As a brazilian I love how Qubite added the car "Firma" representing the legendary Fiat Uno, a very popular car here, extensively used by Cable TV companies, complete with the stairs on the roof, a brazilian staple
I'm gonna wait in the corner for the next pick ups video. You know what, you should do a podcast. Just talking with the Metal Jesus crew. That, or travel vlogs. Just you talking with people and immersing your self in the moment. Either way, gonna watch this cause you're awesome.
@MetalJesusRocks Woohoo! Consider the podcast idea man. You, a couple of the crew and ice cold beer is always a great combination. I think yours are the only long videos I watch/listen to here. And it's always fun to see you grabbing whatever obscure game Reggie finds. 😂
Cool build. I loved Top Gear and other games like OutRun back in the day. I know MJR already knows but if you want a modern equivalent to exactly this type of game, you can’t get any better than Horizon Chase Turbo! Has the same music composer (you can immediately tell and it has roughly the same gameplay). HCT has a sequel too but it’s not on Steam / Steam Deck yet. I think it’s on Switch and the Epic Games Store. EDIT: MJR did mention HCT and the composer whose name had escaped me in my original post: Barry Leitch!
I love the idea of a steering wheel mini-machine, but I want more and better games with it. If Sega does something like this with Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Outrun and Power Drift, I’m in.
Top Gear is one of my favorite games of all time and it’s great to see it back on modern consoles (I’m hoping it gets a physical release)! Trying to see how far you can go before pitting is so much fun and makes it so much better than Top Gear 2. Top Gear 3000 is also an awesome game and I love that it features “alien technology”. I have the soundtracks to all the games loaded up so they’ll come on randomly and I always jam out to them.
I owned the first Top Gear on the SNES when I was a kid in the early 90's. Very nostalgic for that game and probably helped fuel my interest in automobiles and racing as I grew up.
It's ok. That speaker is pretty small and I had a shotgun mic pointed right at it, which is why you are hearing distortion. Probably more than you would normally notice.
Is good to mention the mini arcade uses the Mega Drive/Sega Genesis version of Top Racer 2, and the Collection only have the SNES games. Probably the redeem code section is for future expanding with the Mega drive version, and the Game Boy color versions as well. Also is great say the Collection was made by a brazilian game studio called QUByte. Brazil loves Top Gear, so this collection is very meaningfull to us brazilians
i wonder how they would expand it doesnt have an internet connection the redeem code thing is probably more like a password system that unlocks other games that are already on the machine
When I was 12 my cousin Albert had a Space Invaders and a driving game I can't remember but I played them a lot. This looks like the mini arcades of yore awesome!👍 Good review and cool video MJR!👉🙂👈
I think u should do a 10 things you didnt know..on video games or game products of the past and present sort of like what mintycomic does with movies ..would be interesting
Totally agree about Barry Leitch. He doesn't get enough recognition these days. Also, if you're looking for a hidden jam, listen to his soundtrack for the forgotten flight sim "TFX." It's one of his best OSTs, especially the CD audio version, but no one seems to know about it because the game is so obscure.
I have my original Pac-Man and Donkey Kong mini arcade games. Unfortunately the Donkey Kong no longer works, and a sticker fell off, but I have the sticker.
Thanks Metal Jesus Top Gear is my favorite racing game. It represents a part of my childhood. Cant wait to download the collection on my PS5 and remember the good old days when iused to play these gems with my cousins on the SNES.
I find it's very much a mixed bag retro gaming, sometimes you go back to a game and realize how far the games have come in the years since. Sometimes I wonder how I used to play some of the games I've gone back to. On other occasions, the very best games do stand the test of time.
Used to love lotus on amiga, and still do in short burst but.....i feel horizon chase turbo has taken this concept and perfected it......i see no reason to play these old games now as a new player. (and i did try :) )
FUN FACT: That "1.5" version you showed with new cars includes a brazilian meme, one of the cars is an "Fiat Uno with a ladder on top". The Uno was very basic, used widely as a company car, and it was common in the 90s to see these with a ladder on top (usually being used by electric companies). Because of it´s target audience the car was very sturdy and frequently you would see them all busted up but still running, so it became the "Nokia 3310" of cars. People joke like "what is faster, a Ferrari or an Uno with a ladder on top?", or say that the ladder is the thing that gives the car powers. The collection was basically "made for Brazil". The company that made it is brazilian and Top Gear was insanely popular there for some reason, so it´s only fair that it includes the legendary "Uno with a ladder on top". PD: What the hell is Bleem doing there? I remember them, what a trip XD
Very cool to see them pull out the old patent to make a new age tabletop arcade. Looks like the identical style to those older frogger/donkey kong table tops from the 80s. Except some of those i believe were like a vacum tube display but dont quote me. Cool review @MetalJesusRocks!
I played an early demo of the Top Racer Collection in an retrogaming event in Brazil and it featured a crossover with Horizon Chase Turbo. That was the game that was supposed to be in the collection - Top Racer 1 featuring Horizon Chase Turbo cars. But I think it didn't make it to the final version, probably because neither developer reached an agreement. Side note: both developing companies are from Brazil.
Hard Drivin' was probably my favorite arcade as a kid in the early 90s, I remember the arcade had a clutch but I played on automatic because it was easier since I had no clue how to play with the clutch. Most racing games at the time had a 3rd p.o.v. so I liked the dashboard p.o.v. and not only the windshield craked when you had an accident but it showed the accident in another p.o.v. afterwards so my main goal was to see the replay of the most spectacular accident. Later on I really liked Test Drive II The Duel eventhought I didn't read English I know I was always told "You drive like my grandmother" because I think I was on first gear the whole time not knowing how to play but it had the behind the wheel p.o.v. which I really liked. Let's just say with my friend's and I imagination Test Drive II The Duel was for driving, Lethal Enforcer was when we were in trouble against bad guys, my small pool table, playing cards (poker & black jack) and roulette were to bet monopoly money on casino games , watching WWF and beating my milkbone pillow, giving it suplex and power bombs on my bed were street fights and we called that playing Mafia calling ourselves Johnny and Gino. Good old days hehehe!!!
Man, I loved playing TG3000 with my older brother on his SNES when I was a kid, I got the collection as soon as I knew it had released. Just a small note, the collection was made by QUByte Interactive, not Gremlin. They're a Brazilian studio just like Aquiris, the makers of Horizon Chase Turbo. In fact, some of the cars in the "Crossroads" extra game are references to cars from Horizon Chase.
FWIW, the Steam version works just fine on Steam Deck in spite of the warning you get that compatibility is unknown. I would have preferred it to default to A or B for accelerate (vs Y) and to "Fit" vs "Normal" for screen type (normal is like looking at a stamp sized version of the game, fit is perfect)
Metal Jesus I just found out my ps3 plays ps1 disc games … ureka !!! You should do a video on this as I don’t think most people know about this . Take care man
top gear is all my time favorite racing game me and my buddy got so good at it that we could win every race and we would be in first and second place in every race
Hey Jason, just a thought here. Have you ever considered maybe dipping your toes into the custom built console realm? Several channels do super well with that, and as much as I enjoy you posting content, I think a lot of us would prefer items we would use on a more regular basis than items like this where it’s for a niche market, and then, only a novelty. Anbernic, miyoo, even custom GBA consoles would be nice. Just a thought
Hell yeah. Loved Top Gear for SNES. I got the collection on my wishlist. I have no desire for the lil cabinet. Those things are too small to play on and enjoy. Would keep it as a decorative piece but have no desire to do so. Also Whiplash on PC was my jam. Didn't know they were the same team behind Top Gear.
I have a friend that I don't see often, but when we do hang out, one of us will 100% bring up the time in the 90s when we played Top Gear 2 until the letter B got imprinted on our thumbs. GOAT 16 bit racer, I die on that hill right there
I like how they purposely not include the Sega Genesis version of Top Racer 2 on the collection and instead put it on the Top Racer mini arcade. Good marketing strategy since the Genesis only had the one game.
Im amazed that they can emulate top gear 3000. It is the ONLY game in the snes library that uses one spexific chip (which I cant remember ita nane at the moment) but it makes the game difficukt to emulate)
The mini arcade is neat, but a little too pricy for only one game. They should have included the full collection; or something. A Sega style one with all the older Outrun series would be great. Yes it was!

The European version of TG1 had some rad speech bubbles which were sadly censored out of the American version.
I was wondering about that! I know I had seen those screenshots before
@@MetalJesusRocks American Top Gear 2 had speech bubbles on the SNES. Mostly minor insults.
@@PotatoFi Yeah the American version of 1 has them as well, but the EU version's bubbles contain profanities. NOA wouldn't have approved them.
My brother and I played the original Top Gear so much on our SNES back in the 90s. We still set it up and play once in a while nearly 30 years later!
Hey MJ, I like so much your videos man 😁.
Greetings from Belgium in Europe.
Hey, thanks!
I owned the first Top Gear on the SNES when I was a kid in the early 90's. Very nostalgic for that game and probably helped fuel my interest in automobiles and racing as I grew up.
My first thought when this video started:
"BLEEM?!?! Who bought that IP!?"
I LOVED Top Gear on SNES!
A niche item for a niche market
Horizon Chase Turbo did an amazing job of making a modern racing game in this style.
no they didnt that games is stupid you brake by lifting off the gas
game claims to have controller support but its so bad that its unusable
Love your videos man. I can watch MJR and RLM playlists on repeat. It's.my comfort watching.
How's the audio on the mini arcade? It doesn't sound particularly pleasant through the video.
It's ok. That speaker is pretty small and I had a shotgun mic pointed right at it, which is why you are hearing distortion. Probably more than you would normally notice.

I suspect Nintendo will release the MD and GBC versions on the NSO app.

It was also made for Genesis. I had it back in the 90's. Really good game.

Man, Bleem. I remember seeing it as a retail box on the shelf at Best Buy.

It's one of his best OSTs, especially the CD audio version, but no one seems to know about it because the game is so obscure.
Another hidden gem soundtrack from Barry is "Spider: The Video Game." It's a platformer that's underrated for sure.

Thanks Metal Jesus Top Gear is my favorite racing game. It represents a part of my childhood. Cant wait to download the collection on my PS5 and remember the good old days when iused to play these gems with my cousins on the SNES.
I love Lotus III and so does my significant other. We still race off every weekend.
I like the angle on the screen. It makes a huge difference for it to be set deep in a cabinet so its dark and it draws you into the game more.
My favorite part about this product is that i get to play in on a tiny screen instead of my tv.
Wow, I remember Bleem. What a time to be alive 😄😄😄
They for some reason bought the bleem logo.

I think this is a must have toble top toy, also will hopefully spur the likes of Quarter Arcade to make Outrun, my dream has just got closer.
Nice to see it only takes 4 AA’s and not 4 C’s like the coleco mini cabs in the 80’s. Pretty cool little toy though I doubt I’d use it much
