    I really like the reviews, they’re second to none. But in fairness I only watch the videos to get updates on Barry’s haircut. It has evolved from a semi neglected cut, to a versatile hair asset. I really liked the poney tail in this video. I really wish Barry could include more shots of his hair in the views. Barry if you’re listening, please give us, fans of your haircut, more of what we’re here for. Thank you.

    Hey Barry,
    Could you get your hands on an SFX-100 motion platform? Would love to hear your opinion on it. Its so much cheaper than pre-built systems while offering a huge amount of travel.
    Maybe you got some spare time to build one yourself (requires lots of time and 3D printing) or you can borrow the actuators from someone willing to get them reviewed.
    Thanks, keep it up!

    Here’s my thoughts. I think if you tested things in VR you’d say a different narrative. I think the extreme degrees of motion would do well to translate not only the feel of the road/tires and dynamics but a slight sense of the g forces. In fact I think even more extreme sims like “feel three” would be desirable. I think with triple screen because it’s static in front of you ( or even if the monitors were attached to the motion rig) it doesn’t fool your mind into forgetting what’s going on and just feeling the motion. I would venture to guess that bcus you always know that the motion is happening relative to the screens it can get distracting. Maybe if you were in VR your mind would let go of that (as long as the motion trackers were moving with the rig so you don’t have too much bumping around visually within the game) and you would feel the motion rather than see it. And it would be more immersive and lifelike. you could possibly feel at least some sense of g force. Have you considered getting into VR when testing all these motion rigs?

    As an apprentice I worked on maintenance of the ultimate simulators, a Boeing 737 aircraft simulator. I always remember watching the pitch and roll of these from the outside. This was not to emulate pitch and roll, but to emulate G Forces if that direction. When you landed with full auto brake they pitched waayyy forward. When inside the graphics were staying pretty level, fooling you into thinking that this was G-Force pulling you out of your seat. Surely this is why you are seeing so much roll and pitch, but without the screens tracking the movement you lose the intended G-Force simulation??. Would VR solve this. Not a sim gamer, just intrigued by the available tech nowdays

    • @Hani_Santa

  • @Luckylalla
    @Luckylalla 4 роки тому +9

    I thought the pitch/roll was to try to simulate the G-forces to the best of a motion platforms ability and less to simulate the actual pitch and roll of the cars suspension. But I guess the body and its senses aren´t fooled that easily ;)
    Great review keep up the good work and thank you for your part in making sim racing as enjoyable as it is

    • @ΙπποκράτηςΟικονόμου
      @ΙπποκράτηςΟικονόμου 4 роки тому +1

      Actually we use pitch and roll to simulate road conditions such as uphill-downhill and turns. For suspension movements we use surge (acceleration-brakes) and sway for turning.

    • @darryIl
      @darryIl 4 роки тому +1

      I think so too, and only seems exagerated because the screens are static. If screens moved with rig perhaps a better immersion of G would be achieved.

      The most obvious difference would be heave instead of traction loss (yaw). Then there is the difference that comes with using actuators, and there's different software, and so on… Quite a number of differences, I'd bet.

    • @thisempty
      @thisempty 4 роки тому

      @@RoarMcRipHelmet yes, but that difference is for the better on the simrig or on the dof reality?

    • @RoarMcRipHelmet
      @RoarMcRipHelmet 4 роки тому +2

      @@thisempty As often is the case in these situations: It depends. If you want a system as quiet as possible, the actuators of the Simrig SR1 are the quietest. But if you have other noisy equipment (buttkickers, heavy FFB on wheel…) then that point is moot. Yaw makes it easier to detect traction loss, but if you're using VR then it may require a well-tuned motion compensation software so you don't get dizzy. I haven't tried a system with heave, so I don't know how useful it is. Many 2DOF+ systems use pitch in specific ways to compensate for heave, and maybe that's good enough, I don't know. Software: The Simrig software looks to me like it is proprietary, while DOF Reality uses SimTools which has many popular user-generated profiles. Just a guess: The Simrig software might be more plug-and-play with popular games, but if you want to try motion on more obscure games then DOF Reality is likely to be better. There is no definite answer to which is better, it depends on your requirements.

Are 2 actuators of DOFReality enough to transfer pitch and roll moves in comparison to 4 actuators of Simrig? And in other hand, do these Simrig actuators right job for traction loss and yaw comparing to one actuator dedicated for these moves of DOFReality? Both systems are in similar prices here in Europe, so I'd like to decide which one could bring better and more real filing during driving in case I would buy one. thanks!

    Thanks for this awesome review. Have been looking at this motion solution for quite a while and had some mails forth and back with the guys. But: the weight limit is way too low for people with "normal" rigs and especially for tall or heavy people. I'm 1,94 m and roguhly 95 kg with clothes + the rig I'm scratching the weight limit. Do you see any problem with that? Was looking to other solutions like PT actuators instead, because they offer more power and less limitations, but at a higher price. Do you have any comparison on the noise levels between SR1 and most recent PT actuators?

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  4 роки тому

      An actuators performance will fall off as the load it is moving increased in weight. Some are better than others. I do not have any info on the performance parameters of the SR1 actuators under load. Need to contact the guys a Simrig for that. Yes weight limits are aways something to consider depending on your own use requirements. Considering the price point of this kit, I would not expect it to have the capacities of more expensive actuator systems.

      @@alecmillea4539 what a nice coincidence to return here now and see this in the reply time although I quit sim racing years ago and I don't use this UA-cam channel.
      My opinion is: Having the feedback only from the wheel is like living in a 1 dimensional world. People fail to see this because they don't know what 3 dimensions are and they are ready to fight against them.
      But: I am sorry I can't give more advice because I don't know a lot and haven't tried a lot by myself, (although I traveled to sim racing expo in Germany once and although some of my friends own fancy motion rigs and one of them was so crazy to dedicate 50k$ for a full-motion rig once but he never ended up purchasing it. All I can say, is that motion rigs are a big world and many kinds. And you aren't likely to find your dream rig that is perfect in all aspects, like: realistic, compact, silent, runs forever, cheap...etc and this is massively due to the idea not being adapted by consumers and the sales being so niche and thus the makers not investing to push the technology forward. All I know is that my friends who own simple kinds of feedback rigs like tactile vibrations or DIY & D-box suspension rigs are super satisfied with them and that they don't mind missing the g-force aspect. One of my 6 DOF friends shocked me once when he said that "good software is more important than the actuators acceleration, strength and range", probably a useful tip from someone who had many rigs before.
      My personal experience testing motion systems? it takes me at least 5 minutes or more to trick my brain into believing that this is reality but after that I get so immersed.
      On the other hand, after trying many DD wheels, I can tell you their smoothnessss and immediacy are so lovely, and their reliability is great.
      Sorry for not having sufficient info.
      Happy cars & racing!

      @@azaralamouri5140 man thank you so much for taking the time to reply so throughly! I sincerely appreciate the info. It’s useful to know that the software is likely more important than the hardware for motion rigs from someone experienced in the field! I’ll probably end up going with a dd wheel and 4 tactile transducers before going with motion. From the research I’ve done it sounds like that will make the most impact on immersion for the cost. Hello Barry,
    thanks for your interesting video. Because I'm thinking about to buy the SR1 now I'm very insecure. The stamps from the gear unit are PET material? That sounds not really to a long lifetime. Can you see if the gear from the servo motor is made of metal? Then you have mix from PET and the Metall between the gear tooths.
    Maybe you can give an additional detail review about the servo/gear box of the SR1. Currently I'm not sure if the SR1 is a good choice. thx Mario, Germany
