    Once I read about an airplane pilot that had a '65 or '66 real Cobra, can't remember which year or engine it had. Does it matter? He was married, they started a family. He went to the Ford dealer & traded the Cobra for a new '67 top of the line Country Squire station wagon! I bet later on in life, when prices skyrocketed, he wished he had it back!

      Robert M. Trolinder You KNOW he thinks about it every day....LOL. I feel that way about my 74 Road Runner! And it had a 318. It was Deep Sherwood Poly(metallic green with white stripe) and it was beautiful. It had the coolest hood I've ever seen.

    The arm straps are a good Idea!😁 nice run! Not even hammering it and you walked all over him!😁

    • @redbay8527
      @redbay8527  3 роки тому

      Patrick J. Daley - The arm restraints are required by NHRA rules for drivers in convertible cars. This track operates by NHRA rules and all the equipment I wear, except the neck brace, is required of me if I want to race at their track. The next piece of equipment I'll be required to get is a 5-point roll cage if I get into the 10's. If I race a 10.999 second run - I'll need to install a roll cage before I'm allowed to race their again. At least this is my understanding. Once, I did run two consecutive 10.9's, but I had already talked to the man in the tower and told him my tuner was at the track with me that night and would he "forgive" a 10 second run if I made one. He said he would, but I'd have to race in the "no-time" lanes, which I did. As far as that guy I was racing - I was hammering it as hard as I could, as I always do, but he must have having trouble was was running tests on his car. Thanks for the comment and for watching my video.

      Yes, I'm looking at it right now. I'm in the "man cave garage" fixing a speargun and listening to a Nightwish concert. I'd take it for a spin if it wasn't threatening rain. It's my daily driver. I bought it when I retired from Kennedy Space Center, right after the last space shuttle launch about 12 or so years ago. I've thought about what it would be like to sell it, and two reasons for NOT selling it come to light. 1) I don't know what my life would be without it. It's been my dream car since I was a teen - I was 18 years old in 1968 when the roads were FULL of big block Detroit performance cars. All my friends had them, but I was from a poor military family, so my desire for one was never satisfied. So, I'm scared to sell it for that reason. 2) I'd NEVER get my money out of it. I've got a TON of money in it, and I mean HUGE chunks at a time was thrown at it. Thank God the wife didn't mind and I'm not poor anymore. I have every receipt on this car, and the files are about 12 inch thick. I could add them up, but I don't think I will. My race night is on Wednesdays, but it seems there is always a high chance of rain, so I can't go. The weekend nights are packed and I only get 1 or 2 races in and get home late. I'll tell you truth, Paul, IT'S NOT EASY OWNING A COBRA!!! LOL. Thanks for the comment and the interest in the car. Hope to hear from you again.

      Thanks, it's a nice car. But as my daily driver it's a little too "racey" going to the grocery store. Not a real easy car to drive around town because it's difficult to go the speed limit with 615 crank horsepower and a weight of 2250 lbs. School zones....1rst gear and no gas pedal - 15 mph at idle. Thanks for the comment.

      purge98 - That's funny as hell. I never noticed that. You must be a CI Agent - very observant. But, it's not a cup holder, it's the ash tray, and what made it open is probably the turbulence in the cockpit at 120 mph. And I can tell you it's not really easy to open. Wayne Young - Damn! Very well stated and thank you. Not mere theatre......but BRUTAL THEATRE........I really like that. I can tell you're highly educated(or naturally gifted with superior intelligence). Short and powerful, it's the best comment I've EVER had on this car. You've somehow managed to sum up the experience in four words. Most people think I drive the Cobra down the track. But, they don't realize the power of this dangerous beast. In reality, it has me by the balls the whole time, and is squeezing with all it's might - I'm mortified and just want it to be over. But, some form of perversion has a hold on me, and I willingly return over and over again. It's too complicated to explain. Check this one out.....ua-cam.com/video/7uW8v85MN1Y/v-deo.html

    Did he fix the problem by leaning it out?

    • @redbay8527
      @redbay8527  7 років тому +2

      No, he did not. I did not make another run after he adjusted the AF ratio. I took a data log on my way home and emailed it to him. He tuned some more and emailed it back to me, I loaded it into the EFI and took another ride, and another data log. I emailed it to him and am waiting to hear back. Running an 11.258 is a far cry from my 10.957 that I was able to achieve one night. I don't know about this engine....It has never run right. Even the builder in North Carolina(who had the car for 3 months) is unable to get it to run to my satisfaction. There is a video on his channel that actually shows my engine being dyno'd with a carb and then with this Holly EFI system. Both made the same HP - 613. Once I received the car back from him - it cut out during my first race. He worked on tuning it more, but was unable to get it running right. When the engine was new, the builder's father suggested I go with a carburetor, and I wish I would have done that. The EFI has been nothing but trouble for me. I don't know what to do about it as nobody is able to find the problem - and I've had some top name people work on it. One told me, "just drive it and enjoy it". But, I can't do that. I've poured time, effort, money(lots of money), and frustration into it for over a year now. I have a 500+ HP engine sitting right next to me now. It was my best engine ever(I've had 3) and I am VERY tempted to replace the 615 HP with it. But I am an old man, and I just don't want the down time - and an engine swap is a big job for me. I could die tomorrow, so I want to drive the car as much as possible. Anyway, I've got people working on the problem, but they are not producing the results I expect.

      Unless it's just the camera...it looks too long to be a Ford flathead. Anyhow, even a performance built, stroked N/A flathead is only going to put out 150-160hp, so it should look like it had problems, compared to a 500+ HP Cobra.

The REAL race cars are in other lanes. You don't get to choose who you race, you just get in line and race whatever pulls up next to you. Could be a Hellcat or a six cylinder pick up truck.
