M62 V8 Belt Squeal/Chirp, SOLVED (5/7 Series and Range Rover)

  • After replacing my cooling system, I had an occasional squeal (when cold) and a constant chirp at idle. Changing the tensioner pulley didn't change anything.
    Come to find out, I "set" the pulley tension wrong. It takes a lot more force than you think it should. Watch the video to see how to properly tension the tensioner.

    Mate, I’ve watched many videos on this and yours is the only one that clearly shows you how to increase the belt tension by compressing the spring on the idler pulley, thank you and mega kudos my friend.

      Thanks! I've been so frustrated with this tensioner on both the Rangies and a 540i. It's not too bad, once you know how it works!

    I can NOT thank you enough for this, i changed my waterpump and had no idea how that system worked and how you tighten it. i drove my car a mile and it squeked etc. Your video was the ONLY one that actually explained how that works and got my car running.. thank you so so much bro!!

    Was about to buy a new tensioner pulley until I saw this! Hopefully this fixes my super annoying squeal/chirp at no cost!

      I have the same issue and sounds on BMW X5 V8 4.8. Chrip at cold start up and noise gone after couple of mins warm up. Do you fix your car by loosing the tensioner..?

    So if one is at the end if the slot so you cannot turn it counterclockwise anymore, would that be indicative of the spring assembly gone bad/wore out?

    I have the same noise and the more I accelerate, the more it does it. Well, mine doesn't want to charge but I've already changed the alternator twice and it doesn't matter. Someone here has had the same thing happen to him. that is, it does not want to charge but it has the same noise as yours. Mi car it’s land eover 2005 4.4

    Muy range rover chirped when i turn the steering wheel

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  5 років тому +1

      I would check the power steering pump first with that symptom

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  5 років тому +2

      If it squeals when turning and not when accelerating, it's probably the power steering pump. I'd check your fluid level first, it's notorious for leaking

      @@ForgottenWaypoints I'll check it was sitting there for 2 weeks unused it does have a whole bunch of leaks I've just never checked them out cause it drives pretty freaking good haha but check that

    This may be a dumb question but do you have to take the fan and fan clutch off to access? I don’t see yours

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  6 місяців тому +1

      I had too, my hands aren’t small enough. You probably can access it though from underneath. You had to pull the fan for filming though.

      @@ForgottenWaypoints I will give it a try from underneath maybe. I have very large hands though also

    My range rover sport has same noises on cold start but once warm all good. Was wondering what pulley or belt to replace?? 🤯

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  Рік тому +1

      I'd try readjusting the tension first, if that doesn't fix it and the belt looks good, then change the pulley

  • @ViralHits108

    im having an issue where both the pulis are really close to each other that the belt is touching

    • @micoahonen7528
      @micoahonen7528 2 роки тому

      im really really late, but if anyone else has this problem i would say start by changing the serpentine belt first, it might be too worn out and loose and makes the pulleys touch

    Hi, would it be possible to do this job myself rather than take to a garage?

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  2 роки тому

      Yes, you just need some mechanics tools and patience. The hardest part on the m62 is getting to the bolt. You might need a fan clutch tool to take the fan off too.
