Third base is an eternal black hole for the Mets. Of the 189 people who have played at least 1 game at third for them, 183 did it for less than 250 games. That leaves a grand total of 6 who manned the hot corner for more than a couple of seasons' worth: Robin Ventura (436 games in 3 years), Edgardo Alfonzo (515, 6), Hubie Brooks (516, 5), Wayne Garrett (711, 8), Howard Johnson (835, 8), and of course the Captain (1,586, 14). My prediction's still going strong of Wright getting barely 5% his first year, but either making it his 10th year or first time on a Veteran's committee ballot. He should try his hand at managing a few years, because historically, it's the metaphoric wind that blows you over the warning track into a home run. Schoedienst, Torre, Dusty Baker in a few years.
Commenting after the crazy 2024 season. Mark Vientos we heard out of the Captains mouth himself. He had an incredible post season. He is working on defense it will be plugged soon
Also, as a Boston fan, I can empathize with you David Wright fans, because little did we know that a dirty slide would basically end Dustin Pedroa's career too. Pedroia's last game was extremely uneventful, and in fact, most of us didn't even watch it because it was a regular weekday game in April. Wright's supposed to get his team induction this year, though I think, right? Pedroia gets his induction this year for Boston too. Hopefully both get a Cooperstown plaque one day, too, but we're all going to have to wait a while for that to happen.
Yeah the parallels between them can get uncanny. Both experienced early success with their teams, made long term committments before experiencing freak injuries that shortened their careers. You are right that Pedey didn't ever get a truly climactic send off, and I'd argue his injury felt a lot more preventable (I discovered that Wright was predisposed to Spinal Stenosis). @@OccasionalNASCARRaces idk they're both pretty borderline. If they were players just 20 years ago, I'd say no way because of longevity. Thus, we should consider the era these guys played in, where they were pushed to more intense limits and in Pedroia's case, a flat-out dirty play from players that are getting exceedingly large in size.
Ryan Howard does qualify. My only gripe is that his career took such a steep nosedive so early that its not like his production was entirely missed by the time he left Philly. Replacing Rolen at 3rd for the Phillies. It'd different, more similar to the Royals shortstops video, but the team never really had a long term answer there until Franco during the rebuild and Bohm recently.
Idk Batey doesn't inspire confidence to play 3rd, much less be the long term solution. Maybe see if the Reds will come off of one of their plethra of infielders, all of which would be a consistent force and improvement at the hot corner.
So it’s a mixture of both. Typically for the montages I put a lot of thought into them. I try to find something that is representative of the player or team. Replacing Rolen at 3rd for the Phillies. It'd different, more similar to the Royals shortstops video, but the team never really had a long term answer there until Franco during the rebuild and Bohm recently.
Die hard Braves fan, I loved David Wright, he was more Mr. Met than Mr. Met. He was their Chipper who somehow had more injury problems
Idk Batey doesn't inspire confidence to play 3rd, much less be the long term solution.
Maybe see if the Reds will come off of one of their plethra of infielders, all of which would be a consistent force and improvement at the hot corner.
what a perfect song for intro
and now there’s discussion of trading baty. it’s sad. he had so much potential but i think the yips are getting him
bro cambell ( soup )
Yeah that’s what I’m trying to figure out
Sarcasm it an art that is apparently lost on you.... 😂
Campbell got his nickname because of soup 😭😭😭
SHIT

What goes into your music choices, do you just like the song at the time or what Bc you play deepcuts
So it’s a mixture of both. Typically for the montages I put a lot of thought into them. I try to find something that is representative of the player or team. Obviously The Strokes are from New York and I felt like I couldn’t not include Ode to The Mets. As for background music, I actually go onto Bandcamp, search the city where the team I’m covering is based, and have a listening session in order to curate the soundtrack. I also obviously use a lot of video game soundtracks as well.
Thanks for the question btw. Love getting asked stuff like this.
I’m just thinking his nickname is soup because cambells soup

Babe wake up no more fielders uploaded
babe wake up, a new replacing ________ video just dropped!!
I love your work and this video. One thing, his last name is Campbell. The soup nickname is so right there I truly hope you didn’t do that 40+ hours of research

Frank the Tank brutal honesty to a birthday girl is so funny
I was looking into a new Mets jersey and I couldn’t help but buy another David Wright jersey (to be fair my first jersey in years).
With that being said, I was looking for current rostered Met jerseys, but none of them really represent what it is to be a good franchise met to me.
I think the closest to me is Alonso, but he may gone this FA. I couldn’t see myself ever getting a Lindor jersey after that stunt he pullled booing back at fans. Degrom left a few season ago too….
There really hasn’t been any player who was been able to be the next Wright for me. MAYBE Alonso…
Vientos is looking like a replacement if nothing else, hopefully he can keep developing into a successor
was the cambell thing a deadpan joke or do you not get why soup was his nickname haha
Obviously a joke
@@jamesstansbury3293 ok
Then came Mark Vientos ('24)
Ahh, the Todd Father. An amazing completely genuine person.
