Three years I’ve been trying to figure this out! We had a new roof put in and the banging started the following winter. The vents! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Never would have thought of that. Thank you and thanks for that awesome demonstration. It makes sense!

OH MY!!!! I’ve had EVERY pest control company in my city come out because I thought I had rats or mice… the sounds in this video is the exact sounds I hear. I always wondered why I only hear the sounds coming from one wall/ one area and only at night after we’ve showered and brushed our teeth!!!! This video has been given me so much comfort!!!

Thank you so much for this! I was thinking it was the sound of water dripping on the floor.

Good explanation and demo, finally makes sense to me why I only hear it in the winter. I'm thinking about opening my wall up and dealing with it b/c it is driving me nuts.

Thank you. I live in a condo and I always hear knocking. My neighbor above me uses the shower consistently, and there’s always knocking whenever they drain the tub. I assume the drain pipe within the wall is PVC so I’m no longer worried. The guest bathroom is near the front door, which makes more sense since it’s cold.

Oh my God, i thought our drain pipe was loose and it knocked due to it, such a great find. Thank you for the video

my condo has done this for the last 14 years. its annoying as hell really. happens when i do dishes in the dishwasher mostly. some knocks are pretty agrresive. my neighbors can hear it down into there apartment. maybe because im on top floor my pipes are always colder

I Saw somewhere, that you can spray foam insulation into the wall cavity where you hear the clicking and it will insulate the pvc pipe and prevent it from clicking like this in the winter :)

Does this sound go away in the summer when it's warm? This is my first winter in my apartment and this noise is driving me up the wall. It happens when I use water in the bathroom, but it will also happen intermittently on its own: one loud click/snap every half hour or so. The landlord says the pipes are copper. He'd likely have to cut open the wall to fix the issue, and I'm unsure when that will happen.

My house is 10 years old the weather is warm, 48° and I have the same sound coming from my tub. The adjacent shower is quite as are the other drains. The house is on a slab and North Texas suffers from subsidence. Could the sound be the result of subsidence?

I hear this from the drain in the bathroom all the time. Now it’s almost 10 degrees and still the same. Let’s wait for the summer.

I live in a mobile home and have pex pipes. After I run the water at my kitchen sink (mainly the hot water) there's knocking/thumping sounds coming from under my dining room floor. I've had the pressure valve changed and lowered water pressure from 100 to 63 but it did not help. It also happens sometimes even when l'm not running the water. This may not be related, but coincidentally around the same time the thumping sound started my floor boards in dining room started to make creaking/snapping sound. Do vou have any idea of what could be causing the knocking/thumping sound under my floor?

I have seen where people put dryer sheets between the pipe and the hanger. I don't know if that helps, but I suppose it acts like a slip-sheet, or slip-joint if you will.

I am a supervisor at a property loaded with wealthy ass hats and trying to tell any of them this lol all I am going to get are people crying and complaining about how they pay to much to hear this noise and mind you this is Texas you will probably hear this at most 1 to 2 months with with maybe 2 to 3 days actually cold enough.
