  • Are you looking to take your surface patterns to the next level with seamlessly repeating designs? Then you’ll be happy to learn it’s easier than ever thanks to the newest update on Procreate, the go-to design program for much of the Spoonflower artist community! Today, we’re thrilled to welcome Spoonflower artist and Skillshare instructor Jennifer Nichols to the blog to share how to create a seamless repeat using Procreate.
    In Jennifer’s tutorial she’ll be showing you how to make a seamless repeat using design elements you’ve already created. As such, this is a great resource for artists with experience working in Procreate or other design programs.

    Hello Jennifer. Thank you for this video. Every video I see about procreate the artist is right-handed and it looks like the panel for the layers is always on the right side. There are lots of left-handed artists myself included and I'm just wondering if this is a comfortable format for lefties. Before I buy an iPad and install procreate I'd like to know if it's going to work for me. Any advice?

    excellent tutorial, after having seen more than 20 videos on the subject, this is the first one that is complete, that does not omit steps, and not only that but each step or configuration is based on an explanation that I can understand.

    I tried to follow along but I couldn’t find the stamps that would help create the pattern. I was able to download the brushes you kindly gifted us but just for the life of me had no clue how to download the butterfly and the leaves you showed on the repeat pattern. Could you please make another tutorial showing us how to do it? Thank you so much 😜

    Great video. I'm new to ProCreate. So much easier than trying to do repeats in Photoshop. I find I continue to refer back to this video regularly. Thank you! I do have a question. I created a 3000 px canvas to use. The color profile defaulted to P3 which I understand to be an Apple thing. Is this okay for SpoonFlower textile designs or should I change it to one of the RGB profiles? I checked in the SpoonFlower help center but it doesn't seem to be addressed there. Thanks.

    Oh the swiping down with three fingers and copying , does it for any patter your trying to combine? To make a seamless? I learned a seamless on a another video, but I was stuck at the part I added more layers of clip art to fill in the empty spaces and i was stuck on how to combine the layers, so I can flatten and make it repeat. I think you just helped me

    Great video. Thank you. When uploading to Spoonflower: I read on their site they convert dpi to 150. When designing my pattern at 300 dpi will my elements be smaller on Spoonflower? Thanks for any help you can give.

  • @sheylavalenciaart

    Hello Jennifer and Spoonflower, Thank you for uploading this video. I found it super helpful. I only have one question, I noticed that as the layers get duplicated /cut & pasted, the color gets more and more saturated thus loosing its original color. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Thank you for your time and I look forward to a solution :D

    • @genniegidney
      @genniegidney 2 роки тому

      When you duplicate in procreate it looks more saturated because it overlays. So where your original design is the next is directly over top. When you turn off one layer or the other or move the layers you should notice the colours and opacity go back to original.

      At Spoonflower there is a guide, where you'll find this kind of information, wether you are making a pattern for fabric, wall paper, tea towels or wall art.

    How did you adjust the size of the image and rotate them without the lines degrading? Anytime I adjust the size or rotate an image, Procreate always blurs the lines of the object

    I can’t understand at all why each mug’.s group of layers was not merged together to flatten, but instead they were copy and pasted to flatten. Does anyone know what difference this made?

    My advice? Don’t bother with Spoonflower. It’s not worth it. I just placed my first order for Spoonflower fabric. I bought 4 designs. The first two were ok, not the color I expected but that was my fault for not ordering a sample. But the other two were a complete mess! The print was so blurry! It was very disappointing. For fabric that is $20 a yard I would expect better quality control. What am I supposed to do with blurry fabric? It was my first order, it will be my last.
