Great choice - may i also throw the Tudor Prince Date+Day in the ring. Also in two-tone. I totally like the Tudor 5-link Bracelet and that it sits flatter on the wrist than the Datejust due to the flatter caseback.
That would be my "one and done" watch.

@@-Medicitotally!! I like the 76214 Tudors a lot. The solid link bracelet and oldschool oyster style case are just lovely together. Having the ETA movement also cuts the service costs down to about 250 bucks.

@@islandwatch Would you elaborate on the SKX015? When I checked with my local seiko about the parts (bezel and dial) they searched for the part numbers and etc. They weren’t able to get me replacement parts as it was discontinued a long time ago, just like other old seiko watches. But I didn’t hear it was never a thing.
update: I checked with them again after watching the video, they could list the model number with its case number(7s26-0030 of course) and the part number of bezel and dial.

Growing up in Switzerland I remember that the Omega signs always struck me when I saw them around, even as a child without knowing anything about watches. For example, I didn't even notice the Rolex signs, but Omega seemed cool to me. Many years later I became interested in watches and wanted to buy my first "big" one, and it was an Omega Aqua Terra. Excellent topic and discussion as always! So I have a plethora of chronographs (both vintage and modern), some of which are divers, as well as some diving GMT's and some straight divers (like the infamous SKX). I'm not sure if the "one watch" for me actually exists- but I can imagine it. 1. It must be dive capable as I love being underwater. 2. It must have some sort of rotating bezel as this is very useful as a timing device. 2 and a half. That bezel must be fully lumed. 3. I would go for the GMT function over the chrono function as I do travel a bit and have a daughter in Japan. 4. I would prefer a light blue dial and a RED date. 5. It needs to be at least 42mm so I can appreciate it with my eyes (as well as the fact that the bigger pieces do look better on me). So effectively I would be going for a 42+mm version (homage) of a GMT Master with all of the above mentioned features. My second favourite watch (which is one of most least expensive pieces) is the closest piece to this. It's a 41mm 300M homage to the GMT Master. Full on lume monster and yes it comes underwater with me. The only things boxes that it doesn't tick are is the lack of a light blue dial and red date and its dub 42mm. But it packs a HUGE bang for bucks and lots of fun for so little money. Another option I would consider (despite it being quartz) is that beautiful white and blue Seiko Flightie on Mark's left wrist. Reasons- a. Chrono, Alarm and GMT all in one in anologue display. b. It's a Flightie ! Say no more!

I like this idea of a "one and done" watch, I need to give this some deep thought to reduce my collection. This doesn't mean one and done forever as Mark said "variety is the spice of life" but it certainly is worth thinking about as it would allow ownership of one far superior (or expensive) watch rather than several not quite as good, perhaps wearing until one tires of it then move on to the next dream watch . Perhaps we are all getting blinded by collecting and perhaps for some we should focus in. Onwards and upwards

    Hello TGV, Hello Mark,
First up, great video, like always.
Now for me, I probably would chose my yema superman heritage with bronze bezel.
I got it for my graduation and it has a great military background. At the same time, it fits to every occasion.
Now I would be a watch, I would probably be something out there, something rougher but also dressy. I would say a two toned dive watch 🤔
    Have a wounderful day.

What a tough question. I looked through my collection and settled on my Seiko SSH003J Astron. As much as I wished a mechanical movement would have fit the bill, the premise of only having one watch suggests a set & forget do-everything instrument. The Astron fulfills that criteria for me. Thank goodness we don't live in that imaginary dystopian world currently!

I have the DJ41, but over time, I have grown to love smaller watches. I might be getting a vintage DJ36 fluted on jubilee. I most often wear my DJ, but my Speedy Reduced is seeing more and more wrist-time. It's incredibly versatile and a proper "strap monster". Changing the straps adds so much variety to it.

    Hi TGV and Marc!
My one watch only used to be an Omega Aqua Terra. But recently I changed my mind. Now it might be the Omega Globemaster instead. I like the hands better. And the tungsten bezel is practically unscratchable. And I have to confess that I’m thinking about purchase a Datejust for my upcoming round birthday. It might still be the right and only watch for an older gentleman. Time will tell.

I used to be like Marc and quite logical decision making and I'm more like TGV as I get older. Great stuff guys 🙌🏼
Current collection the Oris Aquis would prevail for me. Grey dial, matt ceramic bezel while adding rubber, steele and leather strap options I feel like Bond, James Bond. Cue the tux & them song 😎
When a one watch scenario comes to my mind, I also visualize a chronograph that I can dress up or down. So the not in my collection yet 😉 Watch that might compete with the Aquis would be the Omega Deville Chrono, ‘pure class’.
The watch ‘I am’ is a Hamilton Intra-matic. I’m an Artist/Designer from Pennsylvania originally. The exaggerated bauhausesque dial inside a unique retro case that still stands the test of time is for me, also what I stand for as a designer.
    The test of time ✌🏼🇺🇸

Just one watch? It would have to be the Rolex Explorer 36mm. But with about 20 straps from the steel bracelet, black and brown leather, natos and rubber it can look a million bucks with a Tux, or fitted with a nato for a day of hiking, mountaineering or sailing. Its also one of the only Rolex models that don't scream attention say if you were in London with short sleeves. Fitted with a nylon nato, it could look quite ordinary.

I have all these really nice watches. Then late last summer I purchased a Seiko Astron with a dark green (almost black) dial. Perpetual calendar, obtains time/date via US time broadcasts, solar movement. I thought I'd give it a try as I got it at a good price. Since then I haven worn even one of my other watches, I don't even like taking the Astron off my wrist. I don't have to worry about setting time or date, battery life, wearing watch enough for self-winding, and the time is always spot on with the computer's time, also set by the national standards time broadcast. I'm actually thinking of selling most of my others as I have another nicer Astron I want. Never thought I'd fall in love with a solar movement watch.

100% agreed. People behind a company can ruin an otherwise cool watch for me.
I want to be compelled by all aspects because these are luxury goods, not necessary goods.
If something about it bothers me, I simply don't need it.
I'd rather find something I can connect with 100%.

Fun video. For me, I had a lovely 6 watch collection consisting of my grandfathers bulova an Omega AT, breitling super ocean, seiko skx007, movado museum watch and a Rolex submariner.
Wearing my Sub to work one day, my house was broken into and all 5 of my watches were stolen and never recovered. So today, I only have one watch, besides my Apple Watch and it’s my Sub. It has personal history behind it, some good some not so good but I miss my others. The only one I’d want back though was my grandfathers Bulova, I do miss the others but having one watch makes things simple.
So I guess I am a one watch guy.

The blue Seiko Flight Master was my first "quality" watch. I always wanted a Breitling, but wasn't able to afford it so I purchased the Seiko in 2009 for around $300 because it had such nice sub-dials and computational bezel. I credit it for getting me into watches and still have it on its original band. Fast forward and I have my long-desired Navitimer, but still love to put on the Flighty. Great watch.
