I'm heading to UT this month but nowhere close to that much sand. I'm driving a 2019 4Runner 2WD and this is my first venture out of concrete overland.. 😂 But I'm getting myself ready just incase, I got my traction board on order and shovel and learning from videos like yours (which is very helpful) and reddit as my resource. Thanks again!
@@dslrjunkie heck yeah awesome good for you and safe travels to you! I will say airing down makes a huge difference and weight. You’ll have a blast in Utah so much fun stuff to see and thank you for the kind words🤘
I live in Montana, so my main concern is snow, not necessary sand. I think these traction boards might be more effective on snow than sand since the texture of the sand never changes. Snow can solidify which makes driving a little easier. Either way, I sadly drive a 2wd and I live in a place where winter is 7 months long, I need those boards on top of winter tires and chains. So far, for a 2wd, chains are the most effective, but they’re super inconvenient!
From the tests I’ve done I would agree traction boards are more effective in snow yes. But it’s also equally as important to dig yourself out too give your self the best chance of getting unstuck.
This video gave me anxiety. 😂 I'm a solo female with two wheel drive.. wanted these just in case.. but the stress this gave me if I got stuck. Luckily i wouldn't have this much weight
Hahaha yeah the traction boards do work for a small amount of distance. So they can work, but don’t get me wrong the traction boards do have their advantages. It was definitely a huge realization for me as well though thank you for supporting the channel👍
You said the test was going to be in 2wd not 4wd because you said "testing the boards, not the truck", but you abandoned your own test when you switched to 4wd. One reason people get stuck is because they only have a 2wd and 4wd is not an option. ...and you gave up and switched to 4wd after the second try instead of trying to diagnose and solve the problem. Good video but make another showing its real world use even when it fails we want to know.
I see what your saying about the test and appreciate your honest feedback! I honestly did want to test the truck in just using 2WD and the traction boards! But I also learned that I honestly wasn’t even able too drive my truck around Aired down in 2WD period going through any of the taller dunes. Probably due too the weight of my truck and as far as real worked this actually was as real as it could get! I legitimately didn’t have any other way of self recovery other than the boards and a shovel😂 Looking back now I do wish however I would of tested it perhaps on leveled sand as opposed too a hill for a variable! But I do caution anyone who sees this video, off-road a full sized any vehicle in sand takes time, experience, and having the right equipment and to be completely prepared! Hope this helps👍
I wouldn’t say that, they did help with bringing the truck back up on top of sand. It I would also say having 4 of them would probably be more beneficial😁
Yeah I wish I would of compared them too my action track too see if they would of performed any different, I will say getting stuck in sand is a pain the but
I wouldn’t say that, they did providing some traction to help in lifting the truck back on top of the sand! But we did learn having 4wd definitely helps!😂

Get a 4' tree strap, hook it to the link, then bury the link to use as an anchor, and then the boards won't get spat out as easily.
Heck yeah there you go that’s a great idea!!

In other words the boards are useless get yourself a 4X4 😂

Basically these boards didn’t help at all lol
