    So beautiful..I really love the green colored rocks you have in whatever area you live, as they are a slightly different color than the green rocks on the west coast.(in US) Just so many beautiful colors. Its nice to know and see that other people like this simple, natural, & even spiritual hobby of exploring rocks and gem hunting. Its one of the least expensive to enjoy as far as hobbies go. I just love it. Thanks for sharing all your adventures and hunts.. Its been an interesting and enjoyable experience!

    Those turned out amazing! I just finished polishing some river rock, they were super dull so I burnished for 12 hours with ivory soap but they are still very dull and only look shiny when wet. Any suggestions on how to make them shine?

    Great video on finishing, could not help but notice small white streaks and spots after you burnished. Is that residue of Ivory Soap and how go you get rid of it...

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  7 років тому +1

      I probably should have left it in the burnish a bit longer. I was running out of daylight for the video and rushed it a bit. However, anytime you want to clean soap from rocks, just rinse well and run it again in warm water in the tumbler for about 15 minutes. I do the same between the pre-polish and polish to make sure the rocks are clean.

    • @98woodcarver
      @98woodcarver 7 років тому +1

      I did run into the same problem and it was painstaking getting it all with a toothbrush. Never thought of running straight water. In Alberta, you are very fortunate having such an abundance of great rocks. Great videos

    How many tumblers do you have going at once usually? 😉

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  4 роки тому +1

      I have 3 tumblers and sometimes have all 3 going at once. One at a time is better for me. Mid tumble, I lose track of what stage they are at sometimes. I do this for fun and if I am running all 3, then it becomes work. That's just me.

    • @lauren8692
      @lauren8692 4 роки тому

      meMiner oh totally. You’d need a white board or a calendar and some kind of tracking system to keep them all straight lol.

    Hi There, thanks in advance for the awesome video, it inspired me to try it out for myself, quick question though, do you not use the plastic filler beads when running the polish and burnish?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому

      If I used beads in stage 3 (prepolish), then I keep them thru the next rounds (polish and burnish). They help keep the rocks from striking each other.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому

      Just make sure they are clean going from one stage to the next. I usually clean everything and then run with clean water for 20 minutes, just to be sure. Then I wash everything off one more time before adding water and grit or polish.

      @@meMiner im sorry I meant ivory soap.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  5 років тому +1

      The reason to use Ivory is it is pure soap with no perfume, oils or abrasives. The burnishing step is mostly to remove polish residue and give a final rub on the rocks. It is not always a required step and you would know if it will be helpful by aggressively rubbing one of the rocks on a soft cloth for a few minutes to see if that makes a difference.

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  6 років тому

      Good question. Sometimes I will tumble them again with other fresh rocks. Other times, I will break or cut them before tumbling again (to remove an obvious flaw). Finally, some just end up being tossed into my gravel driveway out back.

      So here I am researching the burnishing process once again. They just went in at 2:00 AM. I also have a dual 3LB. tumbler. I am so glad I let the 1st 4 steps run a bit longer than 1 week each. You would have to pry the piece of petrified wood out of my cold dead hand. Gonna let the burnish round go 3Hrs/22 Mins. I just can't wait any longer! This will be my best tumble by far. Thank you both.
