I think what I appreciate the most in this game is that there are no superfluous actions. Everything has a purpose, even the setup! Deckbuilders, especially co-op deckbuilders also tend to have little to no way of optimizing your deck, you simply purchase cards hoping the right one will come out at the right time. Limiting your deck only to 15 cards and GIVING up a card for a new one is one of the coolest mechanics and my hope is that other designers see this and implement it. Lastly, I appreciate the fact that the AI's "turn" is simple and quick so you can get back to the important part of the game, hacking! Ricky - nothing short of amazing, cannot wait to watch the next part!
Finally after over a year of looking for a copy, and today I finally got my hands on Renegade! Second hand, still in shrink! And now, here I am ready to learn! Cant wait
My goodness, got my copy in the mail and you have truly created a gem here, this is the hardest but most fulfilling solo experiences I've played... The chaining of commands and brutal AI really makes the brain burn...just brilliant my friend.
Man, I so want to play this! It really gives me a good cyberpunk vibe from what I have seen so far, more than many other games with that theme that talk about hacking, but don't really make me feel it.
Renegade was the only game in English in the games shop here in Gran Canaria. I bought it today and I’m really pleased with the quality and look of the whole thing. Currently reading the rules and can’t wait to start trying to learn how to play. Cheers
I gotta say, the idea and concept of this game is amazing. It's just learning the rules feels very complicated :( Do you plan on doing any expansions? Maybe make it so all the hexes are individual pieces (like in Catan) for even more diverse setups? (If that works for the game)
i have the feel that ''agent Smith'' is coming in the future :) this game screams for good expansions :) i wish you the best ideas for your fantastic game
Going through this video again, at 0:50 you said the renegades are trying to restore Faith in humanity. Which server is the one the SMCs typically have the most presence on? Faith! Well played, Sir!
I'll be backing this, Ricky! I need a good solitaire cyberpunk hacking game. I could never get people to play Netrunner with me and Jacked In was fun, but had flaws.
Love the look and I've already backed it, one question, after you have chosen your countermeasures, are you allowed to look through the silver and gold you've chosen before creating your server?
Ricky Royal I thought so. I watched rolling solos play through earlier and though it would have been much easier if he had of looked through before getting hit with the silver countermeasure. I read through the rules on Kickstarter and it’s listed as sort out the countermeasures then lay out the server. Maybe the order should be swapped in the rule book so that you need to lay the server tiles out, then sort out the countermeasures so that way you don’t even get a chance to peek. I’m sure after a lot of games, I’ll get to know the countermeasures just by the titles.
that's good too. The game is meant to reward repeated play, so 'experienced' Renegades will be better at the game. But, setting up the network with a view to what is coming in Copper is a good way to start.
That's how I think I might play it, kind of reminds me of the shadow cards in LOTR LCG, you can plan and set up for the win and then get smacked around and have to change your strategy on the fly. I love those kinds of challenges. I think it builds replay-ability. Especially if playing solo. The more videos I see on this one, the more I want to play it. Can't wait.
Looks great! A couple of quick questions: 1) any influence from the Android Netrunner LCG? and, 2) How long have you been working on Renegade? I am, or rather was, a huge fan of Netrunner myself but I think the designers have lost their way with that title. Sometimes less is more if you know what I mean.
Thank you ! Some answers... 1. none at all; I've not played Netrunner. I do know how it plays, and I have recently bought a copy, and really hope to give it a try some time. Strangely, when I was building the prototype for Renegade play testing, I pulled some random 'cyber-punk' images from google, and it turns out some of them were from Android:Netrunner! So, now I am familiar with the rules of Netrunner, I can say there are no similarities in game-play, though the themes definitely do overlap, and indeed very much share the same space. In Renegade, though, there is no asymmetry, and is instead a solo and co-op game. 2. wow, too long. 2011 I started, so it's about 6 years... blimey !
Given your interest in solo and co-op I guess it's not too surprising you haven't played Netrunner. It really is a triumph of innovation in terms of how well it was able to incorporate competitive asymmetry, which I think you'll agree is a heck of a challenge to execute in a fun and balanced way. IMO the original tightness of design eventually (maybe inevitably) came to suffer from an increasingly bloated card pool and the errata and pages of FAQs and edge-case rulings that were necessitated by this ever-growing pool. I am 2 years into designing my own game ATM, and currently at the rough prototyping stage. So it's awfully reassuring to hear you say it took you 6 years to get to this point. If you'd like to try out some Netrunner in an online environment I'd be more than happy to show you the ropes on my Jinteki.net account. A couple more questions about Renegade: Do you consider the development work done and rule-set fixed at this point? Or are there things you are still actively tweaking and revising? If yes to the latter, what % game is still under active development?
Thanks for the invite. I may look into that ...! Renegade rules, design, development, artwork, are all 100% complete. We're proofing and sorting production specs now. So it's a done deal , just getting ready to fund to hit the printing press :)
VPG will publish once the KS campaign begins ... which is very soon!

Just got my own copy of the game Ricky! Can't wait to delve into it and play the hell out of it! I am glad I could return the favor in some capacity after all you have done for me with your videos. Thanks again :)
Hi Ed, yes, that's correct. You must have a contaminant of your colour. This Countermeasure slows your development in Copper, but hopefully gives you a boost for Silver.
Hi! You should be able to find stock online, or from victorypointgames.com . It depends which country you are in :) Renegade will not exist as 'Renegade' any more, so if you get a copy you will have a one-time thing; it will be reprinted, but we had to change the name, so when it gets reprinted it will not be called 'Renegade' any more.
Ricky, your game is fantastic.i have a question. In your video in the 13:00 minute you upgrade by using a command that does not match with the cost of the upgrade card. Is this legal because it is not written in the rule book. Thanks in advance.
Yes, I paid for a card that costs 1 RED by paying 2 RED and 1 GREEN (you are always allowed to play as many cards as you like, as long as you are covering the cost), and then you have to throw away one card from amongst those you used in payment as a swap for the one you just bought, so I threw away the one that gave me 1 GREEN. Does that make sense?
I don’t know. I must be dumb. I have tried reading your rules and I e watched the video but it’s still confusing particularly where you use terms without going further into what those terms mean in the game.
just look at the colours and icons and ignore the terminology ;) e.g. red is attacking, blue is moving, yellow is modifying and green is doing stuff remotely.

thank you ! that's awesome... these comments make me very happy!
No doubt, picking this up. Finally get to pay you back for Mage knight help ;)
Really good comment. And I totally agree. I bought Renegade after watching those Mage Knight videos.
Ricky, got the kickstarter through late last week and I've become addicted. So much variation, well done brother, you're a talented designer!
thank you! and thank you for supporting the game! best wishes, Ricky
Dude, you could stick a gold plated bin bag on kick-starter and I'd back it. I hope this is the first of many.
F&*k yeah! So excited to see you jump into designing your own game! Your videos have saved me from so much frustration.
nice one :D :D Hope you enjoy Renegade!! .. JULY 18th !

Amazing ! Which shop?? Hope you enjoy the game!
@@BoxofDelights The options for game shops are limited on the island, there are only three; this is the shop I purchased the game: La Comarca Games!
You are lucky. There is none everywhere in Canada. Ricky, is there a way to get a copy or it will be out of print forever?
Looks like a fantastic final product Ricky. Congratulations. I look forward to playing the polished version after the play testing was so enjoyable.
cheers Brad !!
This looks great. I'll be looking out for the Kickstarter!

More expansions are on the way !
I ordered this little beauty last week and I m very excited to play it. A ''traitor'' expansion would be SUPER COOL! don't you agree? :P
I do agree; I have been thinking about this for a while now..... whether it emerges as a workable expansion we shall have to wait and see.....

Love the look and I've already backed it, one question, after you have chosen your countermeasures, are you allowed to look through the silver and gold you've chosen before creating your server?
thanks ! No, you're not meant to look through the countermeasures except during the intel phase. Hope you love the game when it arrives !!

Some players like to draw the countermeasure only once they advance to the next Security Level, that way it is always a complete surprise.

Ricky, does that counter measure mean you Can't purchase from the hack shack if you don't have a contaminant of your color to put on the card?
Hi Ed, yes, that's correct. You must have a contaminant of your colour. This Countermeasure slows your development in Copper, but hopefully gives you a boost for Silver.
Similar terrain lay down rule like in Mage Knight?
not quite.. in MK you explore and reveal.
