I was a Diver (Saturation) and used the Helium relief valve. It was designed for divers employed in Saturation diving, so it was a helpful device. If you don't like it you can buy the other Omega 300. I also had this watch, and I blew the glass out during decompression because I didn't, open the crown during deco.
I think the black 4 is not a feature, but just got black because of reflection on the bezel. The 4 is in gold on other pictures. Regarding the dial, i think is same white color, but wave pattern in positive relief (instead of laser cutting, or called negative relief) reflects differently and gives a different shade to the dial.
I hope so, because otherwise the bezel wouldn‘t be so beautiful.

Re the 4, I don’t know how you missed this Harrison - it’s just the way the light was hitting it in that shot…
Just a correction, 6min48sec, the "4" on bezel's "40" is NOT darkened to commerate the 24th Olympics. That's just the lighting, other photos show that the numerals and minute markers are uniformally coloured.
For those of us on the solid caseback team, we are being spoiled by Omega this year. Smiling.

a gold bezel insert doesn't seem like the most durable material to use

One of the great feature of the white dia SMP is the contrast with the black hands and indexes. I am guessing you would lose that contrast with the gold and could make it very difficult to read the time. I have the seiko SPB123 and reading the time often needs more than 1 glance.

Also, I don't think the 4 is black on the bezel - that's just a reflection. It's just gold like the other numbers.
It's a beauty, and I think the nods to the Olympics are subtle enough that I would seriously consider purchasing it... if they made it 40mm.

If it wasn't special edition I would totally buy as well. Aesthetically it's a such a beautiful piece and by far my favorite looking Seamaster. But similarly I simply don't have that personal connection to the Olympics to where it would feel right buying it. A shame it's not part of their normal lineup.

I don’t have any gripes against the helium escape valve, I would have preferred a flush automatic rather than a protruding manual valve. But it’s an Omega, a Seamaster 300M with two crowns so be it. It’s a beautiful iconic design.
Harrison, I'm with you. I would prefer to see this as a member of the normal lineup. If they did that, Omega could sell this for years to come and well past the 2024 Olympic games. Cheers!

I'd love this watch if it wasn't a limited edition. As mentioned above it has a strong yachtmaster vibe about it. Ive no isdue with the HE valve most of the time it hidden under the cuff
Good video Harrison! But one remark. You were a little bit wrong about 4 on the bezel. It is just on that photo looks "black" but on normal pictures it is same as all other numbers on the bezel :)
I love the He valve (I’m a commercial diver, but not saturation). I dive with a g-shock.
Gotta love that Omega made the bracelet easier to remove rather than made the bracelet better so you don't want to remove it!

I did not see Omega with Quick release bracelet before and that 's à huge cool new feature. I hope they will upgrade other SMP 300. I wonder if it' s included on 75th anniversary.
Steel and gold, white and gold are good associations. But full steel bracelet mâles it cheap although golden strips would have been better.
Why not à silver bezel one and a bronze one ?
A specific collection for special édition is à good idea maybe à diver à chrono and à more classic /dressed. I hope they will listen to you Harrison.
For me my first choice would be the green one (because it is also black 2 for 1), followed by 75th anniversary (bezel with ceramic and émaille grand feu 😮).
Concerning the bracelet i agree with you. It has it's own identity. Clasp is good enough and the quick release system is à great plus, not so 90's anymore.

It would be cool if they could etch the flame on the sapphire on the caseback instead of doing a full stainless steel. Same with the NTTD and Nekton edition
If they released it as a standard 300 and added the exhibition back, I think they’d sell better than the Olympic version. Like you, I’m not a big Olympic fan either. I watch it for the freaks of nature, like Bolt and Phelps, but that’s about it. I get the reason for this edition though. They’re the official time keeper and would be kinda weird if they didn’t. I am a Bond fan and my grail watch is the older Bond Seamaster “Commander” version with the 007 on the red second hand 🤤. Now if only I could keep myself from buying “more affordable” watches for a few months, I might actually be able to own one before there’s no more new ones available on the 2nd hand market 😅

I have always hated the He valve on the Seamaster's. I used to look in disgust at my friend's Plant Ocean and ask why they put that cancerous thing on there. I have now owned a 300M green dial for a year 😂I somehow don't notice it now 😄
Personally I like watches to be timeless (of course telling the time though). My daily watch is an Explorer. That’s never (at least I hope never) going to feel like a dated watch. These sorts of limited editions however, they will be. For me it’s like songs that reference current events or pop culture. Or at worst say the year in the song. After that year, it’s over, the song is done. So I fully agree with you, had this not been an dated olympics special/limited edition, it would be fantastic.
If you like the watch, buy it. Just because you have no connection to the Olympic Games is no reason not to buy the watch! I have never heard such a nonsensical reason not to buy a watch.

I really like this watch, for my tiny female wrist kinda need 36mm, but still very nice. Comments are saying this is feminine looking (and if that's what Omega was going for, could've made it smaller 😂)

The black 4 is just the picture, I just bought one from the AD and it is gold color not black. A little disappointed but still a very nice watch.

New Planet Ocean is 39.5mm, the summer blue edition. That’s quite small for a diver.

I prefer the closed back as similarly to Rolex, the calibre is rather industrial and pedestrian so not that pretty to see… Now, on this one they could have had a see through back but with a Sedna gold balance decorated for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It would have been nicer than this insert médaillon.
Obviously, this watch will sell but it is not my cup of tea. £2000 extra for the tiniest weight of gold… I like the fonts for these Olympic Games but I think that the whole date wheel should have these rather than only the 24…
To me there are too many little gimmicky touches, I don’t like that approach so much.
If you like the watch, buy it. Just because you have no connection to the Olympic Games is no reason not to buy the watch! I have never heard such a nonsensical reason not to buy a watch. It's these little "hidden" gimmicks related to the Olympics that make the watch so special! Otherwise it would be just one of many other Seamaster 300m watches that get lost in the masses.

There we go again, number 3 this year.. After the James Bond 60 Anniversary and the Summer Edition AGAIN a new one.. (It seems quite feminine to me). I think they even never sold out one of the Olympic Games watches.. A never ending story with still endless of limited edition to come.. Omega is getting ridiculously lazy !

Love the look but I bought my black dial Seamaster full set on bracelet for under £4K just two years ago. I love it, wart and all, so I wouldn't buy this.

That bracelet is horrible, I can’t believe Omega refuses to change it. I would still buy it, but the black 4 on the bezel kills the whole watch.
I can deal with the logo in the seconds hand because it’s very small, but that black 4 is a bunch of yuck.
So to answer your question, I’d buy the normal version, but not this special one.

One of the worst designed diving watch ever, take your poison bettween horrible looking braclet,shrek valve, horrible fat skeleton dial and hexagonal bezel which is famous for being frictionless,font on the date is straight crap and that chaptering is just bad design!!!
