic and carcinogenic, the EFSA didn't set a safe level for GE. According to the chair of the CONTAM (EFSA’s expert Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain), "The exposure to GE of babies consuming solely infant formula is a particular concern as this is up to ten times what would be considered of low concern for public health".[152] The EFSA's tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 3-MCPD and its fatty acid esters was set to 0.8 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day (µg/kg bw/day) in 2016 and increased to 2 µg/kg bw/day in 2017, based on evidence linking this substance to organ damage in animal tests and on possible adverse effects on the kidney and on male fertility.[152][153] According to the EFSA, there is not enough data to set a safe level for 2-MCPD.[152]

And apart from the moral considerations of animal exploitation, animal agriculture is the most inefficient way to feed humans. And the more 'humane' the animals are treated in life (humane slaughterhouses are a myth) the worse for the environment, for our planet. The only planet we have. Animal agriculture is unsustainable by it's very nature.
      With small human populations of the past, it didn't pose such a problem, but massive human population growth has brought us to the point where we are feeding and killing over 50 billion farm animals annually but can't feed 8 billion people anymore. And we are making our own environment toxic in the process. We are literally eating ourselves into extinction.

They might have just increased the amount of palm oil enough to tip the butter over the hardness edge, but maybe they've been using palm oil in feed for a while. Since palm oil is used as a cheap additive in so many of our processed foods, I'm not surprised they supplement livestock feed with it, and now I want all the facts and stats about this so I can better understand how pervasive this is 😈 so that I can arm myself with the data

They justify this since these living beings supposedly don’t feel pain because they don’t have a central nervous system. I suppose they are making them out to being like plants? What’s the deal with that?
