Dank has that skill of being able to take completely indifferent people, and teach them how to love something. I never cared about drums until watching this channel! And I'm able to say now that the Bosphorus is an absolute treasure, I love the way it sounds!
Don't forget headphones. I got headphones because of him and now I'm doing drumming lessons...all that is left is getting a snake and learning the aussie accent lol
Not gonna lie to you m8, that bosphorous is probably my favorite sounding cymbal i have ever heard for jazzy pieces, i totally need to hear some songs with it, it fuckin primo shit
As someone who used to be really into cymbals (I still am I just can't afford them ☹️), that is a really cool cymbal. You described it great. I really enjoy huge thin trash can lid sounding cymbals and this is like that but tighter. Really cool!
I can't think of a funny comment after watching this, so just thanks for making some of the best content on the internet! Keep up the good work mate, and tell Frank to get a job.
All of my cymbals are from the 40s. I saw them on display in a music shop during my last school field trip and asked to hit them once and fell in love. I probably paid too much, but they are easily the best sounding I've ever owned
@@JustNoAmbition as I learned when an ear infection took the high end out of my left ear (and attenuated the rest) when I was 6. Stereo is weird, if I turn up the left by about 5dB it sounds balanced but the top end is still lacking. However luckily my natural hearing was super sensitive so my left ear is still just barely in the normal range (but barely), so it’s not a functional impairment for most things. Just is weird for music.
I just want to say the cut between the Dark Ride and Bosphorus Ride was perfect! Blink and you miss it. Great editing, and as usual, awesome stuff I had no idea existed! I also enjoy that the couch feels like it has a patina of its own

Dude, your fast swing is ridiculous. Holy cow sometimes I forget you were a jazz drummer and it's times when you dish out the jazz chops that makes me go wow.
You can use oxidizers to jump start the process. They are chemicals you can buy but apparently miracle grow can oxidize copper quite quickly, ammonia also works.
Tuned in just now since I couldn't sleep and could only sleep 3 hours last night and here I am seeing a new upload RIGHT after it was posted. It was nearly 6 am over here and nearly 10 am where you're at. Pretty sweet to be early kinda lol.
I got the new Gen 2 AirPod Pros recently, coming from OG, release day AirPods. Your kick has the most amazing *WHOP* to it now. These things are rad, especially the noise cancelling. Sorry, crossing the Dank streams :p
That Bosphorus reminds me of my Byzance Symmetry ride with how it just opens up on a normal body hit with the stick tip. Sounds like a fantastic cymbal to me!
I don't know what it is but I find that thing you do with the bell of the cymbal during the sound comparisons "ting ta ta ting ta ta ting ta ta ting" very soothing.
I would love to see Wade react to other drummers and the like on here. I want to see a drummer react to stuff like Nyango Star and Buckets the Drummer. Think it would be pretty interesting
Hey Danky me old chum, I watched a 'Daily Dose Of Internet' video (a 5 minute short compilation video of clips from around the web) & found Tom Howarth - a skilled drummer (heard of him?/Seen his videos?) where he drums away, but then throws in a trick with his sticks on a high hat (or whatever) while STILL maintaining the drum beat! It's great and hypnotising to watch such skill! Anyway, Happy New Year fella, hope this one is a great one for ya! 👍 Keep doing those wonderful and funny videos you do, they're always ace! 👌 😎🇬🇧
Oh, it's super easy to age copper based things. When they restored part of the Liberty Lady, they had to 'fix up' those areas and they aged it in a few weeks. None would be the wiser if they weren't shown. Nordic embassies in Berlin have copper cladding, roofs etc. Here's a few: a. Sawdust with white vinegar and salt, you can also substitute the salt and sawdust with potato chips. The saltier the brand, the better. So 'extra salty chips' are poifect. This one's a combo, both green and blue hues can pop, the more you let the paste sit, the darker the shades are. Putting more paste or less paste can create various effects. Throwing it on or brushing it on also has a distinct trace. For example, a few years ago i had to complete a set of brass and copper door handles. The rest had patina on them, and that patina was the natural wash of darker and lighter hues and worse, patterns. I first pasted my right hand with the mix, and grabbed the handle, let that sit for two hours before rinsing it off. Then i threw an even coat all over, after i buffed it with a micro fiber cloth, the same kind of patterns found on the other handles were on this, complete with where your knuckles touch the shield and all that. Of these, my favorite method. b. Freshly boiled eggs, you crush them (or take them through a blender) and you use that paste to obtain brown stains. Minutes to hours, you let it sit there, the more you let it sit, the more on the brown scale it goes. The brown is more akin to red ochre. c. Organically made ammonia from a certain liquid that Bear Grills is a lover of. Yep, you basically ... do the deed on it and then throw salt on top. The salt needs to be powdered using a blender. It needs to sit inside a container, sealed. The vapors need to play. The biggest issues with most of these (and other methods) is that they're fragile and will come off if you're not sealing them. That's the kicker. For you, that'd change the sound considerably.
Will you do a video about the cymballs you actually used during your gig days? Not just ones that you think sound great but ones that you deemed appropriate to use for what was your job. I'm very curious to see whether the only criteria was if you liked the sound and found it fitting for whatever you were playing or if other factors came into play, like getting something from a reputable brand so you knew it would stand the test of time
I generally like my cymbals to be all shiny and new looking but I have one that brand new looks like it was buried in the ground for a couple of months and left to get tarnished: Meinl Vintage Pure 22" light ride but that is part of the appeal of it..nice smooth sound and I don't have to worry about getting every finger mark off of it.
Darren King had a Zildjian 20 inch Armand ride when they were recording the 2nd Mutemath album. That cymbal was dirty as heck but it sounded BEAUTIFUL as a crash cymbal.

Dank playing a metal breakdown beat makes me unreasonably happy.
I'm waiting for the whole drum set to get their own vids. Then I can be "conversationally intelligent" in the drums

As a non drummer (bassist) this guy makes anyone enthusiastic about drumming!! ❤
Bass and percussion go hand in hand, and I say this as a fellow bassist. If music is a house, bass is the foundation and percussion is the frame.
This channel has made me keep a keen eye on kits at shows, looking for interesting cymbals. So far I’ve been disappointed, but some day I’ll see something fun 🤞🏼
the sound quality of your drum videos really picked up once you built the drum dungeon!
