Lovely to see. Grew up on a farm in WA with yabbies in 12 or so dams. The sound of pulling out drop nets full of flapping yabbies will always be nostalgic.
Robbie has done cooks. Best way is boil for 10 mins and peel like he has already done. I then did a chilli linguine. Substitute yabbies for and prawn recipe.
You discovered the secret. Here in the US, if there isn't cover in the form of rocks and/or vegetation, you're wasting your time. Besides, crayfish here eat all of the 'biomass', I guess you'd call it, that grows all over the submerged vegetation. Also, in Louisiana the locals use 'melt' for bait. (that's what they call it) it is actually the spleen from slaughtered cattle. It is has tough outer membrane with a sponge-like interior. That interior looks as if a liver was grown inside the sponge. Every time the crayfish (yabbies) bite or pinch, fresh blood is released. The bait will last for well over 24 hours, if you care to fish that long. Find a local custom slaughter service and ask them to save the spleens.... And! Pay a little more attention to your sound levels, please. I have to grab the remote and drop it down about three notches every time the music comes on. Just saying....

Some good sized yabbies there. Good on you for taking only what you need, especially the one with eggs that you put back into the water. By not being greedy, you have ensured that there will be plenty to collect in the future.

@@robbiefishing Goodmorning Robbie i'm in Robinvale near Mildura so apparently this town has moved to cairns lol, we usually get the dry heat only which you can still move about, but not this time round. Its been unusually humid, however it doesnt stop us all here from yabbying and the perch are on the run here. Everyone crawls out from the struggling aircons lol and hit the water from 5pm. Im local and used to the high tempts but this year is rediculous lol everyone i know here has copped a seat belt branding lol. I'm from Goulburn mate and I've never seen shrimp that big, what's going on in the dams there bud lol great stuff mate. PS you should do a video using the shrimp as bait in the river there. Good luck bud

AWESOME VIDEO ROBBIE! Ripper yabbies! Me and my pop went fishing this arvo pop caught a 55cm cod that we released and I caught a 50cm cod that we put back they were really fat cod we would of caught more but a couple people kept swimming in front of us pop had annoyed look on his face so the lady said if u don’t want people to swim where your fishing go somewhere else we were there first but we just went back because we knew they were just tourists that didn’t know any better
Thank you so much Katherine. My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that your drawfish are very similar to out yabbies. Out crayfish (Murray crayfish) are massive. Rippa Vid Robbie I use to get Yabbies out of a private dam years ago and they were huge and always a beautiful blue colour we only took the big ones which averaged around 7 inches long crystal clear water and it was about 4 or 5 mtrs deep with a fair bit of weed and no fish in it only Yabbies and they were delish.

Very cool. Where I come from in the southeast United Staes we call them Crawfish or crawdaddies. I used to catch them as a kid in a little wire trap I made and my mom would boil them up for me.
Very nice catch mate, i'll bet that little lot made for a bloody beautiful meal? Over here in W.A. we of course get the Yabbies, but we also get Marron and there is nothing like fresh cooked Marron in a little vinegar and salt & pepper with add some hot fresh bread and you're in Heaven lol.
Hello Robbie i found the same as you when the water is high that around the grass and weeds is the best bet we also used 28 parrots over west Australia but chicken is also bloody good with the oils in the fat lasting longer then red meat. Good vid mate

We had 3500 acres over in the great southern western Australia and i remember as a kid my pop showed me this and over there, there are thousands of them but me and my little family moved to Wangaratta in Victoria a few years back so watching you get a feed of yabbies brings back good memories. this was a cool video, I normally wouldn't watch this sort of thing but you did a great job man. As someone else mentioned I would like to see the clean and cook part of it too
That's some nice looking crawdads. I would have kept the shrimp too though. At the minimum will make a good shrimp gumbo. Another thing you can do is throw them in with a nice boiled pot.
Hi robbie. I have not tried but i have with prawns. The legs where taken off and put it to a fry pan with soy sauce. Then after a short time cooking placed on cracks for a beer night. I also had a few mates in the past going to king island. The crays where cooked buy adding one teaspoon of honey per kg when cooking. It helps to make the turn a better colour and make them last after cooking if you can not eat them on the day. It what the pro do. Also i have been watching yabbie catching on youtube. Have you seen the pipe that goes over the top of the net. Filled with lot more dog food you put in the bait traps. This most make more smell and more bait. Most do not touch the trap for 2hrs. I have got my first bait net from many years back and soon getting the new nets you have. And your right. Take only for snacky not a big pig out.
Grass is a feed stock for crayfish (crawdads, yabbies, etc). Put your traps in shallow water, close to grass and where sunlight can get to the bottom to grow algae and other green stuff.

Try putting some lead sinkers on your net to give it some weight that way when you throw it it'll go further out into the pond

I found a massive brown trout head before in the water, we used it as yabbie bait, but caught no yabbies. It was such an Awesome bait to find.

That's some nice looking crawdads. I would have kept the shrimp too though. At the minimum will make a good shrimp gumbo. Another thing you can do is throw them in with a nice boiled pot.

Hi robbie. I have not tried but i have with prawns. The legs where taken off and put it to a fry pan with soy sauce. Then after a short time cooking placed on cracks for a beer night. I also had a few mates in the past going to king island. The crays where cooked buy adding one teaspoon of honey per kg when cooking. It helps to make the turn a better colour and make them last after cooking if you can not eat them on the day. It what the pro do. Also i have been watching yabbie catching on youtube. Have you seen the pipe that goes over the top of the net. Filled with lot more dog food you put in the bait traps. This most make more smell and more bait. Most do not touch the trap for 2hrs. I have got my first bait net from many years back and soon getting the new nets you have. And your right. Take only for snacky not a big pig out.

Grass is a feed stock for crayfish (crawdads, yabbies, etc). Put your traps in shallow water, close to grass and where sunlight can get to the bottom to grow algae and other green stuff.
