I’ve never had a double drop rig snap on me and also I caught a huge bull red with one a while back. They make several kinds, you have to get the right one. The popping cork you picked up, those serve a purpose, they are meant to be adjustable/ don’t have to re-tie a knot when making adjustments on how deep or shallow the ocean is and how far you want your bait to dropdown.
Thank you so much. I shop all the time at Walmart for my tackle. I have lost many fish (big fish) and now realize it may be from the rigging I have set up. I am still learning at 63 and a gal!

Agreed !... only thing I do buy is locking snaps ...but I only buy highest quality ( expensive) snaps and smallest possible for the leader lb test I’m using ( not for hooks !).. when I need a swivel in there and a quick detach....also not for anything over 20 lb test....never had a snap fail before a leader once I found the right brand !!!

Snap swivels are good for homade dropper rigs to put weights and change fast to another one I agree that tying directly into hooks and lures are a bad idea I personally think that beginners like them because you make 1 knot and you are done but manufacturers need to especially tell every items purpose and the reason why. Also I did not used lures but bought them just because then I stared using the spoon because I wanted to catch redfish then I started to catch a lot of fish (expect redfish) and currently is my favorite lure and I have caught ladyfish, whiting,Spanish mackerel and jack so I’m buying new ones to try them and I’m gaining trust on lures
Any good fisherman worth their salt should know how to make their own rigs without ever having to buy anything pre-made. Like u showed it can easily be done by buying individual components and putting all together plus you can customize it for whatever fish you want by changing test lb line or using mono/fluoro/braid and different oz weights and hook sizes and tying good knots you trust!!
Good info! If you really want to take your fishing to the next level you need to learn 3 or 4 knots, and start making your own rigs. The only knots I use are the Canoe mans loop knot, Clinch knot, Palomar knot, Uni knot and dropper loops for my pomp rigs.
Those bobbers your talking about weighted or not, are very cheap and you can customize it to your own liking, especially if your looking for good casting distances for mac's or runners. Buying the ones that are already weighted are too light for casting into the wind.
Prospecting equipment is the same if it has anything to do with prospecting it's more expensive and you can get things at a fraction of the price. I guess the equivalent to "catches fisherman but not fish", is "don't mine gold, sell shovels" lol. That said the local fish store to me, sold me a few of the premade line sets, with the words, never buy them again. Just use them as templates going forward. For someone who fishes not very often, it has been great advice. I might go once every 6-8 months, and so never really remember how to set each one up. But using the premades as a template works wonders.
Dude you are spot on the snap swivels. I been telling my brother for 40 years not to use those dann things. He has lost a butt load of expensive lures of mine. He all ways puts them in the terminal tackle but now they somehow always seem to be left at home (Damon I hate that) but carp happens
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I wasn't even thinking about when a lure gets snagged the snaps pull out from the pressure, great view point! I'd rather straighten a hook out and get the lure back, ha ha...
Wow, thanks JC for the tips and info, I used to buy those rigs until I started making my own. I never liked that finger mullet dry bait anyway, I never saw the point in them. I also needed an experts opinion on those gulf rigs(the black rigs) as well. I thought they were good for the surf but what you said made complete sense about them. Thanks a lot man. Once a subscriber, always a subscriber!!!👌👍
I used to buy small white glow in the dark plastic minnows. I swear by these things and can't find them anywhere. I fish off a pier that has lights shining into the water to attract fish. I charge up the glow in the dark minnows and cast out with a couple of split shot BB sinkers to give it a lil weight and Bam, every time white or speckled trout. A small treble hook with only a small enough piece of market shrimp or cut bait to cover the barbs will work also, just not be seen as well as the glow bait. The whiter the flesh the better. If I catch baby trout they become catfish bait but this method also catches fine size eating trout.
Nothing worng with snap swivels just gotta get a good brand. I use them in East coast of Australia for offshore trolling, bull shark fishing and squid fishing. Just know what your buying and you'll be fine
I can agree with the premade leaders. I use them all the time just due to almost everything in the ocean has teeth lol. Ive had hooks straighten before the leader did, i dont have to keep cutting line cause it gets freyed. But i dont buy ones with beads just steel leaders. Ive pulled in shark from florida to red bulls in the texas gulf. When hung up ive had to cut line before my leader gave.
I don't buy pre made rigs anymore. I just make my own. And not hard at all to do. Pre made rigs work but it's a satisfying feeling you get when hooking up a nice fish made by your own hands
I don't like pre-tied rigs for the following reasons: 1. I don't know what test line those are, and even if I do, most of the time they used the wrong one i'd use. 2. The hooks they tied - I don't know what quality those are and many times it's the wrong size I want' to use. 3. Just the whole thing- I noticed that the few pre-rigs I purchased (and learned my lesson not to buy more) , the leader are too short. I like to plan out my rig, based on where I fish, whether it's 1 hook or 2 hook setup and the weight also matters, depending on the strength of the the current or or how rocky and snaggy the bottom is. Basically it's all circumstantial and I haven't made a rig that works everywhere, I usually adjust my setup to the situation and the fish I'm after.
Thanks for the tip. What leader size, length of leader, hook size do you rig with? Do you use a weight and how do you hook the finger mullet? In your experience have you had just as much luck with the dried mullet as with live bait for catching Snook? I've only caught "one" Snook on dead bait in my life and that was on a shrimp tail when I was chumming for Sheepshead and Snapper.
when I was first starting out my tackle box was huge and full of rusting tackle that rarely got used. now my tackle box fits in my pocket. okay, it's a cargo pants pocket but the point is less is more
I use snap selves all the time off shore when your trolling they actually help a lot for connecting your planners while you troll or for your down riggers you just need to get the right ones
Nice video man. I have a very similar list of things I would never buy. Those items are a waste of time and money. Especially hose prerigged leaders. Such a waste of money. Keep up the good work.
Good video ! Those bobbers are only good for plugging holes in the boat, LOL ! I only buy oil and filters for the Jeep at Walmart. 60 check out lines and no one is ever home.
I do a lot of deep sea fishing. I love grouper fishing and I tie my own bottom rigs. I always use snap swivels. Never had one to fail. I never target amber jack or sharks but when you fish for grouper you have them take your bait. I have caught dozens and dozens of amber jack 70 lbs or more. Hell I got a 14 foot tiger shark to the boat. No failure. But I don't use brass, steal that have the snap.
Great video. Just subscribed. I agree with everything you say in the video. My dad taught me how to make my own rigs when I was a kid and its super easy
The orange and white BOBBERS are not bobbers at all they are agitators, they work as a popping rig and usually fished with a trailing leader with a lure to mimic bait fish hitting the top of the water swimming to avoid feeding fish. We use these all of the time during the white bass run and any fish that is chasing bait fish at the top of the water. The agitator is tied on as so the large mouth of the rig is coming towards the fisherman.
Great video mate! I love these honest and straight forward opinion videos that focus on content over videography production. There will always be a place on youtube for these videos!
Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate your views. I try to mix things up a bit. If the fishing's good it's usually nonstop action. When the fishing's so, so...well a little more videography. When the weather's bad I will make videos like this to fill in.
This is the first of your videos that I have watched and just from this one video I am definitely going to subscribe and I I think you are a great guy you are so upbeat and full of joy
Your videos are excellent... Watched a couple so far. I was forced to subscribe and hit the bell because I want to continue learning...Just great.. Thanks Sy
If you are using a fishfinder rig (sliding weight with a simple leader at the end) a snap swivel or "sinker slide" does well for that. But for rigs like the first premade rig he showed, a good end loop knot like the surgeon's loop or perfect loop knots are my go to's and achieve the same result. The only accessories i typically have on my premade rigs (i make all of my rigs... even snelled hooks) are barrel/ball bearing swivels, hooks, and (sometimes) small floats (think pompano rig floats or Lindy rig floats). As my situations change in my fishing areas, so too will my rig additions on my live bait rigs. I get inspirations all the time for different rigs to tie for different situations. Nowadays, i go in to local bait shops to see what the fish have been biting on to get live bait. But for all big box stores (like Walmart and bass pro shops) i go in mainly looking for terminal tackle to use for my forseeable fishing needs, and i get them in bulk as much as possible.
Love your videos JC, keep up the great work. Some day I would like to fish with you and hang, you seem like a very nice person. I'm a US citizen been living in Colombia for many years now and fish of the caribbean coast. We pretty much have similar species in common. Tight lines JC, un abrazo brother .
Snap swivels are just like line - they come in different ratings based on their strength. And some are higher quality than others. If you use the high-quality, properly rated snap swivels, you won't ever have the swivel fail before the line (or knot) fails.
Yup, never caught anything with that dried bait. I bought some of those dried out fish and never got a bite, put on some frozen finger mullet amd bam! I sat there catching various types of fish all evening.
Zebco Omni Flex 30# & 50# monofilament kind are the best bang for the buck. I have caught monsters and put many fish in the cooler using it as leader material. It cost less than .01 cents per yard.
Sometimes folks would rather buy rigs than make them. I make 1 to 6 hook Sabiki/Pompano rigs for people and sell them online on my website. Simple rigs but man do they work. But like I said some folks would rather buy than make.
That is exactly right. the only problem i have with the video is the glare coming off that stainless steel bowl under your hat. i know you where trying to smuggle it out of the store lol. no hate brother, love your videos. oh and the salted bait actual has little to no smell at all. but they don't work very well. i had to try them when i first saw them in our store. but hey i take my extra bait home and salt them myself and freeze them and they last about 3 trips with no smell and they do work pretty good. just make sure you use salt that doesn't have the iodine in it. Catch ya next time!!!
Ha ha...the secrets slipping out. Don't tell anyone...ha ha. Thanks for commenting. Interesting idea about salting and freezing your own baits. What type of fish do you catch with them? Thanks for commenting.
Rad Reeling Fishing I’ve caught trout, lady fish, jack, sharks and cat fish of course. I want to say I’ve caught a red but I don’t remember for sure. I usually bring them with just in case I can’t net any live bait. Give it a try sometime. Be generous with the salt.
I am the 3k-th like ! I wish I had seen your video when I was a beginner. Since then, I have been doing the opposite of your suggestions & my catch record sucks. Is the fishing section pliers fresh/salt water resistant & the other one not ? Which swivel would you recommend instead of the snap ones ?
The pliers in the fishing section might be more saltwater resistant. I rinse my cheap pliers off when I'm finished fishing and give them a dab of oil occasionally, still in great shape. I seriously don't use snap swivels so I can't recommend anything. There are some called an Angler Power Clip that are supposed to be good for switching out hooks or lures fast. I've tried them...In my opinion I think they are okay for night fishing when a fishes vision isn't as good.
Thanks Mike. I almost said something about people using the premade rigs for shark fishing, but I know nothing about that...You're the man with the secrets in that department.
i found that those brined shrimp mbags are perfect for catfishing in salt water. in my experience they even worked better than live shrimp. ive even caught 25 inch snook while jigging the shrimp off the bottom. that being said thry rest of the bagged stuff is complete rubish. great vid all around though
And it all catches fish! I make my own stuff, and also buy stuff if I'm in a hurry. However, any quality angler saves the Walmart fishing aisle for tourists, and buys their gear from a local tackle shop! More choices, better quality, and cheaper prices and helps small businesses!
Yeah, I was tempted the other day to purchase a premade Pompano rig and talked myself out of it. I hardly ever Pompano fish and thought I'd just be wasting money. Thanks for watching.
I use the first item you use all the time lol. I suppose you have a point but as long as the fish keep getting caught I'ma keep using it lol (dark saltwater, galveston tx)
Hey friend, I preferred to come to you and ask what is your rod and reel combo you use for fishing pin fish? Trying to find me a dedicated rod and reel to use all of mine aren't meant for such small fish. Thanks in advanced and subbed to your channel I rarely sub to many channels but I like yours.
Ahhh I found out so you use the BG 2500 reelnot bad of a price sad thing is I am down the road from the caloosahatchee river got a pier on the next street no pin that I could find I have only seen them in Clear waters only not brackish. I only have my learners permit for driving so can't drive unless someone with a license so hard to get to places to go get bait. You guys have a lot better fishing up where you're compared to down here in Fort Myers. Every time me and the girlfriend go out fishing we end up with nothing but cat fish. But we're fishing the bottom. Maybe from now on when fishing clear water I'll fish without a sinker. Ohh forgot to mention I don't use a sinker with pin fish only with live shrimp. But we fished for at least half hour had no baits. Charlotte Habor, Matlacha are shit for fishing.
i can say for sure that those beads (especially cut glass ones help with the rattle on poping cork rig. I have seen many times a person with them catching fish and a person without them not. but what do i know i dont even shop at walmart.
I was going to put that in the video, but actually cut out those clips. Mainly because I know nothing about shark fishing. Hopefully I'll get into that soon because they taste really good cooked on the grill!
Believe it or not the freeze dried bait works well. Found out by accident . My buddy bought a pack of freeze dried herring and caught big flounder every time he put one on . The rest of us got skunked . You never know .
I would actually disagree with the weighted bobber thing. I was trying a rig out today that uses a weight with the bobber to keep the bait lower in the water. Turns out the weighted bobber wasn't strong enough to keep up a relatively light bit of extra weight. If you want weight with a bobber just add it yourself to control the depth better.
Who's thumbs downing this? Little girls who can't tie rigs or maybe the manufacturers? If I could give you more than one thumbs up I would. Years ago I learned the hard way about those premade steal leaders. They kept coming unraveled by the teeth from the good size fish I was hooking on the beach at night. Big blues and sharks.
I get what you were saying on the bobber but what if the bait they are using is already weighing it down. Wouldn't that be a good time to buy one? New saltwater fishing. Just asking.
So when you say the extra things are you saying that floats and beads should not be on the line? I tie my own rigs but I generally put a bead and float on especially with the hi/lol whiting rig. Only been doing surf fishing for about a year. I started with the pre made stuff but have since transitioned to tying my own.

Thanks for commenting David and a very enticing click-bait thumbnail you have there.
Add too much weight and your float won't float. Weighted floats are supposed to be almost neutrally balanced.
6:34 the orange beads serve a purpose. they are so the weights do not rub up on your knots and fray them
Thanks for your input.
@@RadReelingFishing no problem Man, Keep up the good content.
I bought one of these things you mentioned. I have only been fishing for a few months to be honest. I love it! Thanks for the tips sir.
Ive used the premade leaders for years but instead of black I use the clear mono ones and I catch pompano and whiting all the time.
They say most fishing tackle is used for catching fishermen!
I've never heard that before. That makes a lot of sense.
"I just saved you two bucks man" :) love it!
Awesome commenting. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Fishing equipment is made to catch the fisherman not the fish, very well explained
Nothing worng with snap swivels just gotta get a good brand. I use them in East coast of Australia for offshore trolling, bull shark fishing and squid fishing. Just know what your buying and you'll be fine
Awesome video!!!
Greatly appreciated!!!
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Snap swivels are great for dropshot fishing. If the weight gets stuck it can break off. Also easy to change weight
I've learned to make my own rigs. You don't need all that gear. Plus, I loose it way too often to pay 10x what it is worth.
Not just is it cheaper, you can try out different size hooks, fluorocarbon leader and make them on the go!
Yeah, there's plenty of information on UA-cam for making rigs. Thanks for sharing.
DUDE! This is a GREAT video!! Genius idea! A lot of useless crap people get tricked into buying
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don't like pre-tied rigs for the following reasons:
Fun to watch my man! Subscribed!
Thank you for the video👍🏻 wish my Walmart had a assortment of stuff like that for fishing..
Dried finger Mullet are bangers for winter snook. Before u bash all the gear fish it and gain some expierence
Thanks for commenting. How do you fish those dried mullet?
I drop them next to bridge pilings up river. Cold water makes big snook slow. They love an easy meal.
I use the premade leader all the time shore fishing in Florida and I catch some great fish consistently.
Thanks for commenting. They work for some people.
when I was first starting out my tackle box was huge and full of rusting tackle that rarely got used. now my tackle box fits in my pocket. okay, it's a cargo pants pocket but the point is less is more
I use snap selves all the time off shore when your trolling they actually help a lot for connecting your planners while you troll or for your down riggers you just need to get the right ones
Not trying to hate and still a good video
Thanks for sharing your input is greatly appreciated.
Bobbers without weight are for different type of fishing , You can used them while fishing in a rocky jetty or from a pier !
Nice video man. I have a very similar list of things I would never buy. Those items are a waste of time and money. Especially hose prerigged leaders. Such a waste of money. Keep up the good work.
Thanks bud. Hey, I've never caught a Peacock bass before. Do you want to do a collaboration sometime?
We use those snap swivels for deep dropping. That way we lose the weight not the whole rig if it gets caught
Right on. That sounds like the perfect rig. I don't really do that type of fishing, but when I do I'll remember your tip. Thanks.
Good video ! Those bobbers are only good for plugging holes in the boat, LOL ! I only buy oil and filters for the Jeep at Walmart. 60 check out lines and no one is ever home.
That is really funny...Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for commenting. I'm sure there are some strong ones out there that have a "specific" purpose when targeting certain species of fish.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff dude
Damn just bought the bobbers, and bought some pre rigs. Thanks for the tips, will definitely make it next time
Those cheap pliers tend to rust really quick.
What part of cheap did your rusted brain fail to understand?
@@Chuck_Carolina hahahahahahahaha

Great video mate! I love these honest and straight forward opinion videos that focus on content over videography production. There will always be a place on youtube for these videos!
Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate your views. I try to mix things up a bit. If the fishing's good it's usually nonstop action. When the fishing's so, so...well a little more videography. When the weather's bad I will make videos like this to fill in.
This is the first of your videos that I have watched and just from this one video I am definitely going to subscribe and I I think you are a great guy you are so upbeat and full of joy
Thanks for commenting. I am glad you've joined the Rad Reeling gang!
Your videos are excellent... Watched a couple so far. I was forced to subscribe and hit the bell because I want to continue learning...Just great.. Thanks Sy
Love the video I agree with a few of your list I make my own leaders and catch bait using a cast net like most of us should be doing.
Thanks for sharing Joseph.
I use the snap swivels on my bottom rig for the weights. I can easily change the weight depending on the demands of the current.
But for all big box stores (like Walmart and bass pro shops) i go in mainly looking for terminal tackle to use for my forseeable fishing needs, and i get them in bulk as much as possible.
you do realize that the cork you picked up was a popping cork dont you
I don't think he did realize...
You’re tips and tricks are the greatest!!
This is true. Thanks for commenting.
I use freshwater snap swivels for my sinker on my high low rig so if the sinker get snagged I can just break the swivel and not loose the whole liter
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, several people have shared that same tip in the comments on this video. I'll have to remember that!
Yup, never caught anything with that dried bait. I bought some of those dried out fish and never got a bite, put on some frozen finger mullet amd bam! I sat there catching various types of fish all evening.
Great info!!! I totally agree with everything you said in this vid!!!
Thanks
Great advice, less and light is best. The more natural the presentation the more bites your gonna get.
Fishing with Jeff: Absolutely!! Match the hatch!! -D&E
Florida Fishing Couple “match the hatch” I love that!! 👍🏼
I really needed to see this. When I go to buy tackle, well, I really needed to see this! Lol
Zebco Omni Flex 30# & 50# monofilament kind are the best bang for the buck. I have caught monsters and put many fish in the cooler using it as leader material. It cost less than .01 cents per yard.
I agree. I always purchase it for those size lines too.
Haha first time im watching this dude. He is honest and funny. 👍
I wanna buy for you
a Barbie tackle rod 🤪👍🏻
Just kiddin.
Good info for the new guys
Ha ha...I saw that they have Ugly Stik combos for kids at Walmart. I might have to try one out sometime. You know I'm an Ugly Stik guy.
Im going to salt down some finger mullet this fall in the Carolinas and then fish them in the the gulf off of of Florida..my winter haunt
Cool idea man..and i completely agree..all the way..
I use those pre maid liters all the time and have caught some big black drum, cat fish and a smaller hammer head with it.
And it all catches fish! I make my own stuff, and also buy stuff if I'm in a hurry. However, any quality angler saves the Walmart fishing aisle for tourists, and buys their gear from a local tackle shop! More choices, better quality, and cheaper prices and helps small businesses!
Thanks for watching. You've made some great points. You're comment is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for sharing your video.
For Pre-made rigs you pay for the convenience.. & I mean if you're not fishing all the time and not practicing tying the stuff, worth it imo
Right, keep catching fish dude!
Thanks for the good tips sir. Have a great day. God bless.
Thanks for watching.
I knew about the pliers lol I have for YEARS! Didn't know about some of the other stuff though 😂 I would NEVER buy those dried bait things!
You're a riot. A regular riot. Thank you!!!
How do you know it was a 10 pounder?
Good question! I caught huge cats with snap swivels and never had a problem.
MadMackerel Seems that most freshwater fish that get away are in the 10lb range. 👍
Man every time I lose a fish it’s at least 10 lbs 😉😂😂
Because, that fish had it's own scales mate!
good video, but as far as the sliding floats...you don't need weighted, with that rig you use an egg sinker below the sliding float bobber.
Got it. thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I use the pre made ones for shark fishing
I was going to put that in the video, but actually cut out those clips. Mainly because I know nothing about shark fishing. Hopefully I'll get into that soon because they taste really good cooked on the grill!
It’s not the tackle it’s how you tie it
yeah man you need that metal or the toothy creatures will tear your line!
Believe it or not the freeze dried bait works well. Found out by accident . My buddy bought a pack of freeze dried herring and caught big flounder every time he put one on . The rest of us got skunked . You never know .
Thanks for sharing your experience. I wish I could find a fishing spot where the flounder are piled up like that.
the finger mullet is for as soon as you fish they pretty good too
I think the ones in the frozen section would be the best choice, not the ones I showed in the video.
Oh, now there's an interesting point. thanks for sharing.
Ha ha...thanks for the awesome comment.
Grandpa has real ScarFace..i liked that trolly smiles.
I get what you were saying on the bobber but what if the bait they are using is already weighing it down. Wouldn't that be a good time to buy one? New saltwater fishing. Just asking.
That's a really good point. Thanks for sharing.
So when you say the extra things are you saying that floats and beads should not be on the line? I tie my own rigs but I generally put a bead and float on especially with the hi/lol whiting rig. Only been doing surf fishing for about a year. I started with the pre made stuff but have since transitioned to tying my own.
There must be thieves operating in Walmart, they've stolen the peak off the front of your cap and you never even noticed!
Ha ha...yeah someone comment a while ago I was blinding them with the shine. Thanks for watching.
@@RadReelingFishing I tell people my bald head is actually a solar panel for a sex machine! I've just subscribed to your channel, very enjoyable! I don't know if you've tried this one, but I'll tell you anyway! Bull brand do packs of three or four plastic lighters with a little torch built into them and if you unscrew the base of the lighter you can take out the little torch in one piece! Wrap a bit of tape around the battery holder to stop them falling out and you have a very hand tip light for night fishing. I wrapped an elastic band around the connector to light up the torch and put it on a shelf to test how long it would stay lit! I was very suprised to find it lasted just slightly over a week and so it should last quite a few night fishing sessions if turned off after each session! Here in the U.K. they sell them in Poundland and similar shops, I suppose you'd find them in the dollar store or similar stores over there in the U.S.A.! I hope this tip will help you, or some of your subscribers to get a few cheap rod tip lights without breaking the bank! As we say in the U.K. 'tight lines' mate!
