Our guest today, Major General G. D. Bakshi, is a retired Indian Army officer. He served in Jammu & Kashmir Rifles. He subsequently commanded the Romeo Force (Part of elite Rashtriya Rifles) during intensive counter-insurgency operations in the Rajouri-Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir and succeeded in suppressing the armed militancy in this area. He served in the Army from 1971 - 2008. He has been awarded several medals for his distinguished service in the Indian Army.
Author of several well-researched books on military strategy, he is best known for his forceful articulation of the national interest on prime time news on several channels. His new book "The Quantum Book of Soma: Reinterpreting the Wisdom of the Vedas" has been appreciated immensely and includes over 50 years of research and insight.
On the 50th anniversary of the Indo- Pak War or 1971, we discuss the bravery of Indian soldiers during that war and how it was India's GREATEST victory in the last 2000 years. To learn more about it, watch this clip.

Sad fact :Bangladeshi history doesn’t focus the contribution of india so much on the 1971
That's not the case brother. We do acknowledge the role of India but it hurts us when India calls it Indo-Pak war. Indian army actively took part during December 1971 . Yes of course Indian army provided Mukti Bahini with necessary training and ammunition but the it was Mukti bahini who fought the war for 9 months. India's contribution undoubtedly is very big and on December 1971 Indian army and Mukti Bahini together destroyed the tyrant Pakistani Army. Here in Bangladesh we acknowledge India's contribution as well as Russia's veto against the seveth fleet. It's just that when it is stated as an India Pakistan war it hurts our sentiment cause the general people of Bangladesh sacrificed and fought for 9 months. Indian army gave the final blow but the main war was fought by every single Bangladeshi.

1) It gave confidence to the Indian Armed Forces that they are strong.
2) It completely washed the Black mark of 1962 defeat.
3) Put India back on the World Map.
4) Broke Pakistan's back.
5) India stood alone and yet emerged Tall in the end.
India in 1965:
-Failed to capture kashmir back
-Lost rajouri to Pak troops
-Failed to occupy Lahore
-Failed to occupy sialkot
-Lost khem karan to Pakistani Troops
-Navy couldn't leave bombay harbor to participate resulting in Dwarka bombin
-Lost most number of Aircrafts
-Lost 3 airbases due to bombings
