I GOT TO MEET THEM! ❤
I was a huge fan of Paul Simon as a teenager in the late 90's and early 00's.
I grew up in a one horse town in northern California and LBM was going to perform in San Francisco.
Our Choir teacher, a retired professional vocal coach, knew some people, pulled some strings, and was able to get them to come to our high school for a last minute concert. Almost no one had ever heard of them. I- on the other hand - was first in line for tickets. I purposely got a balcony seat so I could do all the dance moves without anyone seeing me.
Afterwards, I chased after them and they gave me a photo of the group and each member autographed it for me.
Still one of my prized possessions.

As A white South African I see this as a great moment in my countries history. A white man is humbled on stage by the power of the music that kept the blacks alive in a dark time. My respect and admiration to the power.

Paul Simom caught lightening in a bottle with his African collaboration.
Even musical savant in the Motherland are still scratching their heads to this day.
This music will always have an audience. Paul Simon et al rocks.

Dear Lord... I'm 35yo and the first memory that I have with my father (who lived in Africa ((Kiffa)) for several years) was watching Black Mambazo in 1996 when he came back home with a K7 tape. I can hear him now saying "Now listen carefully son, this is music". Jesus Christ how I miss that man ❤ God bless you and I hope your old man is at least as good as mine 🤝🏻

There's no way fam! I'm 36 and my old man lived in Mauritania too. Kiffa, Nouakchott and Néma. He still in touch with some friends from Senegal. And that's the very first Ladysmith song I've ever heard back in the day. VHS tape...damn man. What a small world!

I was fortunate to see them in a small 900 seat classic turn of the century (19th) Portsmouth NH Music Hall. I volunteered to usher and got to hang around after the show. I had tears coming down my cheeks too. Their music touches someplace in me that no one has ever done. I think it is the beauty of their harmonies.

I've been fortunate enough to have seen them 6 or 7 times since I first discovered them through this concert and the Graceland album. They are proof positive that for all of the advancements made in musical instruments and electronics, the must powerful musical weapon is still the human voice.

Ah, LBM just performed tonight outside Washington DC and the sound was tremendous. Nine voices, no instruments, and their beautiful power goes through your soul. Plus their message is of God, togetherness, love, family and joy. The lead singer had his three grown sons in the group, one of whom is taking his place as front man. I felt privileged to hear them hear their famous "Homeless" and all the other songs.

Joseph brought strength into my life. As a Sierra Leonean child in the early 1980s, he thought me now to fight suppression and political bullies. He made me aware about racism. Listen to him sang his song with the black mambazo band.. made me fall inlove with South Africans. From his musics I also fall in love with lucky dube.
