As a man I have noticed that there is a part of me that has been programmed into feeling that crying and showing/feeling emotion is shameful because it is wrongly associated with weakness. And I think that the meaning of this skit is trying to touch upon that beyond just this particular movie scenario. This stuff needs to be talked about more.
@@Mintstar_Oceanpopit’s a cultural thing for men. Stoicism and general lack of emotional expressiveness are associated with “masculinity” it can create some pretty toxic attitudes in the right circumstances.
Yeah, as a woman I've been thinking recently about this weird pride I take in the fact that I pretty much never cry nowadays (like, not even when I suddenly had to put my cat down...) Like, it's obvs about how much I've been distracting and disconnecting to just get through the day, esp my job, at the cost of barely experiencing life. There's not a single positive aspect to it. Yet there's this part of me that still believes it's a good thing, I guess basically because crying's what women (and babies) do and the less feminine I am the stronger & more rational & capable it means I am. Ugh.
This was me, as a grown man watching Up with two buddies - the palpable tension in the air when the wife died as all three of us desperately willed ourselves to have no outward signs of an emotional response. Super healthy masculinity yup.

I will never understand people who are like “You cried?? HA weakling, i felt nothing. You have emotions?” Like its a flex. You being traumatized and insensitive to sadness isnt a flex
In a recent Pitch Meeting recap video Ryan talked about swearing, and how he uses it sparingly in unexpected moments for comedic effect. 0:36 is a PERFECT example of that! It caught me so off guard that I actually started laughing out loud!
I think we've all had friends or family like this. I finally realized I don't care what they think or say. How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Up make me cry every time. No shame about it at all.
This is a very accurate reenactment of what happened when we watched Charlotte's Web in third grade. However, I argue that if you don't at least have a tear at the end, then you're a monster.
This was my head whenever I yawned while watching a movie in elementary school. I tear when I yawn, so when I wiped my eyes this is what I was always afraid of happening.
I'm always rubbing my eyes and sniffling even in the best of times, and I'm always afraid people will think I'm crying. I don't have anything against crying in a movie, but if people are going to think I'm crying during a movie, I want it to be because I'm actually crying.
As someone who has never been able to hold on my tears and who, basically, used to cry a lot, this is one fear I don't have at all. X'D When I need to cry, I just cry, no matter where.
This is exactly how that situation plays out in my head lol. 'I can't rub my eye. What if they laugh? Do they think I'm weak? We're watching a movie about personified emotions! And what if I sniff or clear my throat? Then what? They'll think I'm a little baby? Maybe they'll think I have COVID? They'll never speak to me again!'
The COVID thing has been a relatable thought that's gone through my head in recent months whenever I'm in public, and I feel a sneeze coming on, or a tickle in the back of my throat from something I ate.
As a girl I was never taught to keep my emotions inside (like seriously how are you supposed to learn to handle strong emotions when you're ignoring small ones ? That sounds like self-sabotaging to me but whatever) and crying in front of an emotional scene was my criteria for quality. But I can't cry to them anymore which is too bad.
@@keerya4179 yes but while we ladies are allowed to cry by society, we are still told emotions are the antithesis of logical & rational thought. They become some weird “proof” to men that we are “weaker, softer, & feminine” So, really our side of the coin may look a little different but it was minted with the same press & still spends the same.
I thought this was going to be about how you look away from the screen for 1 second and somehow miss the most important clue or piece of information in the entire movie.

I see it now. This is a good formula. You take what was probably a real life embarrassing moment and then you retell and turn it up to 11. How empowering. Go you.
The doctor and boy duo in the movie were pure comedy! and the part: "I have never shown emotion in my life" ... "Noted I will put that on the record. Congrats on that". aw so perfectly articulated 👌🏽

I'm crying with joy that I saw another Ryan George classic!
I have never related to a video so much. I only rub my eye when there’s an emotional scene, even if I’m not crying
😂😂😂 as someone who has been crying a lot lately, this helped them be tears of joy ❤
Hell, a good commercial will make me cry. I've been chuckled at, even from my own wife.
I wonder if it's a "man" thing or a "cultural" thing.
@@Mintstar_Oceanpopit’s a cultural thing for men. Stoicism and general lack of emotional expressiveness are associated with “masculinity” it can create some pretty toxic attitudes in the right circumstances.
If you want to cry do It in the shower my dude.
Yeah, as a woman I've been thinking recently about this weird pride I take in the fact that I pretty much never cry nowadays (like, not even when I suddenly had to put my cat down...)
Like, it's obvs about how much I've been distracting and disconnecting to just get through the day, esp my job, at the cost of barely experiencing life. There's not a single positive aspect to it.
Yet there's this part of me that still believes it's a good thing, I guess basically because crying's what women (and babies) do and the less feminine I am the stronger & more rational & capable it means I am. Ugh.
@@Suzanne4415crying is like sewing, immensely useful but since it’s associated with women, men demean it.
ryan always coming at us with these ultra relatable experiences like it's super easy, barely an inconvenience
This was me, as a grown man watching Up with two buddies - the palpable tension in the air when the wife died as all three of us desperately willed ourselves to have no outward signs of an emotional response. Super healthy masculinity yup.
Oh wow, that was the most memorable scene from that entire movie that I otherwise mostly forgot. It was just heartbreaking and I still mourn for both of them when I think about it. I so want to take that pain away from him and give them both the happy family life they so deserved😢
Pixar movies really have mastered the whole “killing off a character while deeply emotional music is playing” thing.
I saw it with my wife and felt no shame from weeping openly. I don't know how I would have been seeing it with other men.
@@stephen3164 I'm glad I wasn't the only one to feel like that scene was soulless manipulation. I was disappointed that the "saddest scene eva" was just a 2 minutes slideshow with minor chords playing in the background.
@@williamjenkins4913 - while watching any Disney movie now, my son and I try to guess which parent is gonna get “Disney’d off”. Makes it pretty funny.
I used to rub my eyes a lot during my emotional scenes to hide my crying, but now I just let the tears roll freely. lol
These skits should be called "Documentaries" Mr Ryan. 😀 you always make the best content!
You just made my day. Thank you :)
I think we've all had friends or family like this. I finally realized I don't care what they think or say. How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Up make me cry every time. No shame about it at all.
1:25 "Don't hiss at me, that's very strange." "Yeah."
i thought he said “Nyelm…”. just random noise
The way he said it killed me 😂😂😂😂😂
Ryan is a comical genius and you can't deny that
I could deny that. It would be super easy.
@@thegreenxeno9430 barely an inconvenience?
I love his content a lot, but this one was dumb.
Yes, I can. A "comical genius" would be a genius that is funny, like Einstein. Ryan is a genius at comedy.
This is a very accurate reenactment of what happened when we watched Charlotte's Web in third grade. However, I argue that if you don't at least have a tear at the end, then you're a monster.
If you aren't bawling by the end then there is something wrong with you
pardon me being a monster
in my defense i didn't watch the movie until i was past my 30s and dead to most types of stimuli
Ryan's portrayal brought a tear to my eye.
How dare you, you piece of a trash. Ryan’s portrayals are leave me emotionally void, as they should for ALL grown ups
This was my head whenever I yawned while watching a movie in elementary school. I tear when I yawn, so when I wiped my eyes this is what I was always afraid of happening.
I fully expected one of the two to cry at the end, but Ryan is as great at subverting expectations as always
The amount of shame I feel from this situation is unmatched
Looking like I’m crying because I rub my eyes is super easy, barely an inconvenience
Ryan makes me tear up too... from laughing!!
as a man, I to would wish it be known, that I am void of emotion, and am not now crying from laughter.
I'm always rubbing my eyes and sniffling even in the best of times, and I'm always afraid people will think I'm crying. I don't have anything against crying in a movie, but if people are going to think I'm crying during a movie, I want it to be because I'm actually crying.
"crying such as babies are known to do" ah yes very human
“I’m gonna breast feed’em” 😂 totally caught me off guard 😅
As someone who has never been able to hold on my tears and who, basically, used to cry a lot, this is one fear I don't have at all. X'D When I need to cry, I just cry, no matter where.
Thank you, they keep getting funnier and the acting keeps getting better.
the callback to "the first guy to shoplift/steal" video was amazing, well done!
As a cat fan, I appreciate the inclusion of hissing and other cat-adjacent noises. It calms me. 3 stars
I cry of laughter every time I watch a Ryan sketch and i'm not ashamed to admit it dammit!
The only weak people are the ones who are too weak to accept/show their emotions or truly be themselves
They become some weird “proof” to men that we are “weaker, softer, & feminine”
So, really our side of the coin may look a little different but it was minted with the same press & still spends the same.
@@katdenning6535 Women are weaker than men though, in every way. That's not a bad thing though
I thought this was going to be about how you look away from the screen for 1 second and somehow miss the most important clue or piece of information in the entire movie.
Man, it’s always great to see footage from the all-time classic “Jurassic Park!”
Great movie! Lotta swearing though…
I’ve never seen videos I relate to more than yours lol
As someone with allergies, this is extremely relatable
Bruh, they said they were devoid of all emotion, yet they were CERTAIN and STUBBORN about him crying. Look at their faces!! 1:46 Tell me there's no emotion 😂
The "Jurassic Park" clip was from another one of his earlier sketches about the first guy to ever shop lift 🤣🤣🤣 Ryan is awesome, and he always cracks me up!
I love how it's the same movie from The First guy to shoplift. Really expands the Ryanverse
Honestly relatable. I'm always terrified of showing emotion while watching something, unless somebody else shows it first (eg: laughter).
My fiancée's trying to teach me it's okay, and she says it feels like deprograming an ex-cult member 😅
Man. That park is super f**king jurassic.
0:06 The kid looking up at the doctor hopefully was the itchiest part of the movie for my eyes.
Glad I'm not the only one to make sure the rubbing of my eye does not look like I'm wiping a tear away!
I'll be honest, up until I was like 18 movies couldn't make me cry. Now I'll cry at the slightest sweet/sad thing in a movie, it drives me crazy lol
Embrace it. It makes you a healthier person.
Something similar happened to me I could only cry when I was like older than 10 (And then I developed a personality disorder that numbs my emotions so I don't cry anymore but that's another story) when I was younger no movie could make me cry.
@@greggs1067 Do you mean it makes you a healthier person to not hide your emotions (which I agree with) or do you mean they're a healthier person than they were before because they now cry all the time at movies? (Which would be nonsense)
@@Vaquix000 My response was a bit terse. I meant that you need some healthy way to decompress your emotions, and crying at movies is one of them. There are other ways for sure. I just wonder how many people are toxic in public places and forums because they didn't allow themselves a more healthy way to process the stresses of life.
No, crying at every movie is not necessary.
not gonna lie I think about this exact scenario every time my eye itches in a movie theater lol
I openly cry during certain movies and songs. Not sobbing or anything, but a single voice crack followed by a tough man Chad tear.
For reasons unknown, my eye waters A LOT. So, unfortunately, this video is very true in my life; I've had similar conversations. I feel like Ryan is on MY side, so thanks!!! 🥰🤗
This skit was comedy gold, but it also made feel better about watching many movies alone…
If someone makes fun of you for not being a robot, then you _should_ watch movies alone until you find someone who has grown tf up.
@@catbatrat1760 Nah, assert your dominance and watch the movies and tell the guys the truth, that is when is the time you cry for real and when is the time your eyes feel itchy.
I mean, watching the movies alone because you're scared of being made fun of for being a normal human? That's the opposite of being free and self-assured.
Having been born in the late 70s this is 100% accurate to how people have treated men showing emotion my entire childhood up to my 40s.
I love how Ryan randomly becomes PG-13. 0:37 😂
Yea that came out of nowhere bro
I love the continuity of the Ryanverse. I was rewatching some old sketches the past few days and randomly saw the sketch with this "Jurassic Park" scene in it. I believe it was the one with the first guy to ever steal something. Ryan, never change!
I expected the twist at the end to be that they start crying because they're staring at him without blinking, to try and catch him cry
This is bout to be relatable
Edit: this park is Fu*king Jurassic🤣🤣🤣
