This is nuts. It's got to be one of the best personal sim rigs ever made! Although I've got to imagine this would be much more immersive/fun in VR. Thanks for sharing this project with the community!
I'd love a video of you Barry going through your personal rig and why you choose everything you do, what bases/pedals/rims you race with the most etc. I'm guessing Bodnar and Wave Italy for the first 2.

Thanks, Barry. As a 5DOF owner, I've been patiently awaiting this review since you started posting pics of your build a few weeks ago. Overall, it looks like a decent upgrade. Hopefully iRacing can get on the ball with sending front TL data to the system. I'll wait a few months before upgrading ad maybe do it in the fall.

When using the test sliders, you might be able to activate the next one with the tab key so you don't have the mouse problem, at least if it follows conventions. (Shift-tab should activate the previous control, too.) Apologies if it doesn't work; I've never used the software, but I work on UIs for a living. Thanks for all the great videos!
Barry, I love your attention to detail; you’re my favourite sim racing gear reviewer by far. Your voice is ridiculous, you should do voiceover work if you don’t already. So smooth. 😁
One thing that’s pushing me towards PT actuator as against the NLR solution is the weight limit - the next level traction loss platform “only” has a 265kg as against the PTA’s 300kg. Whilst I can’t see myself ever exceeding the 265kg limit of the NLR, once I began adding up the weight of my rig I got a surprise, just the 80/20 + wheel base is 83kg, add in pedals, shifter, hand brake, button boxes etc and I’ll easily go over 100kg.
Been flirting with shao’s order forever! Do you know how he achieved the belt tensioning tower? That’s the one thing I’m awaiting before ordering the full double TL + surge kit from PT! Can’t wait can’t wait! Shao is probably tired of hearing from me!!

Hey Berry one note on the center bearing and getting to the locking pins @ 41:00 i know it's more ideal the way you have it setup for minimizing leverage forces on the center pin, but the center pin is so tall it makes me think that maybe the bearing is supposed to be on top of the plate not underneath it, then you'd have easy access to both locking pins. Also another note that has been bugging me for months now watching your motion rig reviews, is that you keep bringing up and tuning the motion rigs as if they're meant to replicate the suspension or motion of the body of the cars you drive (ie. soft/lots of suspension = lots of movement, and also tight/no suspension = no movement) But aren't motion rigs (like belt tensioners) meant to replicate the acceleration and physical experience your body undergoes in a real car? your belts don't actually get tighter when you brake, but belt tensioners are used to reproduce what your body feels when you hit the brakes in a real car. therefore the huge amount of roll you have when going around a corner isn't a product of a car's spring stiffness and anti-sway bar (body roll), but the lateral acceleration you're generating from the corner. So an F1 car would roll way more than a slow miata around the same bend because of the difference in the amount of G's the rig is trying to trick your body into experiencing. I think not having your screens mounted to the rig takes away a lot from the experience of a motion rig, because what you're looking at doesn't move with you and your brain can easily tell it's not actually feeling acceleration, it's just moving/tilting around a bit. Helps to think of the whole system with using VR (or with your eyes closed) where you can lose your reference to real life and start just thinking about what your body is feeling while driving. Yes you feel body roll and dive under braking in real life but motion rigs main focus is reproducing the acceleration felt and it does that by using gravity rather than actual acceleration. but i would love to hear your thoughts about this since i cry a little every time it comes up hahaha Thanks for the hard work, we all appreciate it.
Did those rear vertical pieces of extrusion hit the box containing the controllers? 47:55 was mighty close. May also be a worth while upgrade to change those Swivel Castors out for some heavy duty Ball Castors (Ball Transfer Units)
hello! The video was very helpful. By the way, what are the tools that appear from the 18th minute? Desperately curious and needed. Information please.
Hi Barry. In this video, are you using the sim labs P1-X and does it have the seatbelt system or are you using JCL Sim Racing with the seatbelt system.
barry, which motion unit that you have tested has the most traction lost or yaw travel? id assume dof p3 maybe or this unit? mainly focus on drifting and sliding. thanks a ton
Where do you set the Park location for the actuators? In the Thanos controller? I'm guessing you'd want the verticals to park at 0% and the sway actuators at 50%.
Hi, we cant get double traction loss with Next Level Plataform or PT-Actuators Double traction loss platform. What is the best and more realistic one?? Tnx a lot for any help!!
Hi Barry, will you keep this system, how is the long-term durability? I want to buy a motion system, With the same price, I could get a PT Actuator with TL and Surge, or a D-box 1.5'. The only concern is the long-term durability. Will the actuators start to fail and reduce the performance?
Do you have suggestions for more affordable motion sim rigs or are cheaper ones going to be a waste of money? And are cheaper ones even going to work for heavier/larger guys?
Super informative video on an impressive topic and system! But what is not really clear to me yet, how and exactly through what should you really feel and understand the Understeer. Kinematically and especially on the software side, I don't really see this implemented yet. In real life, the breaking away of the cornering forces on the front axle is responsible for understeering. I see this on the slipangel via telemetry data. To what extent the kinematics seen here, including Sway, should detect this in a comprehensible manner, a big one for me? For me, the understeer motion effect listed here is a fake and not really useful! For my understanding, the Understeer would have to be calculated from the existing telemetry data as well as the traction loss and implemented as an independent motion value.
it doesnt pitch like that but you are emulating the g force as much as possible so its not just about angle...if you were in VR this would be better experienced
Sorry Barry but what on earth did you do what you did with the Thanos controller 😅 for the sake of leaving out one screw that would have no effect on the controller you decided to put all the screws in eve though you show the cable is bent which over time could cause all sorts of issues Not your greatest idea 😅😅

SRS is already reconstructing front traction loss from existing motion data using special processing algorithms, Barry confirmed that on the video.
You have the radio voice to conquer them all
TIP: Use TAB key to move from one settings to another and keyboard left/right keys to easily make small adjustment to SRS values...

How does the PT Actuator Traction Loss and Sway compare to the NLR Traction Plus platform(you previously evaluated) ?

I’d be worried about the monitors suffering from the vibration and shock loads from the rig.
WwwwoooooWWWwwww!!! From Brazil!

Do your motion house fans squeak? Mine started to squeak pretty good after a couple months.
Pitch is not surge. True surge is the base moving forward. Look at Qubic yaw surge plate, 2DOF.
Shouldn't the monitors be mounted to the rig for better immersion?
That material is mostlikely a machined thick garolite plate.
Why didn't you just add shims to the actuator?
