Repairing a Daytona floor jack

- We bought this floor jack on black friday of 2019. We started to have issues on march of 2020. The floor jack starting to make a ticking noise under load and with no warranty to return it we "decided" to fix it. This floor jack is only use once a week on light work its never abuse. Our method fix the problem but only time will tell, could this be a possible recall in the future? Feel free to ask questions.
I have the orange one. It worked flawlessly for 3-4 years, but now it has the same symptoms yours did. I'll try your fix tomorrow. You've saved me a lot of time. Thank you! P.S. The fix worked perfectly. It's back to lifting like new.
I ended up buying the yellow one. I followed the directions to purge the air in the system and it has worked flawlessly. It is my first jack but to me it seemed pretty solid. I’m thankful for no issues.
Woohoo..100th like on the video. You also helped fix my jack. My brand new jack wouldn't raise. I noticed your jack handle turned 4 or 5 revolutions, whereas mine was only turning 180 degrees in either direction. After watching your video I went for broke, or broken wrists, and finally got the valve to break free. Now the handle rotates 4 or 5 revolutions in both directions, and the jack goes up and down, and holds pressure. Thank you.
So what fixed your hard to turn handle issie
Great video bro,
ima full time tech, bought the Daytona long reach 3ton ab 4 years ago and man this thing has been badass . Never had any issues till i ran it over with a dually and even with then it still works great . foot pump mechanism is stuck now tho 😅😂. but man these jacks can do work, have used and abused it ina truck repair shop and all worth the price 🙏🏽
I have the orange 3 ton low profile Daytona. Its a good jack, meets all my needs, but it leaks and has sine it was (naturally) just out of warranty. I've been through a whole bottle of that same jack fluid and it now seems to be leaking out at a greater rate than before. Probably going to be time for a new jack soon...might just disassemble it though to see where its actually leaking out.
I have an orange one that I have used occasionally for about 3 years and has worked perfectly. Just recently noticed a little puddle underneath the base of the handle area each time I jack up a vehicle. Will have to spray down with brake cleaner and see if I can locate the leak. Cheap o-rings hardened and causing the leak perhaps
Thumbs up because you put your fingers underneath the jack
Same thing happened to my Pittsburgh floor jack 3 ton. I did want you did in the video bleed it and refill with jack oil though I did overfill it but she works good now.
Great video, You did a great job.
mine leaks when its lifted pretty high up (lifted jeep) but still works. I have oil spots all over the floor and the main cylinder is where its leaking from. Harbor Freight had no interested in helping me figure out how to fix the leak.
We are in the same boat. You have two options the first option is to find replacement O - rings, hours of labor replacing it, using PPE, and finishing off by bleeding the air. The second option put it aside and get a new one. You also can find a new main cylinder but at the price they are going right now you be better of buying a new one.
@@hearttoengine9044 Ya I figured after watching the snap on video how to rebuild there's, Im not doing it. Ordered a Pro Eagle the other day and ill just sell the Daytona for a big discount.
Air in the hydraulic system.
Damn i got the gray pittsburgh and that bad boy still strong after 9 years and im a at home mechanic
The jack tilting is because of two reasons 1) you are not lifting the vehicle at a proper lift point, and the weight of the vehicle is not being properly distributed on the jack. 2) the floor is uneven. It might look even, but take a straight edge and you will be surprised what shit work most concrete flooring is.
Finally, never support a vehicle with a jack only. You're only going to kill the seals in that jack, and HF doesn't sell the seal kits to rebuild those Daytona jacks. ✌🏽
I did exactly what u said and I'm having the same issue. Could it be something else?
I'm going to assume your symptoms came back after not too long? Hopefully not, but I doubt anything short of an actual rebuild is fixing this. I did this procedure straight out of the box per the instructions, & again a yr after owning it.
I have the same symptoms as in this vid, but MUCH worse. It creaks instantly, constantly, & as loud as heavy machinery.
What was that fluid ?? I have the four tons
I did that two times but didn’t work with mine !!!
Dude, great DIY video, except the music!
But, nonetheless... Well done video! (👌🏽)
Love the music!
Do these jacks last along time or are they junk I’m thinking of buying the same one
It's difficult to say they are built to last. Every day I receive messages how to repair a certain part. I recommend to buy harbor fright tool extended warranty if you do decide to purchase it.
Had mine "green low profile" 5 years. It was $50. No complaints.
Did you follow the instructions about bleeding out the air in the jack before use...I have been thinking about buying this jack, all the people say you need to follow in the instructions about bleeding out air and adding oil..
Generally the people who run into problems with "things breaking" are the ones who don't read the instructions.
I bought the orange daytona 3ton long reach today, bled the air out, and it works beautifully.
Floor jacks are very simple machines, and require the basest of maintenance.
Mines about 5 years old. And i just ran into the first issue. My jack doesn't raise as high as it used to. It needs service done to get the pressure back. Mine was $50. I highly recommend this jack. Just don't forget jack stands.
Good job.
My Jack still doesn’t hold any weight after this process, does this mean it’s broken
After doing this process multiple times and it still not holding weight there's a good chance it's broken. If you have warranty return it.
@@hearttoengine9044 I have the same problem, would putting some grease in the jack work??
Damn it! I was just about to buy one of these. I thought these had a 3 year warranty?
When we purchase the floor jack we didn't have problems the first month. It was fine intel one day we open the garage door we seen a spill of oil. I had leftover jack oil from a different project decided to repair it. Before the repair we took it to harbor fright with our receipt for an exchange and didn't happen. We also didn't purchase extended warranty simply because the floor jack was intended for light used.
The yellow Daytona has a 3 year warrenty and is built better.
I got the green low profile which doesn't see the most frequent use but it get used often. 5 years without an issue till the other day. But it was $50 brand new so i can't really complain about it being cheap. 5 years no issues, just due for service.
Trash floor jack. Bought one. Broke after three uses. $250 wasted. Would not recommend at all, or if you do buy it, get the warranty. You'll probably use it.
This is because so many of you fools didn't do this as soon as you bought it.
What he did here is what you should have done in the beginning.
It doesn't come completely filled with oil and you have to bleed it out.
I did this exact procedure straight out of the box, & about 2 yrs later I have the same symptoms as in this video but about 200% worse.
I've redone this procedure a yr after purchase as well for preventive reasons. Didn't matter at all.
I use it often, but it's never been abused whatsoever & the loads it's lifting are not asking much of what a 3 ton jack should be handling.
This is the 2nd one I've had. The 1st one looked like it had been on the boat from China for about 5-8 yrs & was returned instantly.
