I've been a regular jump roper for years - boxer style for 30 minutes most mornings. I recently took up running about a month ago and I've been absolutely amazed by how quickly I've been able to stack on the miles using most of the same muscles, joints, and motion I developed from only jumping rope. I've been running 4-5 miles a day 5 or so days a week without much problem. I'm running a 10k this weekend - first race ever - and I'm pretty excited. So yeah - runners, jump rope is your friend, especially for pre-race warmups in the parking lot.
Wow 👌 , what is your 5km time ?
Watching from Adelaide Australia! Great tips, thank you!
Beautiful views and so smooth asphalt.
Always nice to try something a bit different. Have been wondering how to incorporate jump ropes, so will be interesting to see how it goes!
Thanks for your insights and tips
thanks for the vid! I'm going to work these drills into my training
Yup. Greetings from Australia! Word is spreading.
Heel kiss, that explains it perfectly. Thanks.
you really know how to find the science behind running. I needed this thanks! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks, Patricia! Glad we can help :)
Nice drill. Will give it a try!
Thank you, for sharing this Gem of the Information. 👍🌟
Nicely explained! Thanks alot :)
Good comparison! Good drill!
Impressive running coordination through the rope swings. I had to slow the video down to quarter-speed to see it properly (at 3:06). Not sure if I can manage it but I'm excited to give it a try.
You made a video from the thoughts of my mind! I am a jumprope-er getting into running and I was thinking " If only I could apply my jumprope skills moving forward in running thank you!
Can you share an update please
To measure rope lengths try using both feet in the rope hip width apart amd measure handles to the arm pits. Usually the most accurate but also depends on what feels comfortable 😁
Good video
Great to see you've teamed up with Athletics Australia! Watching from Sydney NSW. Some good tips here :-)
Aussie ...Yeah : ) Thanks heaps mate
Just rounded up your likes to 800 :)
Sound cut in and out a bit but I pretty much got it all. I'm working on my foot strike so this clip was right on the money. 😀
Luke Dodds apologies on sound issues!
I am also from Australia, great work guys, been following and recommending you for couple of years now
Please help!
Can i run for longer just by skipping?
Could you please let me know that what should be average number of skips per minute for full marathon runner?
Thank you for your information. what I want to ask; is your recommended forefoot but is the forefoot kissed by the heel? Or does it mean midfoot? But no one talks about a heel kiss on midfoot.
Watching from Melbourne Australia thanks for the great training
Just about to order one thanks Coach Nate
Hi, in reference to 3:45, while I understand the theory of emphasizing “pulling mechanics” I’m curious if you have references in support of this idea of actively pulling your foot up during the swing phase. I only ask because I’ve heard other coaches emphasize “front side mechanics” of a knee drive which in turn brings the foot up for a quicker turnover / cadence. Guess the question is, do I drive the knee up or pull the foot up??? 🤷🏽♂️ Two completely different schools of thought I guess.
Wow this is great!! It really helped my last run. My question is I tend to have a dominate foot (my right) and during the run I am landing nice on my left but I seem to be on my toes and reaching too far...any ideas as far as a drill to stop it?
I might try some single leg strength work to see where along the chain of your right leg you're losing control and strength. Could chance the foot is landing oddly as a result of another disconnect along the leg. We have some good single leg work to try on our UA-cam channel!
The Run Experience thank you so much you Rock!
👍
Where are you what city is that ?
Can i use jump rope for cardio instead of running
Yes you can
I discovered heel kiss because my feet are hurting me from doing jump ropes from only using the balls under foot and the toe. Thank you for giving it a name!
Nyc❤️
The "heel kiss" is only for rope jumping, right? I don't think I can do it in running. I think I always land with the middle of my foot, then roll to the toes.
The heel kiss is actually a great too for running hills!
Wish you had went more in depth regarding cadence. But otherwise good video. Definitely will try it
Shane B lots of other in depth videos on cadence up on the channel. Feel free to check them out :)
hey, can i reemplace 30 mins run for 30 or 40 mins of jumping rope?
That's a long time to jump rope - but if you're doing it properly with adequate warm up and mobility before and after, you should be ok.
The Run Experience yes, i could jump rope longer, in fact, thanks!
Love Ukraine 💛💙
