Hi, is the the gate designed to stay open on it's own, say if you were going in and out with bags of shopping, etc, or does it just swing freely?

Open it fully and it will stay open. Anything less than fully open and it will swing shut.

Hello, I think these videos on the stair gate are great strange question for u, ur stairs look the same shape as mine did u use the same stair gate at the bottom of ur stairs too? Struggling on what to get for the rounding shape of the stairs. Would this fix at the bottom too so u think? Thanks

My stairs have a second "corner" right at the bottom, it's quite a wide gap, could probably fit if you had the extension piece (comes included in the one linked in the vid description), but I've only got the one gate at the top so can't say for sure, sorry.

My 2 year niece opens it easily by sliding the yellow lock to one side - should the locking mechanism require it to be lifted as well as pulled open upon unlock?

Yes, should have to lift it as well as yellow lock. There is a small grey plastic lug sticking out the bottom of the gate that should pop into the hole along the bottom rung.

my one is same one but the gate is
not opening like it says. To open the gate i have to pull it up hard.
Could you please advise about the problem?

Possibly closed the gap too much. Loosen the fittings to widen the gap a little.
