Seriously considering becoming an EMT and taking the class soon. Thanks for this awesome video! Any other EMT's out there have any advice or comments about being an EMT?
HugsXOXOkissesXOXO I am glad to hear that you are interested in becoming an EMT. Being an EMT you have to go to college, you have to have a CPR card, and a drivers license . The EMT class is kinda hard you have to study about trauma, medical issues. Once you pass the EMT class you'll have to either take a "state test" or a "national test". If you take a state test you'll be able to work in your state as a licensed EMT, if you take the national test you'll be able to work nationwide as an EMT. Once you become an EMT you could become a paramedic or a firefighter or both. Good luck hope you can help out your community.
Danny Ortiz hi I'm a High School Senior and I want to become a paramedic/EMT. I am not sure what colleges to attend(I'm from San Diego California). Do you recommend actually taking a 2 year course in a University or is there another way of getting the right training?? I really want to become a Paramedic but I really need some tips before I enroll in college.
Carlos Martinez universities are expensive. For taking a EMT class could cost you $5000 maybe even more! And don't forget after you're done with the EMT class you'll have to enroll to a paramedic class, so there's an extra couple thousand dollars you'll have to pay! There's some community colleges that offer EMT and paramedic courses. I recommend you going to a community college to take those classes. You'll have to do research around your city to find the best college that can offer you the most training. Just remember study hard and you'll be able to become a paramedic soon. Best of luck to you.

paramedics do a lot more than you think, they have to be able to start IVs, analyze heart rhythms, convert weights and medication amounts to give all in their head, we don’t just transport patients. we save lives.

not sure where this is.....but are there paramedics in that area??? Where I worked on the west coast, most paramedics were on the fire engines, (2 medics, 2 EMT's per engine), and we had a private ambulance company with EMT's assisting us by taking vitals, doing CPR, and helping us while we started IV's and gave drugs. I know some parts of the country have EMT-2's.
I'll be 18 taking on my full membership status in less than a month. Which means I'll be going to more medicals and calls in general. Soon to be taking my EMT as well
Great video, covers all the aspects of the job, did a job project for college and had a link to the video. The music makes the tone of the video somber and not sad but serious.
Takes a very special kid of person to be a fire fighter or EMT, it used to drive me crazy to hear calls for things like a broken toe or finger, one time they called because they where trimming there baby's fingernails and there was a drop of blood, it the same there was a call for someone having a heart attack and they got there to late dealing with all the BS calls.
His face when the tones drop... Like very closely in that micro second, that's what it's like in EMS, and it doesn't matter how long you've done it either
I quit my job being an Emt after 6 months, it’s so shitty the amount of pay starting. For working long graveyard shifts. Its definitely not enough. Some of the saps took that shit with pride due to their hero complex.
When he was asked what his worse call ever was you could tell all kinds of bad memories floated into his head and his eyes started gittering and he had trouble thinking about it and had trouble with his words, I’m striving to be a paramedic firefighter, I know the worst question to be asked is what your worst call is, most guys don’t want to think about it and have trouble talking about that stuff, that’s probably why he just gave a broad answer, some stuff you’d rather just forget. They save a lot on the back hahah just hope your guys are HD (bariatric) rated. our department just replaced all our 911 rigs with the Styker Power-LOAD lift assist and i think ours are rated to 1000lbs lifting than the standard 700lb.
I'm getting my ged in new Mexico and I really want this career. I already feel like I'm obligated to save others and help. Lately been depressed because I have to wait until January to get my GED I hope to God I get this career
Do you think the US will go the way of Australia, NZ, UK (and other countries) and replace EMTs with university trained paramedics? Here in Australia we've gone from the "ambulance drivers" of the 1970s, to getting an associate diploma (80s), diploma (90s) and so on. Now the only way to drive an ambulance as a career is to graduate as a paramedic with a Batchelor of Health Science (and then hope you've got what it takes to be accepted/employed by one of the state run ambulance services).
I doubt it. Coming from my point of view as a paramedic that works in both urban and rural areas there is a job for everyone on a call. In EMS in the USA we have our lowest trained providers that are first responders, they can gather a basic assessment and vitals also do CPR and AED. A EMT can provide basic life support such as splinting, basic airway (king airway) and bleeding control plus the vitals and stuff like that. They are also able to transport. As a paramedic i am able to start iv's, use narcotics and other medications for pain control/sedation. and RSI ( rapid sequence induction/intubation) which i sedate and paralyze the patient to place an ETT and control the airway. were also trained to analyze rhythms and 12-leads. And several other things depending on the state of which you work and what your medial director allows. Our medical director is very easy going were i am and lets us do what we need to do in order to save a life as long as we can justify it.
Coover highly doubt it especially considering how many volunteer stations there are. It would kill it in this country making it difficult for people like me to become an EMT, and eventually medic. I'm not going to college for the very reason of me getting my EMT after my last couple weeks left of highschool. Requiring college for more and more positions isn't good for the economy as a whole. Only the government in itself.
Yes, same in Austria, our paramedics aren't so well trained as in the US or Australia. So some calls we (paramedics) can handle with our knowledge, but in some cases we responde together with the emergency physicians -so the dispatcher send out an ambulane and a emergency doctor' car or helicopter
I want to be a paramedic so bad. And I don't know what hit me but when that bell rung I started crying. Don't ask me why I don't know why. Maybe it's because I want this so bad.
OH MY GOLDEN ONE I MISS YOU EVERYDAY YOU WERE THE SWEETEST GOLDEN EMT I OWNED AND LOVED YOU BATTLED LAEUKEMIA I WANTED TO GIVE YOU THE BEST CHANCE TO LIVE BUT YOU LOST YOUR LIFE. I WAIT FOR YOU TO COME HOME TO ME SO I CAN SEE THOSE BEAUTIFUL EMT 👀 THAT'S WHAT I NOTICED ABOUT YOU I MUST GO FOR NOW
I wanna be a paramedic but my parents don't really support my desccion. They are worried what I'll do if I can't find a job and want me to go into a field with more job stability.
There's plenty of job stablity, people always need help. And the bigger the city the more stability you have too. I'd say do it anyway. If you feel a strong pull towards being a paramedic, than do that. Do what you think you'll like most. You're parents are trying to look out for you, but in this case, they're just wrong, there definitely is job stablity in emergency services.
Am starting my EMT next week June,5,2018 tomorrow is orientation day am a little nervous because I haven’t been in school for a little while wish me luck. 😁
If you don't have publicly funded (IE County EMS / Fire) I wouldn't make your career goal being a medic. I'm set to get my Paramedic in the Fall, but the pay and hours make life hard. My gf resents my overtime, but we can't even afford to go to Disneyland. If we get married and have kids? even more expenses. The private ambulance life won't give you a career, and that's coming from a guy that couldn't imagine doing anything else in life.
I want to become an EMT, I know they don't get paid a lot but I still want to be one. I have a question though. how many different shifts are there and do the people that work at night get paid more?
Katelin ussery Depends on where you work, but a lot of agencies here in the US work 24 hours on, then 48 off. So no, you don't get paid more for working nights or holidays. It's just part of the job. That could be different with private agencies; I've only ever worked 911 for city/county systems.
Katelin ussery I am an EMT and I work two 24hr shifts a week plus one 12hr shift every other week, so 54hrs/week average. My schedule is 24on/24off/24on/96off. Couldn't ask for a better schedule.
Katelin is here it really does depend on where you live and what kind of service you join. Private companies may pay more but working with a goverment run fire station may have better benifits in the long run such as a pension. The best way for an emt to up their salary is to increase their certification by moving up to advanced emt or paramedic, in most cases the salary doubles from basic to medic. For example, emt-b salary in my area is about 24k starting. While montgomery county starts medics at 70k
You run on the ambulance but could run on an engine on the same shift? That’s what it sounds like! Your county needs a paramedic rescue squad so they do on fire calls and fight but do main medical if needed on that call! If that is true what I said above!

Start emt classes tomorrow!!
Andrew good luck “!!
Andrew how’s it been?
Awesome video!
Do i see a stryker hydro lift assist in the back? hahah
Haha yes you do
They save a lot on the back hahah just hope your guys are HD (bariatric) rated. our department just replaced all our 911 rigs with the Styker Power-LOAD lift assist and i think ours are rated to 1000lbs lifting than the standard 700lb.
Actually in many states in Europe they still send the emergency doctors on the field... it is interesting how long this system will work ;)
Do they use doctors because they don't have enough paramedics to cover workload, or for some other reason?
I WAIT FOR YOU TO COME HOME TO ME SO I CAN SEE THOSE BEAUTIFUL EMT 👀 THAT'S WHAT I NOTICED ABOUT YOU I MUST GO FOR NOW
Why is the music so sad omg
I wanna be a paramedic but my parents don't really support my desccion. They are worried what I'll do if I can't find a job and want me to go into a field with more job stability.
There's plenty of job stablity, people always need help. And the bigger the city the more stability you have too. I'd say do it anyway. If you feel a strong pull towards being a paramedic, than do that. Do what you think you'll like most. You're parents are trying to look out for you, but in this case, they're just wrong, there definitely is job stablity in emergency services.
Very hard job but I injoy this time
I saw this rig at Paoli Hospital the other day and asked my partner why they get to have two numbers 56/54, he didnt know.
We have 2 stations. One is the main station and one is a sub-station because we have such a large coverage area.
we have 48 hours a week in germany :(
Is this for every paramedic from Canada to America or this specific one like the beds weight room & stuff
Am starting my EMT next week June,5,2018 tomorrow is orientation day am a little nervous because I haven’t been in school for a little while wish me luck. 😁
patty P I don't start until January and I'm learning as much as I can lol
So it has been over a year. How did your luck work out?
So it has been over a year now. How did your luck work out?
Please provide this kind of study format in every state
How did you get the inside of the ambulance?
0:58 is that a baton under the screen?
I’m going to be ems when I’m older
There salaries should be more these people save lives
HPosto I REALLY hope my schedule is like that.
While montgomery county starts medics at 70k
n my country school students can already be a paramedic, is it in america also like that?
I want to be EMT-PARAMEDIC
great vid
wealthy department
Is the pay, really low?
Andre there is 3 stages. EMT , EMT ADVANCED and then Paramedic. Like anything else it takes time to learn the trade.
Low pay. Transfers. Bullshit calls. Drama. Yeah...sign me up. Don't do it!
Were you with Montgomery fire and rescue too>
No, I was not.
yeah MD!
You run on the ambulance but could run on an engine on the same shift? That’s what it sounds like! Your county needs a paramedic rescue squad so they do on fire calls and fight but do main medical if needed on that call! If that is true what I said above!
