@@Frankfrankgbrllyahoocom thank you. I learned this met as a kid when we purchased "Rosie Reds" (pink/orange fathead feeder minnows) from a marina we used to fish. It was THE BEST tip as to hooking live bait that we've ever received. I must have been 10 years old. Caught so many fish that day that it was unbelievable! All species! Bass, Yellow Bass, White Bass, Crappie, Catfish... Caught them all using this method.

@@arniejohnsen2353 absolutely it will! It will work for many bait fish. Shad, of course, are too delicate. I've even seen it used on rainbow trout in places where it is legal to use them for striper!

Well learned something today. I might be throwing some live bait out next weekend. Gotta try it out.
If you were throwing a larger bait like a bluegill with a circle hook, could you do it the same way?

Absolutely! I have many times. The only time it gets tricky is with goldfish that have really thick heads. Hell, I've seen it used with rainbow trout for stripers!
