This song is a capella at its best. I love the introduction explaining why the song is being sung. A lullaby to comfort a little boy. The chorus is so strong that if I were that little boy, I would not be afraid at all. Do your thang, Ladysmith, do your thang.
Please keep this on UA-cam 4ever. It's a keeper. It's also very beautiful, soothing, comforting & peaceful. Such beautiful voices that blend in beautifully 2gether. I also LOVE the narration at the very beginning of this version of the song. 😌
I was also at that show! Thank God for their gifts. It was so beautiful it was hard to fully take in, and when I had, it was a massage for my heart. Allow this music to fill you with peace and happiness!
I was at that show in Durham also. These guys really are amazing and what they represent is truly beautiful. I think everyone in that audience felt a deep connection with these guys and their music and their culture that night. Hope I get to see them again. And how awesome is it that they won a Grammy!? I love seeing music outside of the overly produced garbage that we call popular music today win awards... gives me hope that there may still be some real music around for my son to enjoy.
no matter how many times I listen to Ladysmith black mambazo it never gets old and it makes me feel better when I listen to it. love it 100 percent Star
I love Ladysmith Black Mambazo. There are really truly inspiring. And this is really an amazing version of the lion sleeps tonight - the story at the beginning really makes it. Beautiful.
73 years old, white male, Every time I hear this I start crying. It brings back memories of evenings around the fire. This song would lull me to sleep. Deja vu?
Hey Wadza I think you are so lucky. You have such a rich culture and you do belong, your connections are so strong your culture is rich your music is so beautiful. Look around and see how much you have. In the bigger scheme of things we are all connected........Be Happy Now!
I heard this on the Bensons For Beds advert and I've spent literally hours looking for it. I have been through every version on UA-cam and completely overlooked this after hearing the intro. Second time around I listened through and what can I say? Simply beautiful.
This song is from a children's cd called Gift of the Tortoise available on I Tunes or Amazon.com by Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the Music for LIttle People label.
Oh my gosh my mom would play this casette to me when I was little! But the tape wore out and I forgot the name of it no matter how hard I tried! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this up or I never would have found it again!
Wow....That song has a lot of energy straight to my heart. I never been to Africa but, someday it's gonna happen. I built my own little jungle complete with small huts and little lions (12 kitty cats) I adopted. I wish I could use this song by Lady Smith for my video of "Little Cat Afrika" Actually, it's here in the desert of Arizona. If you like. I have a couple videos of it on Utube. I really want to meet the real people of Africa. They have a culture and music all their own.
i'm good with this really,i never appreciate anything from other continents than africa, never in my life, even if i don't live in africa but my soul and heart lying in africa.i'm proud of you guys and GOD NOW BLESS AFRICA.
Great video. We always go to see L.B.Mambazo when they come to Cornwall. Lovers of Africa appreciate them. I grew up in Tanganyika, later Tanzania. My book, 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!' is doing well on Amazon, & as an Apple iBook & Kindle eBook. Short video on youtube, with original footage in the bush 1950's & 60's, under Speak Swahili, Dammit!
I real like the sons. They do sing well. But Mr Joseph shabalala i have no words for you tjooooh 🤦♂️ this is amazing. I always know you sing well but hayi i give up. RIP khehlalami
I appreciate that you were willing to reply and work it out. I hope you understand what I am saying because WE need to change our world if it is to be changed. I was trying to spark interest when I made that statement. I should have been more specific about who I was talking about. The fact remains though that Our society is decaying and our quality of life with it. There is no bill or resolution that can pass through our leaders hands that can change that. They are the symptom.
Wow, good for you! I hope you understand that music, if it is documented, like, on an album or by a certain band, becomes part of history, so it's not that fucking surprising that you listen to an old song or an old music group here in the year 2016. I listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I'm not one of those stupid cunts that love to get attention by saying that they still listen to it in 2016. I'm sure that if you like a song, you'll fucking listen to it, even in 2016!
Still listening it in 2018! ... And every time I listen to it, this really wonderful spoken introduction always moves me... Don't know why... ehehe... Greetings from Genoa-Italy, and God bless Africa!
Just appreciate their voices and talent. Stop regurgitating political crap you've been spoon fed by either side of the political fight. I'm sure theres room on a CNN or Fox Television channel for that. Just appreciate these fine people for what they are doing.

A beautiful version...
Ladysmith Black Mombazo is #1. They have the tightest harmonies.
Came here to hear ethnic south African music and the wonderful harmony/beat and soul . I found a pop culture 1972 song. So sad
