Mel, you are terrific at simplifying tutorials! Every time I watch your videos, I feel so relaxed that I completely forget I'm here to learn. 😂😂 Thank you very much! 🙌🏻😍🙏🏻
I guess I need someo0ne to hold my hand with the pencil and force it to the snap, drag, select, layer, remove, etc. I think I need like three semesters of beginner. I can tell if i was more familiar with procreate that your video would be very useful!
Have a look at some of my other tutorials first. this one is a more advanced way of creating patterns. There are much easier ways, which I've shown in some of my other tutorials. Check them out here: ua-cam.com/play/PLjSk2wjeDqg10T14kl7j5l74U2behGEIy.html
What a fantastic video. New to Procreate and I watched a lot of your videos before I received my new ipad. Hoping to make shipping tape with a cute floral repeating pattern. Great tutorial!
I'm getting stuck at 8:57. So I select my group then click on the selection tool and instead of getting the bar at the bottom that you have with Automatic, Freehand, Rectangle, Ellipse etc. I get a message pops up that says "Group Selected. You currently have a group selected. Would you like to open Layers?" with two options: Cancel and Open Layers. If I click either option the screen that says Group Selected disappears and that bar at the bottom does not open. Nothing happens. Not sure what I am doing wrong?
Hey Kirsten, that message normally pops up when you click on the Transform tool (the arrow). Just check that you're clicking on the Selection tool (Looks like a crocked "S").
I am having the same problem! But I am definitely clicking the Selection tool! I have redone the project twice and restarted procreate and my iPad. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Mel, What a wonderful gift to us all! The freedom of creating patterns in Procreate is endless now because of you. One thing I do want to stress with the community. Make sure when you are coloring in the corners for transformation that you go all the way to very corner edge. I made this mistake a few times which kept leaving me with a hairline. It took some thinking but I figured out what I was doing wrong! Thanks again. L
Hi, thank you very much for your excellent explanation. But I have a problem when I get to the step of making a Group. I cannot make the pattern changes. I get the warning: “Group Selected. You currently have a group selected”. What should I do?
I am having the same issue - I am not able to select the group to transform. Specifically if I click on the title of the group I get this same message, but a work around I discovered is to make sure all items in the group are highlighted and turned on and then click on one layer in the group instead.
@@imagine6076 Hola. Finally I understand half drop repeats in Procreate. Thanks Mel. I can't wait to try this. Question, which iPad do you have? I need to upgrade so I can have more layers.
Once I get to point where I’m making selections to flip around 9 minutes in.. it does not work. Nothing happens when I hit my selections. The other quadrants do not fill with the grey lines. Unsure how to fix.. I’ve rechecked several times and I’m following step by step.
So I have this stripe that prevents the pattern from working as well. If there is a mistake in the very beginning where we save and load the selection then it will be wrong from the start. Can this process with the save and load be corrected and the pattern redone?
I’m getting a differential when I manually enter the pixel width 1500 and height 1498, can this interfere with the designs and why can this be happening? (Help).. by the way, I love your instructional videos ❤
Hi Mel! Your tutorials are helping me immensely! Question. Once I create these half drop patterns and export them to photoshop on my laptop, will I be able to “Define pattern” them and they will stay as a seamless pattern in there? I keep trying and it isn’t working. Any tricks? I love having all of my patterns organized by pattern type in Patterns Window so I’m hoping I can make that work. ;) Thank you in advance!
Hi Mel! Thank you for the tutorial! I'm just wondering how do you go about fixing the repeat if there are issues? Mine didnt seem to work out properly and have thin lines on some of the edges. Just not sure how to fix this with a half drop repeat. Thanks!
ahhh..yes, this can happen to me also. It just means you didn't line it up correctly. I generally just start the process again, which is why it's important to keep the original layers before you start transforming them. It just takes a bit of practice. Also, make sure the snapping velocity and magnetics is at it's max.
I keep getting "lines" between my squares no matter what I do. At the set up, it is snapping into place and the measurements are correct so I'm not sure what else to do to correct it.
If you keep the original layers, you can go back and recolour them to start again. Or you can use the automatic selection tool to recolour. You can try doing the whole thing without merging but you do run the risk of running out of layers.
So after I fill in the gaps on my pattern and create a new layer with corner guides to select the canvas for the last transform, my group can no longer be selected!? ?😱 it only gives me the option to rename or flatten my group... has anyone run into this? So bummed and frustrated.. I've spent so many hours to run into this issue and I can't make sense of it. Lol
@priscillafernandes6515 I went back to this week's later and was able to complete the pattern. I ended up merging most of my layers to free up space. I also had to be creative when selecting an entire group. I need to do this more to gain a better workflow and help me to remember the order of operation. It's a lot to learn in one sitting. I am bummed I missed the deadline to submit my design, but I'll just take it as an opportunity to practice more lol

You are awesome tutor! I love this video. Thank you so much! It helped me a lot as a beginner. Please , made a video with different types of patterns.

okay thats great to know, thanks so much I really appreciate it!!
Set your distance and velocity to max. Also set your interpolation to nearest neighbour.
why do we flip vertically and horizontally?
I keep getting "lines" between my squares no matter what I do. At the set up, it is snapping into place and the measurements are correct so I'm not sure what else to do to correct it.
See Lisa McKinney’s comment below; this might be your problem 🤔
Mel, so if I flatten a layer then I can't change the color anymore? Correct? And what is the reason we flatten it? Thanks a bunch.
If you keep the original layers, you can go back and recolour them to start again. Or you can use the automatic selection tool to recolour. You can try doing the whole thing without merging but you do run the risk of running out of layers.
The save & load option is not available, why can this be?
Can anyone remind me what the "flatten" actually does? I'm a bit confused by that. Thank you!
Flatten is when you merge layers together to become just one layer.
what kind type the ipad ?
So after I fill in the gaps on my pattern and create a new layer with corner guides to select the canvas for the last transform, my group can no longer be selected!?
